Stationed
Katara found a taco truck outside a park and ordered a small warm meal for the night, she was to paranoid to eat during the day but she found a park bench close to the city so there was more light posts. She couldn't sleep in complete darkness outside, not alone, not after the Oscar incident.
She sat on the bench with her legs cris crossed and her bag in her lap, hood up while he ate one of the four tacos she purchased.
Who knew being out on the streets was so exhausting yet boring at the same time. She just kept walking all day, not talking to anyone, kept moving forward.
She yawned a little and drank some of the water she had left. Her headache didn't really go away either.
"Hey,"
Katara gasped spinning around seeing that short brunette boy from earlier as he had a blue baseball cap on now with a orange hoodie.
"Oh, hey?" Katara was shocked to see him again and he sat on the bench with her. He seemed so positive all the time.
"Mind if I keep you company? Kind of looking lonely," the boy leaned back on the bench as she shrugged not caring.
"Taco?" Katara offered him one of hers.
"Oh that's not- it's yours, you need it more than I do," he shook his head. "I'm also vegetarian,"
"I got two grilled avocado tacos and two chicken ones, I hate eating alone," Katara grabbed a different taco and handed it to him.
"Thanks!" He beamed brightly excited for warm food.
"I never caught your name," Katara took a bite of her taco.
"It's Aang, told you I'd give it to you next time," he teased as he inhaled the taco like he was starving. He probably was.
"And you?" He wiped his face with the back of his sleeve.
"Kat," she smiled. She didn't want to give out her full name, she didn't want this to be who Katara was but it could be who kat is.
"Pretty, nice to officially meet you kat," Aang held out his hand.
"My pleasure Aang," she shook it with a giggle.
"So are You alone out here too?" Katara asked finishing her first taco and grabbed the second chicken one.
"Nah my friends are coming, You shouldn't be alone at night," Aang told her as she handed him the second avocado taco.
"Suki! Ty!" Aang called over waving at three teens that seemed around his and Kataras ages.
"I found that new girl again," he smiled as two girls and a boy walked over.
Kataras eyes widen seeing a taller teen behind the girls with shaggy black hair and golden eyes. She gasped softly seeing the scar covering his eye and almost half his face. She didn't see that last time, but she knew it was him.
"This is my new friend kat, she shared her tacos with me," Aang held up his taco happily as the red head and brunette girls walked over looking at Katara.
"Kat this ty, Suki, and Lee," Aang motioned to each of them.
Katara looked at lee as he wasn't paying much attention. Did he recognize her? Was it the right person?
"Hi kat, Aang told us the great escape against Oscar," Ty gasped running up to her wide grey eyes.
"Oh yea, he's something," Katara laughed awkwardly.
"He'll leave You alone if your with someone, he's a coward," the red head, Suki, leaned against the bench with a small smile.
"Lee don't be anti social, say hi," Suki snapped over at the other boy.
"Did he go for your bag?" Lee looked down at Katara with no emotion in his voice. She nodded.
"Figures, he thinks there's treasure in there," he rolled his eyes.
"You'll be fine though," Lee looked at her again.
"Thanks," she smiled back.
"So Aang said your a run away, who you running from?" Ty flipped her long braid over her shoulder with an excited smile. She loved meeting new people.
"Shit life, not old enough to buy an apartment, just trying to get away from it all," Katara said looking down at her lap to keep it brief.
"Understandable, I'm only fifteen so I have a long ways to go," Ty nodded.
"I'm sixteen," she pursed her lips.
"I'm only fourteen, but Suki and lee are seventeen," Aang explained and Kataras face softened a little at that. They were all so young still.
"Do you need a place to stay?" Ty asked worried connecting the dots.
"Oi," Lee's head snapped towards her as Suki made a face not so sure.
"What? She's a young girl on the streets!" Ty threw her hands up in defense.
"She's right, that's not safe," Suki sighed looking at lee. Aang nodded enthusiastically with blush staining his cheeks.
"Whatever," Lee shrugged and walked away.
"Does he not.. I'm sorry but I'm okay out here it's not so bad," Katara stood up from the bench worried.
"We have a place, you shared your tacos with me, I owe you," Aang grabbed her arm with a smile to lead her back to his home. Suki and Ty looked at each other and giggled a little at how cute aangs obvious crush was.
"Lee is gonna give us an ear full later," Suki smirked at ty while they walked together.
"It won't be bad, you know I'm right," Ty Lee snickered bumping against her.
-
"And not only that You just offered up our place it's that you didn't ask, we dont have that much space in the first place Ty Lee," Lee rambled as ty Lee and Suki were stuck listening to his lecture sitting on a mattress on the floor in the corner of an abandoned train station on the edge of the city.
Aang was busy showing Katara the building.
"She's a young girl, you know the crazy's and pervs that are out at night," ty Lee rolled her eyes and he glared at her.
"Not our problem," he scoffed.
"Did you lose your morals?" The brunette whined as Lee grabbed his glasses and looked at them unamused.
"Aw don't use glasses puns, don't do it man," Ty Lee groaned as Suki was amused.
"I've seen enough of this shit," he took off his glasses and Ty Lee flopped into the mattress and screamed in frustration. "She's gone by the end of the week,"
"Wait a week?" Suki asked surprised.
"Don't make me regret it," he nodded putting his glasses back on for real.
"It's not us You should be warning, love dove kid got a crush on that kat girl," Suki smirked at him.
"I noticed," lee grabbed the news paper to read on his own mattress.
"I think it's cute, he's such a cute kid like a little brother," Ty lee laid on her stomach with a smile.
"He shouldn't get attached," Lee sat on the old dirty mattress and pressed his back against the stone wall.
There was three mattresses where Lee and Aang got their own mattresses. Suki and ty shared but there were nights when Ty Lee left for the night and sometimes the day, they didn't question it much thinking she just was going to another homeless shelter or so.
"And that's my bed," Aang pointed at his corner with a Mandela tapestry next to his bed and had a few blankets covering the bed and two pillows.
"So You all live here?" Katara asked softly seeing everyone had their own corner in the abandoned station.
"I'm part time," Ty Lee smiled as Suki had a large green comforter on her bed with one dark green pillow and one blue one. And a pink blanket in the corner that was ty lees.
Lee had the most pillows, which was about five, and actually seemed to have new black comforter and black pillow cases and even sheets.
"How come you got new stuff?" Katara teased as Aang let her sit on his mattress while everyone was talking.
"I stole it," he said flatly.
"Really?" Her eyes widen.
"Not the pillow cases, my old stuff got burned," Lee kicked off his shoes before putting his feet on the bed to keep reading.
"Burned?" She was surprised to hear that.
"Our last place had a fire, Lee lost a lot of his stuff," Aang explained. "We found these mattresses last Black Friday, from three different stores,"
"You want to keep her Aang she's staying by you, I'm not sharing," Lee pushed his glasses up.
