Wish I May | Random Oneshot
[Note: This does not affect the plot of any stories of mine. Probably.]
February 4th
"If you were going to wish for anything, what would it be?"
A sigh escaped my lips at the thought, as I look down at the pendant in my hands. Its amber surface glimmered in the moonlight, a slight luster in its sheen.
"Maybe... I shouldn't have lied to him that day, after all." I whisper to myself, clenching my hand into a fist as the dewdrop pendant dropped back onto my shirt. I could feel the tears pricking at my eyes despite my reluctance to let them fall; could hear the rustling of the leaves right outside my window.
I wait for the familiar burn in my chest as I finally let them fall, streaming down my cheeks. But it never came.
"Maybe... He would still be alive."

Approximately three months before; November 17th
"Where is he?"
Tsubaki remained silent, unable to look me in the eye.
I clutch at the hospital gown I wore, right above where they operated on me mere hours before.
"Answer me!"
She looked up at me, tears streaming freely down her face.
"He's gone."

Present
"Aoi, are you sure about this..?"
I nod tersely, slinging the guitar case over my shoulder as I walk down the front steps of my home, Tsubaki lingering by the doorway. I could feel the tension in the air as I walked away.
She didn't try to follow.
My feet felt sore as I silently headed towards the building opposite; an edifice of worn red brick with a pristine signboard dangling from the front: Sibyl Law Offices. A wry smile curled my lips at the sight. This used to be headquarters for the organization, but now...
I enter the building, padding through the aged floorboards towards the elevator at the end of the hall. It creeps open, an irritating creaking sound emitting from its rusted hinges.
Maybe.. I could just forget about it all.
A clear sound rang as the elevator shuddered to a stop upon the highest level, the doors sliding open. I take a step forwards, unable to hesitate as I again walk down the hallway towards the staircase leading up to the roof.
There wasn't a chance that I ever would be able to forget.
The wind greets me as I exit the musty atmosphere of the abandoned building; a temporary release to all the pain I've built up over the course of a few months. I sling the case off my back, unzipping it to reveal an old acoustic guitar.
I take a seat, cradling the instrument up to my chest as I settle my calloused fingertips against its designated positions upon the guitar's frets. And with that, I start strumming.
"Wish that I could say these words tonight;
Wish I have the courage, wish I might," I pause, unable to stop the tears from flowing.
"Have the chance to show you, speak what's on my mind;
While you're right next to me, I've loved you from the start."
I'm sorry I never told you. I'm sorry.
"Wish that I could walk you down the road,
Share each moment, have my hand to hold.
My imagination's, beginning to unfold;
Every wish is granted, every dream and hope." What a lie, I thought to myself as I stare up at the stars.
"Wish I may, wish I might find a way to your heart
Wish that I'll be the sun to warm you all through your life.
Wish you may feel my love that is hidden in the stars;
Wish I may, wish I might be the one,
"Maybe now I'm ready to be found,
That I'll be a part of who you are.
A promise of forever, never break your heart,
Always there to listen, always by your side.
"Wish I may, wish I might find a way to your heart,
Wish that I'll be the sun to warm you all through your life.
Wish you may feel my love that is hidden in the stars,
Wish I may, wish I might be the one.
"Wish you may feel my love that is hidden in the stars,
Wish I may, wish I might be the one;
Wish I may, wish I might be the one."
I stop singing, stubbornly wiping away my tears with the sleeve of my shirt.
"Maybe.. Wishes just don't come true." I look down at the pendant dangling from the necklace I wore. "Same with promises.
"Isn't that right, Basil?"
