The door opens and the quiet guy walked into the threshold. He walked up to the table that we were all standing by and placed two grocery bags right on it. I looked at the stuff inside before I looked at him. "Thanks mate." "No problem," he says with an emotionless expression before he turned, walking out of the room. "Alright, we have juice, pads, carrots, and salami. This will be used while we are on our search tomorrow. We need as much as we can get for how long we will be out there," Ed told everyone and I nodded. "Do you think it's safe to bring that guy with us though?" Shiro asks.
I looked at her and tilted my head. "Why shouldn't we? Nobody will ever last on their own. Us in pairs could last sure, but only for a limited time. He is also a pretty nice fighter against those things out there. We need him just like how we need everyone else in this room. This is a serious no man left behind situation, and we are not leaving him behind," I said and Ed added in, "I don't know about you, but that guy has saved my ass almost 5 times. Im not going to just sitch him like an old toy."
"Fine...but when do you think that he's going to open up to us?" "That isn't up to us. It's up to him if he wants to talk to us or not. We don't know what he went through, but something tells me that it was something rather traumatic since he is so quiet and emotionless," Ed said and we took a glance at the door to see his back against it. "He is going to get through it though. He's strong like that," I said and everyone looked at me.
"How do you know that?" "I don't know. I just know that there will be a time where he is able to tell his story and he will be able to move on from that dark point in his life." Ed looked at me funny, but I didn't care. I walked to the door, tapper on it, watched him move off to the side, and stepped into the same room as him. "I really don't need to be defended like you did in there..." "Yeah you do. I don't stand for people who talk shit anyways or people who just say dumb shit," I tell him and lean on a wall.
"So we are leaving in the morning?" He asks and I nod my head. "It won't take long to find survivors, but when we do, then I'll tell you." "Tell us what?" I asked and ll he did was look at me then down at his hand. "My story," he said before walking away from me. "Can't wait to hear it, but know this..." He stops and turns to look at me.
"No matter what your story is or no matter what you are going through, you can always come to me. I will always be there for you, and we are in this together, okay mate?" I asked and he looked at me before giving me a small smile while nodding his head. I nodded back at him before we both went to our respective rooms.
I walked into a room that I shared with my boyfriend and I just looked out of the small room that we had in there.
Where they are staying
I started to get ready for bed and when I was in my sleeping bag, I heard the door open. I turned and saw Ed walking in. "Hey...what was all of that back there?" He asked. I shrugged, "I don't like it when people attack someone who obviously doesn't deserve it. He went through something tragic and he's just not ready to share it. He told me that if we do find survivors, then he will tell us who he is and how he got here."
"Really?" "Would I lie to you love?" I asked and he sighed before shaking his head. He got into the sleeping bag right next me, but he cuddled up to me as I opened an arm to him. "Are you ready to go on another exploration tomorrow?" I asked and he nodded his head. "Promise to make it?" He asked as he lifted a pinky to me. I chuckled and hooked my pinky with his. "Promise," I said.
"Good. Now let's take a nap. We are going to need for the duration of our walk tomorrow." We both got comfortable and the house fell into a little bit of silence before the sound of the guy shooting his gun started to go off. That kid will never get any sleep, will he?
The next day
I stretched and looked to the right of me and looked at Ed as he groaned and rubbed his eyes. He looked up at me, then at the small window. "Morning already?" He asked as he tried to cuddle into me even more. I chuckled and nodded my head. "Yes baby. Now we need to pack and start looking for survivors," I said and he groaned. "5 more minutes," he said and tried to get me to lay back down.
"Niall! Ed! The quiet guy is waiting outside for us!" Tristan announced and I sighed. "Babe, we need t-" "Alright, fine. You owe me cuddles later though," he said as he sat up. I rolled my eyes fondly before kissing his cheek and standing up. We packed our thinks fast before we rushed down the stairs. Everyone www still here. Good. Harry had his gun out and he was looking around the area.
"Are we ready to go guys?" "Yeah. I say that we go right," Shiro says as he was holding hands with Becky. "No, left is the right way to go," Mark says and I sighed. "Hey mate," I said to the tall lad. He looked at me. "Where do you think we should head off?" I asked and he looked around before he just started walking. "Follow the leader," I said and was right on his tail. Ed was right next to me and the two of us looked around, making sure that there were no zombies around.
"When the heck did we start trusting the silent one?" Mark asked. "Ever since we found a pile of zombies surrounding him. This dude kicks ass, and I wouldn't mind if he kicked yours," I said and Ed slapped me in the shoulder. The lad ahead of us chuckled a little and just kept quiet. Okay...slowly getting him to open up to us...great! "Why are we heading straight anyways?" Becky asked.
"The store is this way." "Okay and?" "While I was on my errand for you guys, I bumped into a couple of people." "Okay what the fuck man?! You bumped into survivors, a-" "Enough." Ed commanded and Mark silenced himself. "The lad is talking to us a little and that's progress itself. It is more than likely because of him trusting us and knowing that we are going to be together for a while. He's not going to be so open to fresh new people. Now you either shut up and shoot the undead, or you can turn right around and go whatever route you want to go," he said as we walked through the forest.
I looked at my boyfriend and he saw the serious look on his face as he was looking around our surroundings. "I don't like people complaining. Just be happy that we have a route that can bring us to at least one person who's alive and not crawling to eat our bodies."
I can't express as to how impressed I am with him. He knew and saw that this guy means well and that he is here to stay alive and help out as much as he can. This guy is just as important than every single one of us. He turned to the right and I looked to see what he was seeing. There was something crawling and as if on instinct, he shot at it. We jumped a little at his boldness.
He walked over to the thing that he shot and when he saw what it was, he took his machete and it and he soon tossed the head of a zombie far away. "No need for conversations. These things are attracted to sound and they will go far to reach it." We nodded and he continued to lead the way.
5 hours later
"Can we take a break or rest for the night? The store had no one, and we have been walking for so long..." Shiro asked and I looked at the brown haired make. He shrugged and kicked a door open to some house. "It's fine. We will find people soon. Knowing them, they are looking too. Which means that we will meet at some point," he tells us as he looked around the space. It was a two story, and it was well boarded up.
"You guys can put your things down somewhere. I'll be checking the rooms to see if everything is okay for the night," he says. "Thanks," I said and he nodded before walking away from us. I closed and locked the door and we placed our things in what looks like a living room.
We waited for about 15 minutes before the tall lad returned back to us to tell us that everything was okay and that we should get food ready. "We used a lot of energy in our walk today and the women have been talking about eating for a while," he says and I nod. I took Ed's bag and took out some snacks that we could eat while Harry was looking for a way that the salami could be cooked.
"So this is where we are going to stay? Where is the lookout going to be?" Becky asked as she looked around the place. "There is a basement and it is safe for people to stay in. There isn't any zombies, so you guys will stay down there." "What about you?" "I'll stay here so that if anything gets through will get shot in sight."
"What if it's people? You know...survivors?" "Then I will not shoot. I know when you shoot and when not to shoot. I'm not stupid and I would highly appreciate it if you stop thinking I am," he says and we looked at Mark.
"Niall is right about this being a no man left behind thing, but I can go out on my own. I have enough experience of killing zombies to do so, but I don't want to. I do need a source of protection and assistance and I'm willing to give the same back if you want to compromise," he then said.
Mark just stayed silent and I looked at the tall man. "If you find out a way to make heat, then do you mind bringing us some cooked meat or something?" I asked and he nods. I looked at everyone else. "Alright everyone, we will bunk in the basement. If the space does not seem safe, then shoot it. If it speaks, then don't. Understand?" They all nodded and we walked down the stairs and into the dark basement.
When we reached the bottom, we saw the wide space. I went in my bag and pulled our some candles. "Lighter," I said and Ed went at it and helped me light some of the candles that we had. I handed them off to each person and they thanked me. "Start setting up your sleeping bags while Harry is attempting to make heat and make us some cooked salami."
We and I placed our sleeping bags together and we sat on top of them. "This is going to take a while, isn't it?" He asked and I let out a breath. "It wasn't going to be easy. None of us said that it was going to be easy, but at least one thing happened." "What's that?" I lifted my pinky and that made him remember of last night and he smiled big.
*We promised to live today, didn't we?" I asked and he nodded. "Now can we promise for tomorrow?" He asks and I nodded. "I promise to live tomorrow." "And I promise the same thing," he says and this time we sealed the promise with a kiss.
We are getting close to finding survivors and I know it...
