Chapter One - 2015
Jackson Smythe was a kind boy; he felt like he needed to be. His father was pushing him to be the best at everything: school quarterback, the smartest, even the strongest. Everyday, after school, he would do his homework, wrestle and box with his father, go to football training and then go home to sleep. He would obviously eat as well, even though there wasn't much time for it.
His little brother was similar to him, as he looked up at everything that he did. Johnny was fifteen at the moment, however his immaturity was far below his age. He would often try to irritate his older brother and occasionally prank him - typical younger brother, really. Despite his mischievous acts, he was as optimistic as the sun and always saw the bright side of things. He was very heartfelt as well; he would weep at the sight of a stray cat looking for food in the trash cans. Johnny was very innocent and was oblivious to the cruel side of the world. He was also the most generous person that you would ever meet; he once gave his and his brothers ice cream to an old homeless man. His deep blue eyes were like the streams of glacier and showed of happiness. He had his shaggy blond hair like a surfer guy would have it.
Johnny looked like their father, whereas Jackson looked like their mother. Their father was the strong headed parent, who thought that they had to be perfect, stereotypical family, that everyone envied. Their mother was the exact opposite; she saw the good in everybody and accepted everyone for whoever they are.
The family was currently in the car, listening the radio. Mr smythe put the volume on full blast and started to make strange dance moves, that made Johnny laugh. A smile was planted on everyone's face; the uptight father was finally letting loose and having fun. Jackson was confused, but instead of asking and starting grab argument, he decided to ignore the strange feeling at the pit of his stomach.
The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. The sky had no cloud in it and was free of rain. There was even a fading rainbow that illuminated the sky a little. Today was a good day and there was nothing to ruin it.
Out of nowhere, Jackson heard his mother panicking and screaming. He looked out to the front of the car, to be greeted with five cars coming straight at us, honking. They were in the opposite lane to the one they were before. There was a quiet clicking sound beside him. Jackson turned his head to side, to see that Johnny was taking off his seatbelt and lunging forward to block the cars from hitting Jackson. Fear took over Jacksons body, as he fumbled with his seatbelt, with his trembling fingers, in efforts to save his naive little brother.
Everything began to slow down, as Jackson felt like he was being tossed around like a dog toy. Howls and screams filled his ears as he reached out to try and save his brother, who was almost unconscious. Jackson yelled, demanding his brother to stay awake. It seemed like everything was being turned upside down, while his back hit the roof of the SUV. He crawled over to his dying younger sibling and yelled in his face, tears streaming down his face. Jacksons head whips around like a lasso, to see his father bleeding to death with his last breaths, and his mother being dragged out of the car, while she wailed and screamed for them. He grabbed Johnny by his underarms and drags him out of the car, occasionally hitting his broken leg. He lays his younger brother on the grass, that had small glass shards scattered over it. He immediately began to blow air into Johnny's mouth, but it wasn't enough... Johnny's breathing slowed until it came to a halt. Jackson broke out in tears, as he hit his brother repeatedly, screaming at him to wake up.
Unconsciousness soon, took over Jackson... maybe it was because he was so scared and stressed that his mind wanted a break, no one knows - but what they did know was that he only woke up two years later...
