Chapter Ten

Silver put his arm around Scarlet's waist and pulled her as close as he could, leaving absolutely no space between them. Heat rushed to her cheeks. Part of her only thought about him yet she knew the most important thing right now was to get him to tell his story. "What are you doing?" she asked, looking over at him.

"Setting the mood, of course. What did you think I was doing? We've gotta be comfortable, don't we?"

Scarlet sighed, then gave him a smile. "Fine, fine. Just tell me. We don't have a lot of time."

The blue in his eyes popped when Silver looked at her. That sea of darkness she saw when they were first stuck here was now brightening just a little. "What do you mean?" He laughed. "We are trapped in a bubble. I doubt anyone would miss us. We have tons of time on our hands."

"The whole reason for even dealing with Ash was because my parents went missing, as you should know." Rolling her eyes, she continued on. "We have to get out of here and find out what he's up to."

Silver placed his hands in his pockets and looked out into the room. She could only guess he was thinking about all the machines he handled with Ash before he switched sides, now sitting in this terrible place with his best friend. "I know you're right," he said, taking a deep breath. "Okay..."

"Do you need me to ask you a question so you can start?"

"Probably." Silver laughed. "I'm sorry, this is harder than I thought it would be."

Scarlet smiled, patting his shoulder. "It's alright, I know you're trying. We can get through this. Whatever you say, I can't promise that I'll be fine, but I will try my best."

"Thanks," he responded, giving her a small smile. "How should I start the story?"

"From the beginning preferably." She grinned, giggling.

He laid his hand on top of hers and squeezed it slightly. "Right, sorry. So, I know you know about the first clue. At least we don't need to cover that. The most important part was during the clue at Pointed Peak. Remember when you went to get it and you said you had those memories about us that saved you?"

"Of course I do," she answered, "that was when..." Instead of finishing the sentence, Scarlet trailed off. Their days were happier then, even though her parents were missing. Things would change after he finished this story, but she'd do her best to get everything as close as she could back to the way it all used to be. She wanted more amazing memories with him. All of this fighting and arguing was too much for her. It was hard to imagine this reality of something she never thought would happen.

Silver cleared his throat, bringing her out of her trance and back to the story. "I know," he said, keeping a hold on her hand. "But when you told me that you fell and I was surprised over it, I knew. Ash took me when I was alone and explained everything that was happening to you, but he wouldn't let me go after you. I was stuck, literally. He put some sort of magic on me that wouldn't let me move–"

"What?" Scarlet exclaimed, starting to stand up. Her face slowly turned a darker shade of red as the heat rose through her body.

"Don't," he responded, keeping her on the ground. "Let me finish, please."

She sighed, managing to calm herself down before nodding. "Sorry," she squeaked out.

Silver continued on, not missing a beat. "During the time that I was stuck, he told me that I needed to help him get to you or he would–"

"What are you two talking about in there?" Ash's voice interrupted over the intercom inside the bubble they were trapped in. "You know I can't have you talking about anything serious after all that you found without me knowing. Will I need to remove one of you?"

"Oh shut up, Ash." Scarlet snarled. "We don't need you." She stood up and brushed herself off, heading toward the glass. Heat rising again, she pounded her fist onto it, wanting to escape but it was no use. So angry, she couldn't feel the impact between her fist and the glass, letting herself continue the motion repeatedly. "I will find out what you are up to!" she screamed.

"Will you, though? Are you sure about that? How do you expect to do anything when you can't even get out?" He laughed, pressing a button on the machine across from them and instantly everything went dark.

Scarlet mumbled, unable to see Silver sitting on the ground. She would beat Ash, somehow. He took everything from her but she wouldn't let it happen anymore. Carefully she let the heat flow through her body, putting her hands out with her palms face up. "Silver," she whispered, "we need to figure out how to break the glass."

"Don't you want to finish the story?"

Flames popped out above her hands, lighting up their bubble. "I'd love to, but we don't have time right now. I just need to do what you've been telling me to do this whole time. Trust you." She sighed, pausing a moment to figure out what to say next. "If you were really on Ash's side, you would've been out of here already, not sitting here next to me keeping me company. I told you we'd get through this before you started your story, and I promise you, we will get through this. All you have to do is help me."

With a smile glued onto his face, Silver popped up from behind and wrapped his arms around Scarlet's waist, giving her a hug. "What do you need me to do?"

"I think we need to use our elements at the same time. In the same spot. Maybe it will break a little and we can escape." Scarlet walked over to the edge of the glass and sat down, letting the fire slowly heat up the glass. "Get on the other side with the ice."

Silver made his way over to the edge, close to the fire, but not enough to get burnt. While channeling the ice, he asked, "Do you have any idea what you're doing?"

"Not really," she answered, laughing. "I just thought maybe something would spark."

"I see, I see. Sparks do work pretty well between us, after all." He winked at her, letting the ice drift up toward the glass. "So, should we continue the story?"

Scarlet rolled her eyes at the wink, loving that they got somewhat close to how they used to be, but she knew there was more to the story. She did make a promise though. Breaking it wasn't part of the plan. She'd get them back to how they were before all this happened if it took everything in the world. "Well, Ash is gone now, so I think so."

"Are you ready?"

She smiled. Before she was nervous, but now all she had to do was tell herself that nothing would break them. For the first time in a while, she could answer him confidently. "I am."

As fire and ice drifted to the glass, Silver glanced toward Scarlet. "Okay, continuing from where we left off I was going to say that Ash said..." he paused, forming the words. "Ash said either I help him or my family and I die."

Scarlet opened her mouth, ready to speak, but no words came. She couldn't believe that this enemy of theirs wanted to kill her best friend. Now she had no idea why she was mad at Silver for so long. Though part of her still felt like she couldn't fully trust him, it was easier to understand where he was coming from. But she knew he could've told her and they would've been a team no matter what instead of all the lies. No matter what she wanted to say, she knew none of that would comfort him. It took a lot to say that, especially since it was hidden.

Just as she was about to stand up and get closer to him, even though the fire could've burnt him, the glass shattered into a million tiny pieces. They both threw their hands over their heads, letting the fire and ice fade away, careful not to get hit by the glass. A hole appeared where the glass once was. They were finally able to escape. Scarlet jumped up and ran over to Silver, embracing him in a tight hug. "We did it."

Then, she remembered what he told her moments ago. No words could comfort him and she knew that. It was completely understandable that he didn't want to die. She never wanted to be the one to lose him. Without a second thought, Scarlet pushed her lips onto his. Though she was still disappointed in him for lying to her, all she could think about was whether she would get another chance to feel his lips on hers. It didn't take long for Silver to react, his hand trailing up through her hair, making the kiss even more special than she planned. Yet when they came up for air she said the three words Scarlet didn't think would come out of her mouth for quite some time. "I love you."
