Chapter 4

Day: Thursday (13th of September)

First of all, sorry for being this late. Like, two weeks late. Secondly, I will put this story on hold. I read back to this cringing almost the entire time. I write because I like it, and I publish my writing to improve, but as I'm looking back on this, I feel like I've barely improved.

I don't know for how long I will leave this book, but it's sure to be at least a month or longer. I will study both on the stuff I'm talking about and my writing. I'm really sorry for making you put up with this, but it simply seems unfair to both my readers and other writers. False Hope has gotten over the 10K reads, while it's absolute garbage. There are people with so much better stories. I like to think that False Hope's plot is good, but the beginning of the story sucked, and you can easily figure out I was/am an amateur. It's unfair to the people that are actually doing their best that I'm getting this many reads for bad writing. So my goal will be to write something I think deserves the reads it gets. I hope you understand. ^^

Anyway, there's one more chapter I've already written, so when I get back don't expect much for Chapter 5. And please, please, please, tell me what you like in stories and how you think I can get better. It'd help me a lot.

For now, I'll just let you enjoy this chapter and again, sorry.

( Jessie's POV )

I slowly turned around. How long had I stayed up studying? And that stupid alarm clock had to wake me up again. An annoying disturbance. Shouldn't we trainees be healthy, not sleepy? Such a pain. I stood up and started with my daily routine. This time, I opened my window curtains for some extra light in the room. It was kind of pretty outside. Most leaves had already lost their green color, and created a warm red, brown, yellow or orange. Though some still held their bright green color. Such an amazing sight to see. Autumn sure was a beautiful time of the year.

A loud bang on the door. I sighed and opened up. "Morning Cassidy."I said, before even looking if it was her. Cassidy chuckled, and opened her mouth to say something, but I interrupted. "I know, breakfast time. Let's go." Cassidy looked at me in confusion.

"You already seem to get used to this."she said, a bit surprised. We walked through the halls to the dining room.

"I'm not used to this at all."I said. Frustrating, but true. "I just remembered the schedule, which tells me that it's breakfast time." Cassidy walked beside me, smiling lightly.

"Don't worry,"she said. "It'll be alright. Did you talk to James?" I nodded. "So what did he say?"

"I'll see you tomorrow, after training, in my room."I replied. Cassidy smirked. All these people... Despite being grown ups they all acted like a bunch of high schoolers that just happened to like violence. "Take that expression off of your face and act like your age."

"Oh, and what age do you expect me to be then, Jessica?"Cassidy said, giggling a bit. I rolled my eyes. Well, she looked like she was around my age. Maybe a little younger.

"Between the nineteen and twenty-one years old."I answered monotone. "And don't call me Jessica."

"Hm, correct."Cassidy muttered, pouting slightly. Though she looked a bit happier when she saw Dylan. That guy had taken long enough to wake up. "Ah, it was about time."Cassidy said cheerfully, as Dylan sat down beside me. "Where were you?"

"Yeah, sorry."Dylan said nervously, scratching the back of his head. "I just wanted to finish my research before breakfast. I've been looking for enough information to help Jessie with chemistry, biology and weapon knowledge. Though I hope you also studied yourself, because even with our help, two weeks is a rather ambitious goal." I nodded, smiling proudly.

"I've studied until 3 AM."I told him. I had indeed took my time. First to memorize every bit about sharpshooter guns, normal guns, and the SSG 69. Then I did some yoga to stay awake. After that, I took my time to learn judo moves, and practice some of those as well. Then I had practiced a bit of stick fighting. And in the end, I went to look a bit more into the nursing books. It was too late to study something difficult by then. "I will receive some help from James and Paige, too."

"Okay, good."Cassidy said, and she stretched out. "Sorry, Dylan, but we're already done with breakfast. You better be in time tomorrow." Dylan sighed.

"I at least studied."

"Well, I don't need to study extra for Jessie. You're the brains, I'm the muscles."

"You do realize I'm not there when they're gonna test us, right?"Dylan questioned. Cassidy nodded annoyed. "Okay then. I hope you won't abandon your studies then." Another nod.

"Let's go, Jess."Cassidy said with a smile. "We still have some time before training."

( time skip )

It was a pretty tough day. And the fact that I hadn't gotten used to this amount of exercise a day made it only harder. We started the day with two hours of running. After that we had a small break before we had swimming. Then we had a break from exercise and had to study biology. Though here biology meant looking at the most painful spots in the human body. And that kind of stuff that didn't have anything to do with biology at all. On top of that, we had another training of weapon knowledge. And when that was finally over, I was already falling apart.

I sighed and had to do my best to keep my legs moving. "You're in luck, Jess."Cassidy said with a grin. "You're done for the day." I groaned and shook my head.

"You are, but I'm not. I still have to practice unarmed fighting for who knows how long."I  grumbled. Cassidy gave me a pitying look. My body couldn't take this much exercise. I was lucky to have been able to do less exercise these last hours, but my muscles were still roaring. I drank some water.

"Good luck."Cassidy said, before walking away.

I made my way to James. He had told me to meet him in his room, but I had no idea where his room was. I tapped on his shoulder. He turned around, a wary look in his eyes. Someone quite prepared for if someone suddenly barges in and decides to attack him. "Oh, it's you."

"Sorry, but I need to know where your room is if I want to get there."I replied, trying to ignore how incredibly weird this sounded. I just had to pray no one was hearing this.

"Ah, that's right."James agreed, nodding in confirmation. "Follow me then." I obeyed. His room was in the opposite direction of mine. Though there wasn't a lot of differences in the halls. Cassidy always visited my room, so it was safe to assume she had a room near mine. Maybe there was a boys wing, and a girls wing. Though there didn't really seem a reason for that.

James stopped in front of a door and got out his key. I hadn't seen a room aside from mine, so I couldn't really say I wasn't curious. Just where did this guy exactly live?

The door opened and James gestured I should get in. The room was completely different from mine. The walls, the floor, the furniture. He opened another door in his room, using a secret code. Just why so mysterious and secretive? James got open yet another place, so I followed him inside. Nothing was inside. Absolutely nothing.

"What kind of place is this?"I questioned.

"A place for practice."James replied. "I can practice with anything, though right now it would be better to keep this place empty. You only need your own body for unarmed fighting." That was right. I put down my bag, stuffed with bottles of water and weapons. "Let's first stretch up a bit."James added. I gave an almost unnoticeable nod. Even though my muscles still hurt, most of it had gone away slightly. Convient for when I was going to practice. And I was kinda curious as to how good James was at unarmed fighting.

I ran a few circles in the room, before stretching. It was hard to move with such an unbearable pain in my entire body. But I could only ignore it.

After about ten minutes James walked up to me. "Have you studied the judo moves?" I nodded. "Good. As you know, judo is one of the simpler types of unarmed fighting. Let's start with a throwing technique. The ippon seoinage; the single-handed back throw. Shall I demonstrate?" I nodded.

Before I knew it James had grabbed me by my uniform. He lifted me up, and turned around. I was above the ground for just a split second. And then he threw me off of his back. I fell on the ground with a loud thud.

A perfect combination of strength, speed and technique. Suddenly it wasn't all that hard to imagine this guy being the best out of the entire group.

I stood up, degustating the disgusting taste of vomit. I swallowed it back.

"I think I understand why you get praised so much now."I said. A small smile appeared on James' face.

"Now you give it a try."he commanded. "Keep your stance wide and keep your body lower." I carefully obeyed every tip he gave me before grabbing his uniform and trying to lift him up. "And as you're moving forward balance is the key." I took my stance in account, before putting even more strength in lifting him up. I had to be a bit faster. I let James rest on my back for less than a second and threw him off immediately.

"Was that good?"I asked.

"It was pitiful."James replied. I gritted my teeth. It was harder than I had imagined. "Try again. Put more pressure on the rest of your body. Don't try to get all your strength only in your arm." I came again. This time it went a little bit better, but he still didn't seem to feel a thing.

( time skip )

After dinner we had just practiced even more, perfecting my throws. I felt miserable. It was already late and I still had to learn all that stuff about guns, chemicals and medicines. I fell on my bed, completely worn-out. I could hear my heart beating loudly in the quiet room. My bed was so soft. And I was very tired. I shook my head and stood up. I still had to work.

I walked out of my room to the dinner tables. Everything was clean, the lights were out and no one was here. Well, it was late after all. I switched the lights on and walked to the coffee machine. I had too much to do to fall asleep now.

The bitter coffee flavor came into my mouth. It was hot, and I almost burned my tongue. Then I walked through the halls to the library, searching for a book that would help me with studying all that information. It really was as if I was back in high school. The only difference was how this entire "school" was about violence, instead of against it.

When I got back into my room, I sat down on my bed, taking out the books to start studying. It was already over midnight now. And we didn't have some kind of weekend as a break.

Well, nothing to do about it.

Everyday consisted of nine hours of training. Five hours was the maximum for physical training. And after this week there were only fourteen days left. Two weeks. That meant I had about seventy hours of physical training before the mysterious test. And that was excluding the hours I spent training with James. Tomorrow I would first have two hours of medication, then two hours shooting, two hours of chemistry and lastly three hours of unarmed fighting. That'd mean if I wanted to take a shower, I could only take one late at night, or early in the morning.

It'd be the smartest to study first, and shower after. I started with studying for unarmed fighting, now that the coffee still had some effect on me, sighing. Tomorrow wasn't gonna be any easier. Well, at least my body might get used to this intense training sometime soon.

I know, I know. This is getting boring. I feel the same. But I have no choice but to make it boring before my good ideas will come.

And a lot of virtual cookies for the people that got my not-so-subtle reference.
