Chapter 01
I know what some of you guys might be thinking, and it ain't it. I'm not considering any love interests at all in this story yet. Maybe in the future, but definitely not now. Whatever is happening, is because it is going along with the rough plotline I set up for this story, making sure that every character TRIES NOT TO GO OOC.
Thank you, and please enjoy the story!

The next day, Aka woke up late. She didn't realize this until it was 20 minutes before school started, and she was still in her pajamas. After that it was a blur of clothes, toast, and school supplies. Aka ran out the door, toast stuffed into her mouth as she bolted through the streets. Her neighbor waved and wished her good morning as she dashed by, only gaining a wave in return. As she kept running, she noticed that Tsuna and his little group were up ahead.
Reborn turned, and spotted her running form. She ignored the stare that the baby gave her and kept running, not wanting to miss the sight of the prefect that intrigued her. The baby did interest her too, along with Tsuna (albeit very slightly), but Hibari was far more interesting to her. Reborn watched her as she passed by, a smirk crawling across his head as he thought of something rather...interesting. At least, according to him.
Aka made it five minutes before school started, giving her time to observe the prefect. To her, he was like a marker. If she saw him in the beginning of the day, she could almost guarantee that it would be peaceful and quiet all day long. She liked it when it was peaceful. If it was noisy she didn't mind, but she just preferred the solitude that could be offered.
It was then that she remembered yesterday, and decided to confront him about why he was staring at her. She walked up to him, watching his movements as he checked the students. Hibari noticed her walking, and his eyes narrowed a bit. It was time for him to talk to her about yesterday.
"Kusakabe, check the students as they walk in. There's a herbivore that I need to...deal with." Hibari ordered, walking towards the girl. Kusakabe watched Hibari as he walked over to her, sighing. He had seen Hibari watching her in the hallways, and it somewhat disturbed him because he could tell that Hibari didn't have a crush on her. He couldn't identify the feeling that Hibari associated with her, but he had a feeling that it was staring at him straight in the face.
"Hn, herbivore. We need to talk." Hibari stated once they stood in front of each other.
"Perfect, I needed to talk to you anyway." Aka replied, putting on a stoic face. Hibari wasn't too surprised at that, and started to walk away from her. Catching his drift, she followed him to the reception room. When they reached, he sat down in his chair behind the mahogany desk of his office. Aka stared at him in slight bewilderment. She hadn't expected any ounce of peace from the guy considering it was the Hibari Kyoya, the one who "bit people to death". But she figured that she would take advantage of it.
"Look, I just want to know why you were staring at me yesterday." Aka stated bluntly, getting straight to the point. Hibari - still not surprised of her attitude towards him - simply looked at her.
"That's what I want to know herbivore. Why were you staring at me?" Hibari questioned. Aka and Hibari both fell silent, before Aka finally answered him.
"I find you interesting to say the least. I ask questions to myself about why you're so dedicated to the job, and what joy you could possibly get from it. So, I usually observe you and try to figure it out. The one time that-"
"-that you don't take out your book, you looked at me as I was observing you." Hibari finished for her blandly. Aka stared at him in astonishment. He not only finished it for her, but found out that she was observed in turn. Let's not forget the fact he spoke more than four words. Wait, even that's a bit of a stretch. Two is definitely a better number.
"Now, you should answer my question, should you not?" she inquired, an almost irritated tone in her voice.
"You don't have tension around me, and I wonder why. So I observe you." he answered monotonously. Her jaw dropped at him. That has got to be the most he's ever spoken, in his life. She stared at him in wonder before asking him one more question.
"Have you been observing me since the beginning of the year?"
"Hn."
She almost glared at him. He clearly wasn't so talkative now.
"That's almost as long as I have been observing you. You know what, I'm going to go to class. I don't want to be late." she said, turning around. She walked out, feeling somewhat suspicious about Hibari Kyoya. Not only did he observe her, but he said more than one complete sentence to her. She really didn't know what to be more suspicious of now: the baby and Sawada, or Hibari Kyoya.
As she made her way to class, she heard the girls and guys both talking about her. Whispering new insults, mumbling curses, and talking about what would happen if she wasn't here. She wasn't disturbed by this, and made it to her classroom. She noticed the glares she was getting the moment she entered the classroom, but didn't bother with it.
She made her way to her seat, which had been cursed upon for a very long time now. The moment she sat down, she searched her bag for the book that she didn't get to read yesterday. Upon retrieval of the said book, she smiled slightly and cracked it open. The smell of fresh pages hit her nose, and she took in the musty scent happily. She loved the scent, and wished that there was a bookmark that smelled like that so that if the book was old, she could smell it. Out of pure curiosity, she glanced out the window and found Hibari staring at her. She offered a small wave, just to be friendly to him for once.
Hibari was shocked at the gesture, since people usually ran away in fear and refused to look at him. He nodded back before catching a student for dressing inappropriately. She chuckled at the scene before starting to read her book. She was soon lost to the world, focusing on dragons, wizards, knights, and zombies. After what felt like hours later to her, she heard a huge clap in front of her. She broke out of her trance with a blink before looking up, and finding her teacher staring at her in disapproval.
"Please answer the question on the board Oozora-san." the teacher instructed as he moved back to his desk. He usually never scolded her for reading a book because she kept her grades up, and would just break her attention from the book for a second. The class started to snicker at her. Not that she actually minded of course.
"Ah, the answer is 3 to the third power, in other words, 27." she answered. The teacher thanked her, and started to explain to the rest of the class why that was the correct answer. A new wave of whispers started again, and she ignored them alongside the teacher. She started to read again, only to be interrupted by the door banging open.
"Oozora Aka, please report to the Disciplinary Committee's office. Hibari Kyoya requests to see you." the teenager at the door stated. The red-headed teen grabbed her bookmark and placed into the book, carefully closing it so that none of the pages would fold on accident. The teacher quickly dismissed Aka from the class, letting her classmates whispers and her new book accompany her to the door. When she made it to the door, he closed it and started to guide her to the room.
"So, is there any specific reason that Hibari-san requested to see me?" she questioned him, eyeing him with such intensity that the boy gulped. Intimidation was something that Aka used quite frequently among the students to get answers to her questions, and she could use it well. After years of using it, who wouldn't get good at it?
"W-Well," he started off, mentally cursing himself for stuttering. "I'm not sure. He just asked me to - uh - bring you there." he finished, his voice gradually lowering until it was nothing more than a murmur at the end.
Aka smirked slightly. Now there was another student that was sure to be petrified at the thought of her.
"I see, thank you." she said, tearing her gaze away from the quivering young lad. He sighed in relief upon feeling her piercing gaze stray off of him. They walked the rest of the way in silence, with Aka cracking open her book and starting to read again. The boy glanced down at her in wonder as she made her way to the disciplinary room without looking up even once. Before you - the reader - says anything, this is a skill that many of us bookworms have. Don't judge.
Right when Aka reached the disciplinary room with the lackey behind her, she sighed and put the bookmark in place before closing the book. She opened the door and walked in, not bothering to notify Hibari of her presence. Hibari glanced up from his paperwork, then flicked his eyes back down as she plopped down on one of the couches in the room. She was stunned, yet again, at the lack of vigor he had when it came to her. It was a peculiar day for Hibari, she mentally noted. She didn't bother to look at him before starting to speak.
"Why did you call me here?"
Only the scratching of a pen answered her as the boy from before stared at the scene in awe. This awe however, was both in terror and amazement. The two others in the room ignored his presence, one continuing to work silently while the other decided to investigate what he was doing. Aka ventured over to his desk, and looked at the some of the papers. They were mostly about the different clubs and the budgets that had to be set for them. She could see that Hibari was getting tired, and felt sympathy for him.
"Listen, as repayment for getting me out of that stupid class, I'll help you out here. Hand me some of the papers." she sighed, placing her book down on the desk. Hibari's gaze flicked towards the book.
"I need to take a break from reading it to be honest. Let me help you since you helped me."
He didn't object, but didn't agree either. That's why when she took some of the papers and sat down with them at the coffee table near the couches, the lackey that was still there was surprised. Someone was talking to the Hibari Kyoya, and not flinching or caring about whether or not he/she would be beat up. It was a new one for him. And so, the skylark and the outcast worked in solitude, only glancing at each other to see if the other had fallen asleep, or if they could gain new information on each other. The lackey had gone to get Kusakabe ten minutes after the ordeal, and that's when Kusakabe finally realized what feeling Hibari associated with Aka.
It was loneliness. It wasn't anything else other than that. They both were observing each other because they seemed so similar to one another, and they didn't even realize it. Even with Aka's intelligence it wasn't completely clear. Kusakabe sighed upon the revelation, and instructed the others to not go near them the rest of the day. When it was nighttime and they still hadn't left school, it worried Kusakabe. So he was surprised when he stopped by the disciplinary room, and found both of them asleep at their own individual tables with bruises covering their skin.
Aka seemed to have it slightly worse, with Hibari marked with less bruises and cuts on his body. They both were sleeping quietly, one of them snoring occasionally. Kusakabe smiled lightly at the scene, noticing that a pair of tonfas rested on Hibari's desk, while a pair of yawara sticks rested on the other. He closed the door quietly, careful so as to not wake the duo up. Those two would be in for a surprise tomorrow.

The sun rose that morning, accented with the pastel colors in the sky. The birds were chirping, and the two teenagers were screaming. Wait, screaming?
"Herbivore, you started to sleep first."
"Hibari, you were sleeping first! I remember you collapsing in your chair first!"
"I was sitting there and waiting until you fell asleep."
"If you can say that, that means the same thing for me!"
The two were arguing about who fell asleep first, much to Kusakabe's amusement. The two eventually stopped fighting once their stomachs grumbled in unison. The silence that befell them was quickly replaced with Aka asking what they wanted to eat in the morning. Then casual conversation started between the two (surprisingly enough even though Hibari barely talked and they were just in an argument), and Kusakabe was left with a smile on his face.
"Oozora-san, feel free to use the Home Ec room if you want breakfast." Kusakabe interrupted. Aka looked towards him, and shot him a small, tired smile.
"Thank you Kusakabe-san. Do you guys want anything either, or not?" Aka inquired in reply. Kusakabe looked on in shock as Hibari answered her calmly with his favorite food. He had heard that she was rude and unfriendly towards everybody. Clearly that was just a rumor.
"Ah, no. But thank you for the offer Oozora-san." he thanked her, and moved out of her way.
"Alright then. By the way, what day is it today? I just woke up and all so..." she trailed off. Kusakabe shot her a smile as she yawned afterward.
"It's Saturday. You can just head home and explain the situation to your parents. We'll get the school to verify it too if needed." he explained. She nodded, still a bit sleepy as she yawned.
"I won't need to worry about that." she notified him as she started to make her way to the Home Ec room. Kusakabe stared at her retreating figure as Hibari stared at her as well. When the door closed, Kusakabe looked at Hibari questionably. He had been staring at the door, even after she left.
"Are you okay Hibari-san?" he asked, a bit suspicious of what happened between the two. Hibari nodded his head, a smirk coming up onto his face.
"Hn." he replied, looking down at his finished pile of papers. He then looked over at the rest of the piles on the coffee table, checking through them to see if it was done right. Kusakabe watched him carefully, making sure that his bad mood wouldn't spark. After Hibari checked through the papers, he put the piles on his desk as well.
"The herbivore was helpful." he commented as he sat down, relaxing in his chair. Kusakabe stared at Hibari a bit more, and opened his mouth to ask a question, but then thought wiser and closed it again. Maybe it was better to see where this new partnership would lead.
