Why I Decided to Write
Whoa! Did I write that? I could not remember the history teacher's specific assignment other than he told us he would be grading on content. We were not to obsess over spelling and grammar. I remember I liked that part of the assignment!
I had come across my essay in an old box of school papers stored in the attic. As I flipped through the papers wondering if I should keep them or throw them out, I noticed a paper with a grade of A followed by multiple plus signs. A note written under the grade stated something to the effect that he loved reading my writings. I was intrigued. I did not remember what I had written, so I sat down and read my old essay.
I was stunned. I loved what I had read. I realized I had a knack for writing. I pondered my discovery over the next several days. I came to the conclusion I should write, but the timing was poor. Maybe a career in writing could happen in the future, but for now the financial challenges were too important. I decided to delay pursuing this pathway. I now wish I had dabbled in writing in my free time. I think it would have been a great outlet for the pressure I was under.
Over the years, I never forgot the reaction to my writing as I sat in the attic that day. That reaction is why I started writing years later.
Do you remember what prompted you to write?
