Why Does this Happen to Me?
~No POV~
In this world, there is no such thing as superheroes. Even with all the magic, there wasn't any crimes on a huge scale that the police couldn't handle. Sure, occasionally there would be someone who tried to play hero, but after stopping a few crimes, they disappeared, never to be seen again. Well, that's what everyone had thought anyways, including me. Until I met someone who changed my perspective completely. Until I met...her.
~Violet's POV~
"Alright slow down! What the fuck are you talking about?" (Y/n) asked
"You fucking idiot! Are you that stupid that you couldn't realize I was trying to do this in secret!"
"A thank you would seem appropriate right about now! And you still didn't answer my question!"
"That's it! I'm done!" I take a scroll out, and a huge ball of fire appeared in between both of us.
"God dammit."
I throw the ball at him, engulfing his body in flames.
"Damn that took more energy than I expected." I catch my breath, and stand up straight. "At least that'll take care of h-" Before I can finish my sentence, the flames explode in different directions, blinding me for a second and pushing me backwards. When I get my vision back, I see a black figure walking out of the now flaming floor.
~(Y/n)'s POV~
'Why does this happen to me? I try helping someone and this shit happens.' The ball approaches me. 'Alright. Fine. I'd rather not die today anyways.' I turn my arms into demon arms and block the attack. I throw my arms out, and the flames are thrown in every direction.
"H-How?" Violet asked me, stunned that I was able to block her attack.
"Have you forgotten that my magic allows me to turn my body parts into demon body parts?" I asked "Demons are fireproof. Something I learned when I fell into my fireplace when I was five. Coincidentally, that's also the first time I was able to activate my powers willingly. Had a few control issues for the first five years of my life."
"Wait...you were born with your magic?"
"Yeah...? Isn't everyone? Well, besides the people without magic."
"No. People usually get their magic as early as three and as late as six." Violet explained
"WHAT?! YOU MEAN EVERYONE LIED TO ME?!"
"Afraid so."
"My parents too..."
"Yeah, I don't have time for your sob story. I have to start a whole new plan because you ruined this one. I will stop her. The one with black angel wings." Violet said, hatred staining her voice.
"Angel wings?"
"Are you stupid too? The girl who you 'saved' me from. She had wings."
"No she didn't." I said
"Stop kidding around. I don't have time for it." Violet said, glaring at me.
"She really didn't have wings. She had black hair in a ponytail, her eyes were green and she had a gold dagger."
"S-So she really didn't have wings?" Violet asked me, fear in her voice.
"Nope."
"Fuck, fuck, FUCK! She really hired her! The world's most infamous assassin, Serenity Frater . I knew I shouldn't have trusted her."
"WHOA WHOA WHOA! SERENITY FRATER?! THE ASSASSIN WHO HAS OVER FIVE-HUNDRED CONFIRMED KILLS?!"
"Oh, so you AREN'T completely stupid." Violet said "Yes, that's her. She's never missed a target. Well...until now. No one knows what her magic is, or how she's been able to get away with every murder she's committed. They always know it's her from the mark she leaves on the body."
"Teleportation."
"What?"
"Her power. It's teleportation."
"What? Really? That's a little underwhelming. I was hoping it was something that allowed her to take control of her enemies from far away and make them kill themselves." Violet said, pacing back and forth. "Oh well. I guess beggars can't be choosers."
"Alright, can you tell me what the fuck is going on now?"
"Not now. Fall Cabin, six o'clock."
"Fall Cabin? Really? Alright fine."
"Now go to your class, I'll put this fire out." Violet said, getting out another scroll. After muttering what I assume to be the weird language on the scroll, a rain cloud appears at the ceiling. It starts to rain and successfully puts the fire out.
"What are you gonna do about the floor now that it's wet?"
"You're still here?" Violet sighed "I don't know. I'll probably get mop it up." Violet walks towards the janitors closet, and gets a mop out from it.
"God dammit." I go up and grab a mop.
"What are you doing?"
"What does it look like? I'm helping you. It's my fault that the floor was on fire too."
"No you're not. Go back to your class. I told you I can handle it."
"Do you really want to spend an hour or more mopping the entire basement floor?" I asked
"...FINE! You can help. Just don't talk to me."
After a few minutes of silence, I look over at her. She has a pissed off pouting face while cleaning the floor.
"So..."
"I thought I told you not to talk to me."
"Yeah, I don't care. Why do you wear that weird outfit like you're part of the Victorian Era?" I asked
"My clothes? I wear them because my family is rich and my parents are controlling and think 'You should be proper and present yourself at school.'" Violet explained
"Oh."
Another twenty minutes passed, and we were about halfway done.
"Hey, Violet?"
"What could you possibly want now?"
"I just wanted to say it's nice to see the real you and not the mask you hide behind." I said, cleaning the floor, staring at a dirt spot.
"W-What?! Why would you even say that?! You idiot!" Violet yelled, throwing her mop at me.
"What the hell?! It was a compliment! Why are you getting mad?!"
"Because you're an idiot!"
~Time Skip~
"FINALLY!" I yelled, throwing my mop at the wall.
"That took longer then I thought."
"What time is it?"
"Noon. So it's almost lunch."
"NOON?! WE MISSED AN HOUR OF CLASS?!"
"Yep." Violet said, putting her mop away. "See you at Fall Cabin later." She walked up the stairs and out of sight.
"...I gotta get to class." I said, running up the stairs and to my class.
"They're packing up?" I asked myself, looking through the window. "Wait...who's that guy sitting next to Kat?" Next to Kat is a guy I've never seen before, trying to show off his magic to her and she was smiling. 'Really? You can turn your body into a puddle. That's not even that good of magic. Whatever. I better not hear them fucking on the couch in the middle of the night.'
The bell rang, and everyone walked out of class. I see Kat walk out, and I fall into step next to her and the guy.
"Oh, (Y/n)! There you are!" Kat said, completely forgetting about the conversation she was having with the other guy. "Where the hell were you?!"
"Long story." I said
The guy coughed, and Kat suddenly remembered she was talking to someone.
"Oh right! (Y/n), this is Adam. Adam, (Y/n)."
"Hey, what's up man?" Adam asked me, holding out his hand.
"Nothing much." I said, shaking his hand. "Anyways, Kat can you come with me to Fall Cabin at six?"
"Sure. But why?"
"It's about why I missed class."
"Why can't you just tell me now?" Kat asked
"I just can't. Just...please come to Fall Cabin with me at six."
"Fine, fine! Only because I want to know why you missed class."
"So I'm gonna go sit with my friends over there for lunch, nice meeting you (Y/n), later Kat." Adam said, walking away.
"Oh thank god! He was so fucking annoying. He kept trying to show off that he could become a puddle. Like that's such horrible magic! What's the worse he can do? Get someone's socks wet? Wow, so scary!" Kat yelled, obviously annoyed. "I tried saying once that my best friend could become a fucking demon, but that asshole cut me off!"
"Alright Kat, let's calm down a bit." I said
"You're right. You're right. Can't let that asshole get in my head." Kat said, breathing in and out slowly. "Okay, I'm fine now."
"Good. I'm hungry."
"Hey assholes!" I heard Alexis yell from behind us. I turned around, and she ran right into me like she didn't see me.
"Why?!" I yell
"The bottom of your shirt is a little burnt. I have to pin you down to check for injuries, or else you would just deny everything." Alexis said, rolling up my my shirt, then my sleeves. "What happened to your arms?!"
"What do you mean?" I ask, looking at my arms. 'Shit, I guess I really didn't get my arms to turn in time.'
"Well? I'm waiting." Alexis said, crossing her arms.
"Fine, fine! Meet Kat and I at Fall Cabin at six o'clock."
"Why can't you tell me now?" Alexis asked, getting close to my face.
"I'm not going through this again, just do it." I said
"Alright fine. If I have too. But know this (L/n), if you don't explain to me why your shirt is burnt up, I will end your life."
"Yeah, sure. Like that'll ever happen. Now can you please get off me? People are staring."
Alexis looks around and stands up.
"What are you guys looking at?! Get to your next class or lunch!" Alexis yelled at them. All of them immediately disperse in a frenzy, trying not to upset her anymore then they already have.
"I always forget how many people in the school are scared of you." Kat said, starting to walk to the cafeteria. "You guys coming?"
"Yeah, I'm starving!" I said
"You're always hungry, (Y/n)." Alexis said
"You get me."
After getting our lunch, we sat down at our table.
"It's always just us three during this lunch." Kat said
"I like it, it's peaceful." I said "I kinda feel bad for Chloe though, she always sits by herself because everyone's scared of her. Too bad she isn't in this lunch, or else I'd invite her to sit with us."
"That's not my concern right now. The only thing I care about right now is getting this food in my stomach." Alexis said, picking up her soggy pizza. "On second thought...maybe I'll just go hungry until after school."
"Cafeteria food is always the worst. I think I'll just wait until Fall Cabin."
~Time Skip~
"It's almost six, where is everybody?" I asked myself, staring at my phone.
"Welcome to Fall Cabin, my name is Chloe Harper and I'll be your waitress today. Can I get you a drink to start?"
I look up and see it's Chloe. When she realizes that she's talking to someone who goes to the same school as her, her eyes widen.
"O-Oh...(Y/n)! Um...I'm just gonna go get you a different waitress." Chloe said, turning to walk away, but I grab her wrist.
"Why would you do that. Why can't you be my waitress?"
"Aren't you scared of me?" Chloe asked
"Not particularly, no." I said
"But...everyone is scared of me..."
"I know."
"You're...really not scared of me?" Chloe asked me, turning back towards me. "You've heard what people say about me, right? People call me a monster..."
"Well, you don't look like a monster to me. You look like a normal girl."
Chloe just stares at me, not knowing what to say.
"Now about that drink. I'll just have a water."
"U-Um, right! I'll be right back with that water for you." Chloe said, walking back to the kitchen as fast as she can.
"Where are they?" I asked myself again.
"Hey (Y/n)!" Alexis said, sitting down across from me.
"Hey Alexis."
"Kat isn't with you?"
"No, she said she had to go home to get money for food. I told her I'd pay for her, but she said I already do too much for her as it is." I explained
"Doesn't she hate her parents though?"
"Yeah, but she said tonight is usually their date night do it should be fine."
"You guys order without me?" Kat asked, sitting next to me.
"Speak of the devil." Alexis said
"Actually, (Y/n) is the devil." Kat said
"Get out. That was horrible. Leave." I said, pointing at the door.
"Alight, sorry, sorry." Kat said, holding his hands up.
"Here's your water (Y/n)." Chloe said, coming back with my water. "O-Oh, um...hi Alexis, Hi Kat."
"What's up Chloe. I'll have water too." Alexis said
"Um...right! What would you like Kat?" Chloe asked
"Can I have a chocolate milkshake?" Kat asked
"Sure. One water and one chocolate milkshake. I'll be right back with those." Chloe said, walking away.
"So, (Y/n), talk. Why was your shirt burnt?" Alexis asked
"Hold on, there's one more person meeting us." I said
"Who?" Kat asked
"You brought other people?!" A familiar voice yelled from the door. Luckily we were the only ones in the restaurant.
"Yeah, is that a problem?" I asked
"Yes! That's a very big problem!" Violet yelled, sitting down next to Alexis.
"Listen, they're my two best friends. Whatever you tell me, you can tell them."
"That's not what I'm worried abou-" Violet started, then took a deep breath. "You know what. Fine. If the think they can handle going face to face with death."
A/n: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE I'VE WRITTEN! I know it's taken me long time to update, and I'm sorry about that. Whenever people ask me to update, it makes me less motivated to update. So, I have a new policy about updating. Currently my schedule goes: Harem (Vol. 2), FTR (Fight the Resistance), Video Game Harem. So if Harem (Vol. 2) is scheduled to update and someone asks me to update it, I'll put it all the way to the end of my update schedule. I don't care if I'm almost done the chapter, it'll make me less motivated to update. So instead of Harem (Vol. 2), FTR, Video Game Harem, it'll become FTR, Video Game Harem, Harem (Vol. 2). If it's already the last one on the schedule to be updated, it'll be delayed a full schedule cycle. So, long story short, if you ask for a book to be updated, it'll go to the end of the schedule. Thanks for reading.
