Oli blinked, glancing around. "Why are you still writing stuff down? It's Saturday. No classes today, genius." The two were sat in the common room, which was otherwise empty.

Pix looked back at him with a slightly disbelieving expression. "How have you not heard- nobody's shut up about it." The brunette added with a laugh.

"How have I not heard about what?" Oli queried. I swear to god, I've been here for a few weeks and it still feels like I know nothing.

"The work experience thing." Pix said with an amused expression. "You know... head to the city and get some actual experience helping out the heroes for a few days."

Oli gasped. "Ohhh. That sounds really cool! So... why are you writing then?"

"Oh- you get to, uh, choose which hero you do your work experience with. At least, you get a first choice and then you hope you end up with that one. Have a look if you want, I was just trying to make sure the groups were somewhat even." Pix passed him the piece of paper and the pen. "Choose wisely."

Oli scanned the list quickly. Oh hey, Pix left notes with their powers. Neat.

Zombie Queen (able to absorb energy from broken or dead things and create things with it. She also has zombie hybrid heritage, hence the name inspiration)- False, FWhip, Lizzie

Solis (believed by many to be the living embodiment of the sun. Can manipulate light and temperature, which also can be used to manipulate plant growth)- Katherine, Gem

Enchanter (able to cast spells from his spellbook- a fairly common power, but he uses it well. Aided by magical crystals)- Shelby, Pix, Sausage

Tenebris (able to manipulate shadows. Also incredibly agile)- Joey, Joel

Aeternus (Aeternus is immortal- kind of. He's able to die multiple times, and he's also semi-resistant to explosions due to creeper hybrid heritage)- Jimmy, Scott

Oli paused, looking over them thoughtfully. I mean, none of them really have similar powers to me. And they all seem kind of cool.

"If you can't pick, I'd suggest closing your eyes and picking at random." Pix added with an amused expression, watching the blonde's struggles.

"Thanks for the advice." Oli shot back wryly. Uhhh- Aeternus sounds cool, I guess. The blonde decided internally, writing his name down. "Done!" He declared brightly, handing the pen and paper back to the brunette.

Pix glanced down the list briefly. "Oo, Aeternus. Good choice." His friend added, before pausing as Oli's phone, which the blonde had put down on the table in front of the two, started ringing loudly. "I think that might be for you, you know."

"Well done. Somebody's calling my phone? And they're calling me? So unexpected." Oli said with a laugh as Pix rolled his eyes. He picked up his phone, retreating into the boys' dorm, which was otherwise empty, and closing the door behind him before answering the call. "Hello?"

"Finally!" The voice rang out from his phone loudly and Oli winced slightly. It was Lauren. "You haven't spoken to me for ages. I assume that your fancy new hero school is taking up all your time?"

"Yeah! Sorry I haven't been talking to you. You're not mad, are you?" There was a long pause. "Lauren?"

"Yeah?" Lauren said quietly.

"Are you gonna answer, or-" Oli blinked as the black haired girl laughed.

"I did answer. Must be bad signal or something." There was another pause. "Sooo- what are your classmates like? Made any new friends?"

"Yes, actually! There's Pix- he can like, tell how old something is and when it's gonna break, he's class president, he's cool- and then there's Jimmy- who can blow stuff up by looking at it, also I think he and my other friend Scott miiiight be dating- and then Joel can like- fly and control the weather. There's a bunch of other people as well, with really cool powers. False seems pretty cool as well, she can metal bend. Metal bending! It's awesome." Oli paused. "Uhhhh, what else-"

"I think we'd be here all day if you listed off all of your new friends. Which there are clearly a lot of." Lauren added, and it sounded like she was speaking through gritted teeth. Maybe that's just the signal. Also... was I meant to hear that last bit?

"Yep," was all that Oli could manage before Lauren continued talking (something about an upcoming festival- that everyone in Oli's class was required to attend as a school trip or something- that her parents were helping to plan).

"And then they're going to-" Lauren broke off with a startled yelp. "Dexter! Dexter, no, what are you- HEY! THOSE ARE MINE, STOP CHEWING THOSE!" Oli laughed as he heard Lauren's struggle with her dog Dexter.

"Uh... you okay?" The blonde asked cautiously.

"I will, let me just- give me that- oh, thank god. Bad dog." Lauren added to Dexter. "Sorry about that. Dexter thought it would be fun to start eating- chewing, I guess?- the brand new shoes that I got yesterday. Literally yesterday. I guess you can't have nice things and have a dog." Oli's friend added with a dramatic sigh. "It's one or the other."

"I guess so, yeah." Oli said with a laugh, pausing as he heard a noise outside. "Uhhh- one sec, Lauren." He added, muting himself on the call and peeking into the dorm room to see Shelby having a very loud argument with Joey about who knows what. Pix was stood nearby, hopelessly attempting to break up the argument, and Katherine, who was watching with an anxious expression, looked just as confused as Oli felt.

"Uh... Oli? You there? Helloooo?" Oli took a step back into the boys dorm, shutting the door behind him and unmuting himself.

"Sorry about that. Shelby and Joey are arguing. Again." Oli added with a laugh. He winced as he heard the sound of something breaking and a frustrated shout. "Oh, that sounds bad. I'm just gonna go and, uh- have a proper look and see what the hell is going on. Bye."

"Wait-" Lauren's protest was cut off as Oli ended the call.
