Chapter 3 - Help

Hey everyone! I was aiming for as little A/Ns as possible, but this one is needed. I am so sorry for how late this is. I haven't had the time or motivation for chapters, so I've been writing it slowly.

I originally wasn't planning on putting this fic to Wattpad until it was completed, but I was pressured into it by my ex, who said she wanted to read this (even though she wasn't and isn't a Killjoy). I told her to read from my Word Document, but she wanted it uploaded. And yes, Midnight Marauder is her Killjoy, and I am basing them off of each other, but don't trash on the character, please.

The way I write this is, because I was originally planning on leaving publishing this fic until it was finished, I have a couple of chapters written, but not edited, every time I upload. Currently I'm on chapter 6, but there are 5 lines and a word written for that.

Tell me of any grammar errors you see :D

Now, without further ado, here is the chapter~

"Where do we start?" I asked as I got on my bike. I had my travel backpack on, filled with extra supplies. I had an old med-kit, some Power Pups, two bottles of water and some spare clothes. We didn't know her state, and I don't want to come un-prepared.

"Zone Two? I think she might've gotten to the outskirts at least by now, hopefully..." Midnight replied, unsure of her answer, probably wishing this girl was strong enough for the journey. Zone 1 was a hot spot for Draculoids, it's closest to Battery City and they (surprise surprise) don't want us there.

I just agreed, and we set off.

I don't know exactly how long it took for us to get to the picket fence between Zone 1 and 2, but it felt longer than it should. That feeling when you're impatient or bored, when you're waiting for something to happen, or when you're worried. I was anxious to say the least, this girl could be seriously injured or in a bad state. We needed to help in any way we could.

We reached the area where the first and second Zones meet and start to look around. After talking about plans for a couple of minutes, the two of us decided on splitting up and meeting back in about half an hour. I kissed her cheek and smiled as we said our quick goodbyes.

Turning on the radio (for music and updates from Newsagogo), I set off to find Crystal Dove.

Sand flew up from behind my bike as I raced around, looking for the mysterious girl. My brain was filled with questions, eating away at any other thoughts.

'Who is this girl?'

'Is she hurt?'

'Is she dead?"

I was worried about her. She could be completely fine for all I know, and that's all that comforted me. My radio was playing, although it was quiet with the background noise of my bike.

After a little while, I reached my destination. Gazing upon it, I saw the cramped, worn building that many Killjoys are grateful for. A shelter for those who have just escaped the city, but also a meet-up spot for those who are just about to enter the city once more. Many use it just before raids or whatever reason they'd be in the city.

I stepped into the room, only to be faced with a young girl on the floor. All over her body she had cuts and bruises, seemingly nothing major; it was the kind of injuries that look bad, but you know they're not. City clothes covered her skin: a light grey cardigan over a white shirt, paired with black pants. She'll overheat, so we'll need to find her something else to wear soon. Short, dark brown hair was tied behind her head to keep it from falling in her eyes. Slow breaths entered and escaped her mouth, assuring me she was alive still.

Kneeling beside her, I examined her injuries closer. The movement seemed to wake her, as her eyes fluttered opened and a groan of pain escaped her lips. Her eyes saw me, and my presence seemed to scare the poor girl. She tried shuffling away from me, but I held her hand to stop her. Fear sparked behind her eyes.

She became the first to speak, though her voice was croaky and tired. "Wh-o are y-ou?"

I didn't expect this to be the first thing she'd say, but I understood and answered, nonetheless. "I'm Blackout Crypt. I'm a killjoy, like you, and I came here to help. I'm guessing you're Crystal Dove?"

Though I didn't expect this to be her first question, I supplied an answer, nonetheless. "Don't worry, I'm a Killjoy like you. I'm Blackout Crypt. You're Crystal Dove, yeah?"

Her answer was a nod, weak and pained.

"I have medical supplies, Crystal. I will have to take you back to my base, though, because you seem to have some broken bones, but before that I can patch up some of the easy things." I put on my best reassuring smile, but I'm not sure it helped. || "I've got a med-kit, Crystal. I don't think anything's broken; I'm hoping there isn't anything broken. I'll have to patch you up, and it's gonna sting. Is that okay?"

"Y-eah."

The wounds she had were mostly small, a deep gash here and there (I'm guessing from broken glass). There were burns on her arms, one on her back, from the stun setting on a gun. Damn, they went easy on this kid. Once I had cleaned and bandaged what I could, I spoke again.

"I'm gonna need to take you back t' base. You're pretty banged up, and you gotta stay somewhere for them to heal; even if it's one night. I can't just leave you here."

"O-okay." She was scared, I knew it. Her tone told me she of her uncertainty, her fear for coming with me. I didn't want her to be scared, she didn't need to be.

"Don't worry," I assured her. "I'm not gonna hurt you. You're one of us, remember? We help each other out."

While we waited for the time to pass, we talked. I learnt about her, she learnt about me. In the city, she used to have family: a mother, father, and a sister. She was orphaned at 16, the only one left after a car crash. At one point, she almost told me her name, but I stopped her before she could. I didn't want to know.

Once I realised the time, I picked the young girl up, literally, and brought her to my dirt bike so I could set her down safely. We would be pushed together a little awkwardly, but it was the best I could do.

Midnight was waiting for us, and she looked up as soon as she heard the engine of my bike. Her face lit up, her smile warming my heart.

Middy softens me, weakens me. She makes me affectionate. Her presence in my life is a weakness, I couldn't bear to be without her. But she makes me strong, keeps me alive, keeps me fighting. Just the thought of her is enough to keep me going. I love her so fucking much.

"Oh my God you found her!" Midnight exclaimed, excited.

"Yeah, and she hurt. We gotta get back."

Midnight nodded, and we set off back home. I decided to put the radio on to break the silence between us. 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' began playing through our speakers. It's one of my favourites, and it's definitely not played enough.

I mumbled the lyrics subconsciously, moving my head to the beat and concentrating on the twists of the road.

Our drive home was quite quiet, in terms of Draculoids that is. Usually there'd at least be a straggler that we'd shoot once and take anything useful. I was genuinely concerned, and Middy looked it too. Crystal was oblivious, but I don't blame her. She was probably really exhausted, and I don't know how long she'd ever spent out in the Zones. She could've been taken only weeks after she first got out here, or she could've lived here for years. I don't know, but I want to.

By the time we had gotten back to the base, it was the afternoon. I don't know what time, maybe one o' clock? Could be after way after, but it doesn't matter. The main point is that we were home.

I laid Crystal Dove on the couch and went through a few procedures that I had been taught by my mom. I checked her pulse (with a little difficulty, I had no machinery or equipment), asked what hurt, and some other medical things. I told her to stay laying down, so she did just that.

Crystal fell asleep after a bit, and the room fell silent.

"Babe?" I asked.

"Yeah?"

"Want me to get dinner ready?"

"Sure. If you can even call it that..."

Kissing her cheek, I shrugged and went to the cupboard, getting out three cans this time. Boy, we're going to need more food if Crystal Dove's staying.

I put the cans on the table and went over to Midnight.

I kissed her cheek and smiled at her, holding her hands.

"We saved someone," I smiled, tearing up slightly, "I've never done that before."

"You saved me." Midnight replied quietly.

"How?"

"Without you I'd probably be dust or something... Losing my parents hit me hard."

I kissed her, my hands moving to her waist.

"I'm glad I helped."
