Fame & Glory

"Should I even ask?" Elliott's voice was even, but it was obvious that he was alarmed.

Right across the screen was a headline that read: Meet Christian Grey's girlfriend, who is also shared by another.

I flinched at the nasty title. I had not given the paparazzi much thought. Between Christian's mercurial tempers and my professional life, it was simply a concern that I had not had the time to grow. If I was being honest, I was barely even certain if Christian wanted to bring us into the public light. I always knew he liked to be private, and all the women in his life were kept in the shadows.

Of course, Christian had taken me on a few flashy dates at beautiful restaurants or at iconic locations. So naturally, we had eyes tailing us. After watching Kate scroll through the expose, I suppose they had been watching for a while, building a case on me only to coincidentally fall into the scenario of Ethan.

"Anastasia Steele was said to have spent the night at the unknown man's house. They were seen leaving in the late morning with a glow and proceeding to cozy up at a hole in the wall cafe for a lazy lunch." Kate read aloud.

"With a glow?" I rolled my eyes. "Clearly suggestive writing."

"Where was this?" Kate pointed at the picture of Ethan holding my hand over the table.

I remembered the moment. I had been about to cry, and he had reached across for a brief second of comfort. A sinking feeling filled me as I thought of what Christian would make of this. I could imagine his fiery anger.

"Cecilia." Ethan told her.

I threw him a look of concern, knowing full well that hell would come down upon him on this one. Hell being a single Christian Trevelyan Grey. But Ethan's body language had not budged at all. He was still cool, calm and collected. In fact, he seemed a little distracted by the lint on his trousers.

Elliott cleared his throat. There was clearly a huge ball of discomfort somewhere in his throat. "Come on, guys. Do you want to explain this to me so I can disarm the massive bomb?"

Ethan sighed, big and loud. His eyes moved from one corner to the other with exaggerated slowness. "We don't owe anyone an explanation."

"Ana?" Elliott tried, although he was clearly annoyed by Ethan's lacklustre response.

I caught Elliott's icy glaze and bit down on my lip subconsciously. I knew that Christian would be too far gone to listen to logic. He was madly possessive and that little picture really did make it seem like Ethan and I were in love. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Kate lean towards Ethan.

"D-did you guys?" She tried to whisper, but everyone in the room caught her words.

Ethan gave her a smirk.

"You dog!" Kate snapped but she had a wide grin.

"Wait what?" Elliott's voice rose octaves. He looked at me and Ethan alternately, almost accusatory. "There's no way..."

I caught the sneaky look Ethan gave me and was immediately in on it. It was a look that said, so what? Exactly. So what if I had indeed done the deed with Ethan? Who was Christian to care? If he had cheated on me with an ex, why would he have the right to care about who I was sleeping with?

"Ana, tell me he's joking."

"So what?" I said gently. Not even directed at Elliott, but at the whole situation in itself.

"What do you mean?" Elliott took a few steps towards me, his palms raised in anxiety. "Are you and Ethan together?"

"So what?" Ethan joined in.

Elliott was at a loss for words. His mouth opened, but nothing came out. There was stale air in the room as silence hung in the air. Kate's eyes were wide open as she cocked her head to really look at the brother. Elliott had no idea if we were telling the truth.

Then, I heard it.

There was muted shouting, raise voices. Hurried footsteps quickly approaching. Each of us picked up on the corridor commotion one by one, turning our attention to the massive double doors of our suite. The noise grew louder and I felt a sense of dread befall me.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Of course.

"ETHAN KAVANAGH!" Christian boomed, accompanied by a few softer high pitch voices. His voice was so loud that his words penetrated through the thick wooden doors.

My eyes remained fixed on Ethan, but he seemed unbothered. He leaned against the arm rest and rolled his head around, releasing a satisfying cracking noise. It almost seemed like he had been preparing for this battle for a while now. I found it a little curious, but his composure brought a strange sense of calm to me as well.

"Ethan, please tell me the truth, or I really can't help you." Elliott pleaded.

Ethan turned to him and shook his head dismissively. "I don't need help."

Kate grabbed Ethan's arm, giving it a squeeze. "What are you trying to do?"

Ethan gave her one long hard stare before shrugging. "What I should have done a long time ago."

What did he mean?

The banging ensued for a little longer and then there was silence. Then, there was a little beep and the double doors were pushed open with great force.

Christian Grey himself in the flash strolled into the room, his chest high, his shoulders squared, and his eyes dark. He did not look around the room, no, he looked straight at Ethan. If looks could kill, Ethan would have been dead. We all watched as Christian closed the distance, and as if on cue, Ethan rose to his feet.

As I watched the man I still loved close in on one of my closest friends, I felt my breathing quicken.

"Christian." Elliott tried to break Christian's concentration, stepping in his path.

Christian shoved Elliott to the side, continuing on his journey.

"Oh my god." I heard Kate mutter.
