Checkmate
"Checkmate!" I chuckled. "Sorry!" I beat Citron again.
Citron groaned. "Damn it, Viper!"
I laughed. "Again?"
"Damn right!" Citron reset the board.
I knew he came for more than just Chess but he never really talked until the third game. He had to work up to it.
We were in the middle of the third game. "So..What's up with you and Peri?"
I wanted to hide. I looked down. "Nothing."
Citron chuckled. "Sure. Did you know that when you are lying or embarrassed you look down?"
My head snapped up. "No! Do not and I don't lie!"
Citron laughed. "Sure!" He chuckled for a minute. "So, you have no feelings toward Peri?"
I shook my head. I was a bad liar.
"You suck at lying!" Citron glared at me. "I'm a friend, the truth."
I sighed. "He's interesting."
"Am I?" Citron raised an eyebrow.
"Sure?"
"But I'm not as interesting." Citron was pushing it.
"What am I supposed to say, Citron? I'm the enemy. He will always hate me." I sighed. Always.
"I'm sorry." Citron watched me. "Your turn."
I moved and my mind was somewhere else through the game and I lost. I just didn't care. Citron celebrated anyway and I just laughed at his silly dance.
When he left me alone, I wallowed in my self pity and my thoughts of Peri. I missed him when he wasn't here but...I'm a vampire. I hated them so much for destroying my life. It had been a couple months since I rescued them and I did as Peri told me. I stayed away but I hated it.
I missed that man like air.
Citron smiled at me with a worried expression. "He will come around. I'm waiting for him to get back to his old self. He's been off lately so have some patience. Okay?"
I nodded. "Okay." I would wait a century for Peri.
***********************************************************************
This is a tiny chapter of just Citron and me. It's just one of many meetings that we have. We talk a lot but I thought it would be boring to post all of them. But this was my favorite conversation.
I hope you are enjoying this story. Thanks for reading.
