8.

Admiring my wand, I walked along the main street, smiling and laughing slightly when people would steer out of my way when they would notice the wand in my hand. Some warily and some a bit fearful.

"Oh, come" I would say to those who would stare at me, giggling innocently, raising my wand. "I'm a first year. I don't even know any spell. Yet. This is my first wand, can't I be happy for it?"

Still, people wouldn't trust me with words. Was it the expression on my face? Pff, but I was an angel!

This happiness had also made me forget those stupid words those people would aim at me. Even hearing one, my expression would shift and point my wand at them.

That definitely shut them up.

I was about to put away my wand when a woman told me to be careful with it and I paused, looking at my wand curiously. That made the woman to walk away. Yeah, the less you know the better.

"How would you work if I don't know any spell?" I sing sang, amused as to the people who heard my rhetorical question hurried away horrified. I giggled and waved at them with my free hand.

Then, I made my way to a hidden corner of a bookshop named Flourish and Blotts which was also a weird name.

I twirled my wand between my fingers which I thought looked cool and tilted my head, waving my wand toward a pile of books. A blue light shot from my wand and hit the books turning them to candy.

I gaped like a fish, staring between the candybooks and my wand. I was just thinking about sweets! I didn't know that was going to happen. "Woah. That was unexpected"

"Nah, I'll give you an eight" I heard someone say casually from behind me. I whirled around, wide eyed with a busted expression but suddenly it morphed to an indifferent expression and a huff when I noticed it was a boy around my age who caught me. His hair was messy and dark brown, hazel brown eyes sparkling with amusement behind a rounded pair of glasses. "For that spell without any spell in mind. Maybe when you know how to use properly your wand you'd get a ten"

I huffed, unaware that my hair had turned purple. "Oh, I'm sorry. Go ahead if you can do that better"

I gestured at him and toward another pile of books.

He puffed his chest, tapping it slightly with arrogance, "Watch and learn, peasant"

My lips twitched with amusement as the boy waved his wand lazily toward the pile of books I pointed. The books suddenly turned to feathers, floating to the ground slowly.

I burst out laughing at his pouting expression. "Oh, my God. Was that better?"

The boy rolled his eyes, "Ah, that was... I didn't want to make fun of you. That's it"

I giggled, "It'd would have been easy because I had no idea of any of this a few months ago" I pointed at around us with a shrug. "Besides, give me some credit, I didn't hurt anyone"

The boy frowned, looking at me up and down, specifically to what I was wearing. "Yeah, you don't look like a witch. You're a muggleborn"

"That's what Dumbles called me" I nodded.

"Dumbles" The boy repeated, amused.

"Ah, sorry" I grimaced, "Professor Dumbledore"

The boy chuckled, "I see"

It was my turn to look at him up and down. "You do look like a wizard. Not fair"

"Why?" He asked in amusement, raising his wand, twirling it over his fingers "Because I'd win easily over a dueling stance competence?"

He took upon a weird stance, holding his wand in front of himself, sticking his tongue out in concentration.

I gasped, "Are those real?"

He made a face, standing normally, "Obviously no. Wow, you actually grew with muggles"

"Hope that wasn't an insult" I said with a frown, pointing at him with my wand.

He smiled, "Nah, it was an observation" We smiled. "I like you"

"Thank you!" I said, curtseying dramatically.

We just stared at each other, just blinking.

"That was fun" He said after a moment of silence.

"A lot of fun" I added, flipping a strand of hair, focusing hard so it would turn back to brown in the movement, grinning when my hair obeyed me.

He blinked in amazement, "Woah! Your hair's color changed to brown!"

"What?" I asked, chuckling "Did you think purple was a normal color?"

"We have magic" he said as if that was obvious "Purple hair isn't that uncommon. Unless it does what yours did"

Huh. Maybe that's why I wasn't getting that much looks when I had pink hair while trying on my robes.

"Ah, makes sense" I nodded. "Though sometimes I forget it changes, unless someone points it out" he nodded in understanding. I cleared my throat, "My name is Kate Grant, young sir, eh, I mean wizard" I used a fake posh voice, smiling.

The boy smiled, clearing his throat and formally bowing, exaggerating and almost touching the ground, "Pleasure to become your accquaintace, Lady Grant. I'm the wonderful and very handsome James Potter"

I laughed, "Should I have curtseyed, your majesty?" I asked innocently. James raised an eyebrow "'Cause I'm not certain you deserve it"

James frowned and pouted, "Rude" I giggled "But no, er, it is not necessary"

"I know, I just wanted to say that" I blinked, shrugging casually. "Guess now I can cross that off my 'to-do' list"

James remained quiet for a few seconds, blinking a couple of times. I tried to mimic him, blinking before a mischievous expression crossed my eyes as I focused.

James widened his eyes, gasping "What the bloody hell..."

In front of him, I could see that he was seeing a copy of himself.

Another amazement of my metamorphmagic abilities. I could transform into other people. That's mostly what the professor meant about being able to change my appearance. I could change my entire body to look like someone else, something I learned by accident a few weeks ago while trying to mimic Mike when he was mimicking me.

"I'm sorry. You were quiet for so long" I apologized, my voice sounding almost exactly like James' voice. It surprised me as well. "Had to do something to get you to talk"

James huffed a laugh, walking closer, "That really is amazing" He said, observing me... well, himself "Do I look this pretty?"

I rolled my eyes, focusing and feeling myself turning to me. "Phew. Better this way"

James shook his head, amused. "I mean, I was born in this world but still, what magic is capable of, I don't think I'll ever get used to it"

"Right?" I asked, smiling.

"What I was thinking though, is that I really like you" James stated. I made a face. He narrowed his eyes, trying to mimic me "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"

I gasped, "Are you trying to mimic me?" I placed a hand in my chest as if offended. "I am the Queen of mimicking people, and my brother does it better than you"

James shook his head, his glasses sliding down his nose that he had to push them up. "Alright. But I mean it. Other people wouldn't have played along with me. They run away as if I'm crazy"

I chuckled sarcastically, "Oh, but you are crazy"

"Takes a crazy to know another crazy" James pointed out, grinning.

I pointed back at him, smiling "Touché"

But what he was saying was true. If someone else had found me instead of James, this would have never happened. I would have been dragged back to my mum while listening to 'This kid is crazy, oh my God. Someone needs to calm her down'. But no, James played along, it was as if we understood each other. We could be friends, right? He looks cool.
