It wasn't that difficult to imagine that I was a witch. At least now after the professor explaining everything. Thinking about it now, since I can remember, strange things had been happening around me, starting from the times my porcelain dolls I really liked when little (which I still did but I kinda respect them because they're a little creepy) would float to me when they weren't at my reach, and I wanted to play with them. When I would get angry at school when those kids would bother me, their pencils and colors would be thrown away and the wind. I always thought those would be coincidences and that magic didn't exist. But now, looking at the old professor patiently observe our reactions with a kind smile and a bit of curiosity, I knew he wasn't lying.

I was an actual witch and magic did exist!

"Incredible" Dad breathed out, looking at me with a grin. "Alright" he turned to mum for her input, but she was already smiling, shrugging. He turned to Mike who grinned and then dad turned to me. "Okay, little one. If that's what you want"

I smiled widely, "YAY!" I jumped up and down before I stopped abruptly, "Wait!"

They winced a bit at my sudden mood shift.

"Kate" mum scolded when I grabbed the equipment and book list.

I gave her an innocent smile "Sorry" I turned to the professor, raising the lists. "Where am I supposed to find all this? I don't suppose there's a shop nearby with witch stuff"

The professor smiled, "Ah, I've been waiting that question. That's easy. You'll find what you need in Diagon Alley"

"And where is it? This Alley of diagons " I asked before he could continue.

The professor chuckled in amusement, "Patience, Miss. Grant. Diagon Alley is found at the Leakey Caldron, it's a magical place. Not a lot of muggles can see it because it's enchanted, but with muggleborns, there's always the exception, so you will be able to go in there Mrs Grant"

I blinked up at the professor innocently as he gave me a pointed look. It was as if he was thinking I was planning on going myself and cause all kind of troubles.

Ha! As if.

Well, I did think about it... But he can't prove it!

"Thank you, professor" Mum told him in relief.

The professor stood, prompting dad to do the same. "Hope I answered most of your doubts"

"I'm sure we'll have more soon" Dad said chuckling. "But thank you for explaining all this to us"

"No problem" The professor said with a smile, "Now, if you excuse me. I must go. More letters to muggleborns to hand and headmaster stuff to do"

"Sounds boring" I remarked.

The professor chuckled, "It can be. But not when you treat it as an adventure" True. "Well then, I see you at Hogwarts coming September. I believe you'll be a great student"

"Goodbye professor, have a good journey" I said waving at him.

Dad walked him to the door, exchanging a few words before the professor left.

"Well, that was certainly interesting" Mike told us.

"The best birthday ever" I exclaimed, turning to face my family with blonde, straight hair.

Dad laughed but nodded, "Indeed. And you still have a few more hours of your birthday. What do you want to do?"

I exchanged a look with my brother, "Movie night!" We exclaimed at the same time.

Mum smiled. "Movie night it is"

~8~

Best birthday ever.

Learning I'm a witch, getting storybooks from the Brothers Grimm, a pretty bracelet and a movie night filled with comedy and horror movies was the definition of the perfect day.

A few weeks had passed since the professor revealed I was a witch. There were still a few months before September but I was already excited of going.

However, there was a tiny detail.

We forgot to ask the professor where the Leaky Cauldron was.

"I can't believe you forgot to ask" Mum scolded, shaking her head.

Mike smiled in amusement.

"Well, dear mum. I was surprised to hear I was a witch" I defended myself. "It's normal I'd forget a few little details" I pouted, crossing my arms "And it's not like you couldn't ask either, so its not only my fault"

Dad walked to the kitchen, a weirded-out expression in his face holding an envelope. We turned to him expectantly.

"Er, I didn't know owls delivered mail" Dad said slowly, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Owls?" Mum repeated skeptically, walking to him, grabbing the envelope from his hands. She paused, looking up "It's for you, Katie"

I raised my eyebrows surprised, accepting the letter and seeing that yes, indeed it said my name in elegant cursive letters.

I opened the letter and read. I chuckled. "It's from the professor" I announced, handing them the letter, "He'll be taking us to Diagon Alley in a few weeks"

"Isn't this a coincidence?" Mike asked, narrowing his eyes. "We just were talking about how to get there and suddenly this letter shows up"

I wriggled my fingers at him, speaking with a mysterious voice, "It's called magic, Mikey"

"Your professor is nice to do this for us" Mum told me with a slight smile. "He must be a busy man and he's taking some of his time to help us get used to this world"

"He's the headmaster, mum" Mike pointed out, rolling his eyes "Not shortie's professor"

"Wait" I raised a hand, "How do you know he's not my professor? He could teach a class there for all I know!"

"I read your acceptance letter" Mike told me slowly as if talking to a baby. I scrunched my nose at him as if to ask 'what letter?'. "The one he handed to you, Kate"

Ah, that letter. "It said he's the headmaster?"

"Kate" Mike groaned in exasperation. "He explained that to you. Weren't you listening?" Eh, probably not. "I swear. He was talking to you and you're going to that school. You have to know this stuff"

"Whatever" I rolled my eyes, "I just read, 'we are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry'. He already introduced himself, why would I read all his titles he had on the letter, why would I fill my brain with that useless information?"

Dad sighed in amusement. "Hopefully you don't have that attitude in your classes and think everything is useless"

Mike pointed at me, "Knowing her, that's exactly what's going to happen and will get in all sort of troubles for not reading well"

I looked at him, unamused "Of course I read and will pay attention"

"Because you're doing so well in the one you're currently at" Mike said sarcastically.

I stuck my tongue at him.

"Kids!" Mum exclaimed, frowning.

I pointed at my brother, accusingly. "He started it"

"He started it" Mike mimicked me, using a high pitched voice and moving his hands while he made his way to the stairs, laughing.

"I don't talk like that" I exclaimed, almost offended. "And aren't you supposed to be the oldest? How mature of you, Michael!"

"How mature of you, Michael" Mike mimicked from the stairs, amused.

I groaned, turning to my parents who looked like they were trying not to laugh "Aren't you going to say something to him? He's being mean"

Dad cleared his throat, looking away, whistling innocently.

I scoffed, placing a hand in my chest and looking as if that hurt. The betrayal!

Mum smiled but pursed her lips to hide it, "He gets a free pass, sweetie" I narrowed my eyes in disbelief "For the shampoo"

I pouted.

Yeah, then I think he indeed gets a pass.
