Quiet Passion, Loud Effort (Basile/Gira)

As everyone headed back to their classrooms, Olivia lost Reiji in the midst of the crowd when she received a tap on the shoulder. A lady of similar skin color but in brainy hairstyles, a gas mask over her nose and mouth, a stylish cap, and characters on her yellow-pink shirt made her eyes widen.

"Gira?"

"Selene, in the flesh," using a text to speech app and the two hugged. "Didn't think we'd both be here."

Olivia almost cried. "I'd thought it'd be hard to make a new friend."

"We've never had the same class. Must've been hell for you right?" Olivia's dreamy nods confirmed it, while she took out a paper showing they were in the same class. "Won't happen again."

Olivia's hug was much stronger to the point Gira had to tap out, wheezing so bad she needed to take a deep breath. "I'm good. Besides, now you've got a boyfriend too. Told ya it would happen."

"Boyfriend? Reiji? No, I just met him again this morning. He's so different from before."

"Well he liked you right?"

Olivia had to think about it. He did say he thought she was amazing. "For now, we're just probably friends."

Gira pinched her cheeks. "Lame, lame, coward, lame. You've gotta seal the deal fast before you lose him."

"At least your haiku's are improving." The two of them had a quick laugh until both of them were knocked down by a much larger and lankier guy who called them out for blocking the hall.

"Dickhead," Gira typed.

"Which one of you hallway attention whores said that?!"

The guy was about to step on them when Reiji arrived in front of Olivia. Their attacker wasn't scared at him all, but shrieked, running from the guy next to him. While he helped her up, the guy who lifted Gira up had burn marks over parts of his face and chin, almost making him drop her.

"Basile?"

"Oh hey, I was looking for you. What were you doing on the floor? I was going to try and make more friends." His voice was silent, but soft-spoken, though Reiji could barely hear him.

"You didn't see," trying not to get caught up in the mood, "what happened?"

He shook his head. "Was he trying to mess with you? I shouldn't have left you alone. You want me to carry you to class?"

"Well it's tempting I admit, but let me speak to Olivia more."

He nodded and put her down, awkwardly trying to greet her friend with a weak wave. His skin tone matched Olivia and Gira's but had a similar build to Reiji. But Basile took one look at him and scowled, walking away, and leaving the other boy both confused and nervous.

"Did you know him," Olivia asked.

Reiji shook his head. "I don't think so. Gira is it, could I try and talk with him?"

Gira gave him the thumbs up and he ran after Basile. Olivia swooned at how he held her up, almost wishing Reiji did the same for her.

"Wait, did you finally ask him out?"

She brushed her hair rather confidently. "I am his girlfriend," she typed. "He just doesn't know that yet."

For someone who chose to be mute, she was pretty cheeky.

The two headed to the rest of their class with their formalities in place. The orientation they had went to earlier gave them enough understanding of what to do, and with gym being their final period, things seemed to be smooth sailing.

That was until their gym teacher told them about the requirements for the class. They had to do the pacer test, and anyone who couldn't get past ten would have to do strict, intense training while everyone else got to participate in the actual activities.

Olivia and Gira nervously gulped at one another, and immediately asked Reiji and Basile for training. They only had the weekend left.
