"Practice Writing Setting"
Birds whistled and sang in their perches above the gardens, only to be interrupted by the squelching of mud. Squirrels ceased their chittering, bristly tails signalling to each other across trees and bushes. Nature's choir hesitated to sing again, allowing the cicadas to screech with the summertime hum of mosquitoes. The sun's misplaced beams of light warmed hidden shadows in an attempt for the world to reach homeostasis of torturous heat. Dehydrated and exhausted from waiting to assess whether the squelching sound belonged to a threat, songbirds rushed from the rainbow of green leaves to the bright, mirror-like water of a birdbath. Busy streaks of reflected light from the bath blinded the squirrels that were draped on branches like wet laundry.
While water droplets flew around the small bath, rabbits sought shelter from the looming peak temperatures in the dust baths. Their fur blending into the dirt after rolling around kicking up clouds into the flowery bushes like mist. The sunset petals hardly resembled the evening sky after the miniature dust storm. However, the sweet aroma of the flowers was still noticeable by the rabbit's twitching nose as it no longer huffed dust from its nostrils. Other rabbits followed suit, making their own trenches under the flowers with a little bit of digging and rolling. The dirt caught in their mouths was flavoured with the feverish wrath of Mother Nature. The rabbits watched the squirrels reluctantly scurry down tall trunks to investigate dripping of the garden hose, turning the cracked dirt into squishy mud.
