Chapter 85 - Hidden Surprises
"I think I hear them." You said excitedly as you neared the amphitheater and you heard a faint hint of music.
"Come on." You said as you quickly headed to the direction of the music as you pulled Ignis along the way.
Ignis smiled at you and quickly followed your lead as you both moved through the crowd and headed to the grass field in front of the stage. As soon as you reached the clearing on the walkway your felt your heart start to race as you saw the band on stage. You tightened your grip on Ignis' hand and gave him a huge smile.
"Oh my six. That's my brother's favorite band." You said as a tear threatened to fall. "I can't believe that their still performing . I haven't seen them in forever."
"Did your brother know them?" Ignis said asked as you started to hum along to the song that they were playing.
"I don't know if he actually got to meet them in person or anything." You said as you closed your eyes and started to get lost in the music as you started to move to the rhythm. "But he would try to be at every single show they did."
"Sounds like he was a big fan of theirs." Ignis said as he watched you start to dance in front of him while still holding his hand.
"He's not the only one." You said as you met his gaze as you grabbed his other hand.
Then you moved in closer to him and gave him a smile. He smiled back and quickly took the lead and started to move you through a semi fast and seductive dance. He had you do a quick spin before he pulled you back in for a sensual dance. That had him pressed up hard against you as he practically grinded against you in a sexy salsa dance.
Then during a slow bit of the song, he bent you halfway back as he slowly swayed you in front of him before he brought you back up. You gave him an erotic smile as you came back up and meet his gaze again. He gave you the same look as his eyes darkened when you slid one hand through his hair as you moved your lips within an inch of his.
Then he practically gasped as you moved back and into the quick fast pace again. You couldn't help the heat that you felt rising up in you as he touched and danced around with you. For each smooth note brought you closer to him. Only to be teased as you moved away again as the rhythm picked back up again.
You never once took your eyes off of him as you watched his eyes get darker and darker with each step and movement. But you didn't want to see anything other than him. Which lead to a very intense and beautiful dance as you both were practically devouring each other through the dance moves. And you couldn't help but to want more as you were on the verge of moaning each time he held you close before speeding back up again. Which seemed to be exactly what he wanted too.
The crowd around both of you seemed to disappear as they moved back and watched the two of you dancing across the grass in your own world. Which is why you didn't notice any of them as they started to pull out their phones and take pictures and record the two of you as you danced. The only thing you noticed was Ignis and how you he felt each time you touched. And the only thing you heard was his breathing as he almost lost his breath each time you were against him.
You lost all concept of time and area awareness as the song seemed to take control over everything as you moved across the grass as the two of you danced. You didn't hear the people around you as they admired the two of you. But you could hear your heart in your chest as it was beating as fast as the drums. While your breathing matched his with each breath.
It wasn't until the last note was played that left you up against his chest with your lips within an inch of his as you both panted as you tried to catch your breath. You were slowly sliding your hand up and around his neck as you sought out his enchanting kiss. When you were reminded of where you were as the crowd erupted around you. But even that was only in a slight hush as he seemed to take control himself as he slid his hand up your arm as he pulled you closer as he leaned in and gently placed his lips on yours.
Immediately the whole world disappeared again as he tenderly kissed you. You brought your other arm up and wrapped it around his neck as well as you gave him a tender kiss back. He then slid one hand across your upper back while the other one pulled you closer as it held you in by the small of your back. You pressed harder against him as he held you close.
Then you slowly pulled away as the band started the next song. Ignis smiled at you as he held you. Then he slowly started to dance with you again as you both smiled at each other as the song filled the air. You beamed at him as you watched his eyes turn pitch black as he smiled at you as he took you through a very passionate and intense dance once again.

Your smile seemed to be permanent as you both smoothly danced around as you were once again lost in the music. For it seemed that the two of you were the only ones to exist in the world as you danced to please the other. From each spin and step of the fast tempo. To him moving you back in as he held you close as he moved you though the slower parts. Each touch and movement seemed to ignite your desire to see him start to come unraveled once again.
The crowd watched the two of you in awe as you moved smoothly to the rhythm. Many of them had out their phones and were recording the two of you as you danced. While others simply enjoyed watching the two of you bring the song to life through dance. Several of them were talking to each other as they watched.
"Wow. Look at them go." One woman said to her boyfriend.
"They must be professionals." Her boyfriend replied.
"That's so intense." Another man said in awe to his girlfriend.
"I wish we could dance like them." His girlfriend replied.
As the song ended, you could hear the crowd as they erupted once again. But this time several people started talking to the two of you. Which threw you off. You hadn't expected the crowd to be applauding you.
"That was amazing." One woman said as she held her boyfriend's hand.
"Yeah." The boyfriend said. "I wish we could dance like that."
"Thanks." You replied.
"Why not take some lessons then." Ignis said as he held you close with his arms around your waist. "That's how we learned after all."
"Well that. And lots of practice" You said as you looked up at Ignis with a grin as your arms were wrapped around his neck once again.
"Indeed." Ignis said as he looked at you as he slowly started to lower his head towards yours.
"And it doesn't hurt to have pure talent like you two do." You heard a familiar voice of a certain blonde male that you both knew very well .
That was when you looked over and saw Prompto walking over with Iris, Gladio and Monica. You smiled at them as they came up to the two of you. Ignis then released you so that everyone could say hi. You beamed at each of them as you gave them all hugs before you stood back with Ignis. That was when you noticed that Gwen wasn't there.
"Where's Gwen?" You asked as you looked behind them to see if perhaps you had missed her. "Is she here too?"
Then you froze as you watched the whole group shift. Gladio slightly dropped his head as he glanced at Prompto. Monica dropped her head and started running her fingers up and down Gladio's arm. Prompto dropped his head as he looked away. Iris was the only one who looked in your general direction as she shook her head.
"Her and Chad made up when he came home for Winter Break." Iris said quietly as everyone shifted uncomfortably.
"And what about Jeff?" You asked as you watch Iris.
"We broke up." She said as she started rubbing her hands as she looked away from you herself.
"Aww." You said as you released Ignis and walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Iris said as she hugged you back before she released you. "It was a few weeks ago now."
"He doesn't deserve you anyway." You said as you tried to cheer her back up. "Your better off without him."
"Thanks." She said as she slowly looked over at the band as they started to pack up as the next band came on.
"So what brings you guys by tonight?" You asked as you looked at everyone.
"Well, just like you. We wanted to enjoy the last night of the celebration before we have to go back to go school." Monica said with a smile as she turned back to you. "Ignis had told us about your plans and we decided to see if we could catch up with you here."
"Of course dinner at that fancy restaurant would have been nice as well." Prompto added as he slowly rubbed his stomach before he looked back up. "But I suppose the cafe we found was alright."
"Which cafe?" You asked as you watched Prompto.
"It's that one that your dad was at. You know, the 4x4 cafe." Gladio said as he
"Awesome." You replied. "I'll be working there once the swim season is over."
"Now why would you want to do that?" Gladio asked. "Aren't you busy enough at the Citadel?"
"Busy yes." You answered as you heard the next band start to setup. "But I don't want to just be busy. I want to help my dad out with the bills and all. Because unlike the rest of you. We don't have as much coming in. It is only my dad after all. And even though he has a decent check. I'm not expecting him to support me the rest of my life. And besides, I want to buy my own car and have my own place once I graduate from college. You know, something to call my own. And somewhere that I didn't have to rely on a rich heritage to get."
"Our families aren't that rich you know." Prompto said as he shook his head at you.
"Really?" You asked as you crossed your arms. "Your dad is a doctor and your mom is a nurse. Gladio's dad is the head of all the security forces. Not to mention that Ignis' uncle is the Intelligence Director. My dad is just part of the management team for the security."
"But a very essential part." Ignis added. "And a good friend of my uncle."
"Yes he is." You replied as you gave him a slight smile. "And I know that he's amazing at his job. But without mom, I know that he's worried and it has been a bit tight on certain things. And I don't like him stressed out like that. Besides, I could use the work experience."
"Funny you should mention work experience." You heard a deep soothing accented voice say from the crowd. "That was what we came out here to talk to you about."
You turned towards the voice and your jaw dropped as you came face to face with the band that you had just been dancing to, as they emerged from the crowd. "We just wanted to thank you personally for adding to the show. We have never had anyone dance to our songs like that before. It was incredible. You two wouldn't happen to be looking to make a few bucks on the weekends would you? We could use a couple dancers. It will be even better if you can sing."
You both looked at each other before you looked back at them with a smile. "We can both sign. Ignis here even plays the piano. And it sounds like fun. But I'm not even 18 yet."
"Oh. Well perhaps you might be willing to help us out later then?" The lead singer asked. "Once your both of age of course. We could really use talent like yours."
"Perhaps." Ignis said with a smile.
"I'll keep you both in mind. Until then, I'll be looking for you two in the crowd." The lead singer said as the whole band turned as started walking away. "Later mates."
"Later." You called after them before you turned back around to everyone else with a shocked face. "I can't believe they just asked us to join their band like that."
"Not so much as join, as just be their back-up dancers." Ignis corrected as he pushed his glasses back up in his face. "Something that I'm sure both of our parents would have an issue with."
"Your probably right." You said as you smiled at him. "But it did sound like fun."
"I suppose it does have a bit of excitement to it doesn't it." Ignis replied as he put his hand in his chin as he thought about it.
"Speaking of excitement." Monica said as she pointed to the stage. "It looks like the next band is ready. Perhaps if we all dance they'll be looking to bring on all of us."
"I don't know about the back-up dancer part." Prompto said as he gave them a nervous look.
"Are you kidding?" Iris said as she took Prompto's hand.
Prompto slightly gasped as she moved in front of him and smiled broadly at him as she interlaced her fingers with his. "I've seen you dance. You make any dane look easy."
"I......um....that was all from practice.......I.......I can't dance like them." Prompto nervously stumbled as Iris started to dance to the song as she stood in front of him.
"Give it a shot." You said with a smile as you once again started to dance in front of Ignis.
Ignis smiled at you before he took the lead as he glanced back at Prompto. "Just let the music guide you and your partner. Being in sync with each other is the main part that matters. Beyond that, the music is only a path for you to travel along as you get lost in the music."
"I don't know." Prompto said nervously as he watched the two of you and Iris.
"You'll never know if you don't try." Gladio said as he turned Monica around so that she was facing him as he started to dance with him.
"Besides," Monica said as she smiled back at Prompto she fell in sync with Gladio, "it's all for fun here."
"Come on Prompto." Iris said as she moved closer to him with a huge smile as she stared into his bright blue eyes. "Dance with me."
Prompto dropped his head for a moment before he looked back up and met her dark brown eyes as she almost pleaded with him with her doe type look. He gave her a nervous smile as he placed a hand on her hip as he nervously bit his bottom lip. Then he moved closer to her and grabbed her other hand and held it out to the side. Then after a quick glance at you and Ignis to make sure that he was in a good position he looked back up with a bit more confidence.
"Okay." He said with a smile. "I'm ready. Let's dance."
Iris smiled back at him and let him take the lead as all of you danced to the music. Only to soon be surrounded by a small crowd of people as several other couples joined in and started to dance. You and Ignis both smiled to each other as you glanced around and saw everyone happily dancing with their partners. You couldn't help but to grin broadly as you became lost in the moment.
"I hope that you don't mind that I told them about our plans." Ignis said as he held you close and you danced. "Of course I didn't expect them to come find us."
"It's fine." You smiled back at him. "As long as they don't follow us home."
"I can guarantee that that won't happen." Ignis said as he narrowed his eyes at you as he looked longingly at your lips again. "Because is where we will leave them. But, it is not where our night will end. I still one more place I want to take you tonight."
"Really?" You asked in a sexy tone as you moved your head closer to his. "And where would that be?"
"Somewhere quite, beautiful, and very private." He said in a deep low tone as moved his head closer to you.
"How private?" You half whispered as you watched his eyes get dark again.
"Exclusively private." He said with his deep lustful voice before he leaned down and captured your lips in a slow and very passionate kiss.
That was the last thing you remember him saying. Because as he kissed you deeply and passionately, he swept you off your feet as he moved you into a smooth and sensual dance to match the music. Which had you once again lost in each other as you danced the night away in each other's arms.
Meanwhile......................
The audience clapped loudly as the curtain was drawn for the intermission. Paul stirred as he was starting to waking back up as the noise woke him up. That was when he realized that he had fallen asleep. Which he hadn't intended on doing. Even though he had a feeling that it was going to happen anyway.
"Well there he is." Cathy said with a smile. "Time to wake up sleepy head."
Paul groaned as he rubbed his face with both hands as he fought to wake back up completely as he replied in a deep tone. "I'm sorry. I seem to been more exhausted than I thought."
"It's okay." Cathy replied with a smile as she watched him.
To her she didn't care that he had fallen asleep. Especially since the minute that they walked into the place, all eyes seemed to be on them. Most of them were curious as to why he was there. While others seemed to be impressed that he was. There were also a lot of the women who seemed to be a bit jealous that he was there with her and not them. All of the attention was very nerve-racking for her until they sat down and the concert started.
Because after the curtain was opened and he fell asleep. Everyone else seemed to fade away. Which made everything else a bit easier for her. Especially since she could get lost in the music as she leaned up against his shoulder and enjoy his closeness. And he would have no idea that she was practically burning up from just touching him.
Besides, she didn't want him to know that she had been secretly crushing on him ever since she had first heard his voice on the phone. His voice had been one that she had thought about a lot. And had thoroughly enjoyed hearing for three years as she pictured a very handsome and strong man on the other line. Only to have the picture in her head about him to be nothing compared to the real thing when they finally got to meet in person.
"Well since it's the intermission, why don't we go stretch our legs for a bit." Korn said as he glanced over at Paul. "Perhaps the movement will keep you awake for the second half."
"That sounds good." Paul said as he stretched before he sat back up again.
"And we can check our makeup in the process." Mary said to Cathy.
"Sure." Cathy nervously said. "Okay."
And with that they all got up and made their way out of the auditorium and into the crowd as they headed out. Once they were outside, Mary and Cathy made their way over to the ladies room, while Paul and Korn headed into the mens room. Once Paul and Korn were done. They stood off to the side and waited for Mary and Cathy.
"I want to thank you for coming tonight." Korn quietly said to Paul as he glanced around and watched people chatting in small groups as they waited for the intermission to be over. "I know that isn't really you scene. But it means a lot to Mary and to Cathy. They have been looking forward to this concert for a while now."
"Well, it's the least at I could do." Paul said with a slight smile. "I know that you have been very busy with helping out with the Altissia investigation."
"Yeah. Well that was one that we weren't really prepared for." Korn said as he dropped his gaze.
"No." Paul said as he dropped his head as well. "I never even saw that one coming."
"Well, it's said and is in the final stages now." Korn said as he smoothed out his jacket. "We're just waiting now to see if there will be an official court hearing or not. And if they need us to be there in person or if our statements will be enough."
"How soon are they thinking that we'll know?" Paul asked as he glanced over at Korn.
"We should know within the next few days or so." Korn said as looked back up with a slight smile. "But this will only be for the charges that possible pended against her. The rest of the case will continue as they finish off the stolen goods part of it."
"Well based on what I saw, that part will be going on for quite some time." Paul said slightly shook his head.
"Indeed." Korn answered as Mary and Cathy came walking up to them.
"Well it looks like you two are discussing work again." Mary said in a serious tone as she glanced at the two of them. "I thought we promised not to talk about work while we are here?"
"I never made that promise." Paul replied as Mary took Korn's hand.
"Well he did." Mary said as she gave Korn a stern look.
"I did." Korn said in a tender tone to her as he pulled her close and placed one hand on the small of her back. "But that was a promise I made to you. Not to him."
"Fine." Mary said with a smile as she placed her free hand on his chest. "Mr. technical. I'll let you pass this time."
"Are you going to be okay for the second half?" Cathy asked as she looked at Paul with a concerned look.
"Yeah." Paul replied as he gave her a simple smile. "And I'll try to stay awake this time."
"It's okay if you don't." Cathy said with a smile. "I don't mind."
"Well I do." Mary said to Paul with a stern look. "It's considered rude. If your that tired, then maybe you should head home for the night."
"Now Mary.." Korn started to argue.
"No, no. She's right." Paul said as he gave her a sad nod. "I wouldn't want anyone to sleep during one of my training sessions. And this shouldn't be any different."
"Your not leaving are you?" Cathy asked with a hurt look.
"Perhaps I should." Paul said as he gave her a sad look. "These kind of concerts aren't really my thing anyway."
"Well let me go with you. You are my escort for the night after all." Cathy said with a gentle smile as she moved within a couple inches of him. "We can go checkout some place that you like. It is the last night for the festivities. And I would hate for you miss out on something that you might enjoy doing for the evening."
"I don't want to ruin your night." Paul said as he tried to back up a bit but was stopped by the wall behind him. "And besides, you've been waiting for this concert for a while now."
"I saw part of it." Cathy said with a smile as she moved in closer. "That's good enough for me."
"But where would we go?" Paul asked as he was starting to feel pinned.
"I don't know. Some place you like. Or perhaps we could just go for a drink?" Cathy said with a smile. "Then afterwards perhaps we could go for a walk? It is a nice night after all."
"The cabs are running late tonight. In case you don't want to call me to come get you." Korn said with a smile. "Or I can even tell the limo driver to watch for you number and he can get you. I did pay for him for the whole night after all."
"Thank you for the offer. But I think that we'll do the cab." Paul said with a slight smile.
"Suit yourself." Korn said as he stood back up. "But let me know if you change your mind. We'll still be here for a while."
"I know. But either way." Paul said with a smile. "I'll talk to you on Monday."
"Sounds good." Korn said with a smile as he held out his hand. "Have good evening then."
"You too." Paul said as shook Korn's hand.
"And be sure to behave yourself." Mary said to them.
"Don't worry. We'll be fine." Cathy said as she wrapped her arm around Paul's and started to drag him away.
"Whoa. Wait a minute." Paul said as Cathy pulled him towards the front doors of theater.
"Why? Is something wrong?" Cathy asked with a slightly hurt look as she stopped right before the door.
"It's just that there's no rush." Paul said with a smile. "The bars will be open for several more hours."
Cathy slowly dropped her head as she realized how silly she must look to him. "Your right. I'm sorry."
"You certainly are different when your not at the school." Paul said as reached over and lifted up her chin so that she had to look at him. "Do I make you nervous or something?"
"Well...." She started to say when someone came walking up them.
"Hey aren't you that guy who helped to get everyone out of their shops when Ifrit attacked." One guy said as he looked at Paul in awe.
"One of them." Paul said as he gave him a suspicious look as he noticed that he was wearing an ushers uniform. "What of it?"
"Oh man. You're like a superhero to those of us who own and work at these shops and business in downtown. If it hadn't been for you and your team, we would have been killed by him." The guy said as he beamed at Paul.
Paul dropped his head for a moment as he didn't remember how many that he had gotten out that day. Because the only thought that came to his mind was the other three that had been with him day. Jeremy and his two team mates would still be alive if they hadn't been on his team that day. But then again. He rightfully should have died that day as well.
"I'm sure I don't know what your talking about." Paul said in a flat tone.
"No. I'm positive. It's you. You saved my life that day." The usher said as practically fell to his feet. "I can't thank you enough for that."
"Your welcome. Now if you'll excuse us." Paul said as he grabbed Cathy's hand and quickly crossed the street as he looked for some place where he wouldn't be noticed as much.
"Wait a minute." Cathy said as soon as they reached the other side of the street. "Is that true? Is what that guy just said true? Was that you that they showed on the news who was warping into the different shops?"
"I don't know what your talking about?" He asked as he released her hand and started walking away from her and the theater.
He didn't look back as he walked away. He didn't want to look back or even think about that day. Because on that day, everything had changed once again for him. Not only had he lost his team and was almost been killed himself by Ifrit. But he had also found out that he had been deceived by two people that he had trusted at one point in his life.
"Paul! Wait!" He heard her yell as she came running up to him and grabbed his hand. "I'm sorry. But I have to know."
"Why?" He asked as he quickly turned around and looked at her. "What difference does it make to you?"
"Because I want to know you better." Cathy quietly responded. "I want to understand you."
"But you don't need to know me better." Paul said bluntly. "In fact the only thing you need to know about me, is to steer clear of me."
"Now why would you say that?" She said as grabbed his hand with both hands now. "Everyone needs someone in their life. Even you."
"Trust me when I say that you don't want to get mixed with me. OnThe only reason we are even here now it because they asked me to be your escort for the evening. And the only reason we even know each other is because of my daughter. Who needs you to concentrate more on her class schedules then on me. So let's leave it at that. Alright?" He said in a firm tone as he looked her in the eyes.
"But that's not fair to you." Cathy pleaded to him. "Or to me. Can't you even give me a chance to make that decision myself?"
"But why would you want to?" Paul asked as searched her face.
"Because everyone needs someone. And I want my someone to be you." She said as she squeezed his hand. "At least for tonight. Please?"
Paul sighed as he looked away from her. "I never should have agreed to come tonight."
"Don't say that." She said as she dropped her head.
"Please don't say that." She quietly said as she started to slightly shake.
Paul slowly looked back at her and realized that she was crying. He rolled his eyes as he realized that he was fucking up again. He had upset her and was going to have to make it up to her now. Once again he found himself trap.
How the fuck do I keep getting myself into these kind of messes? Paul thought as he closed his eyes as he turned back to her.
"You really want to know who I am?" He quietly asked as he looked at her while he reached up and moved her hair behind her ear.
Cathy slowly looked up at him and gave him a smile as a tear rolled down her cheek. "Yes. Please."
"Fine." He said as he ran his fingers under her chin and lifted up her face so that she was standing back up as she looked at him. "But only for tonight."
"Thank you." She replied with a teary grin.
