Chapter 80 - Harsh Tones

"(Y/n)." You heard someone say in the distance.

"(Y/n)? Hey. It's time to head out. Your dad needs his rest." You heard a soothing male voice say again.

You slowly opened your eyes and looked around and saw that you were still laying on your dad as he held you in his lap. "I'm sorry. I must have fallen asleep."

"That's understandable." You heard doc say as he stood by the bed and gave you a simple smile. "But it's time to head to your own bed now. Your dad needs to recover. And I'm afraid you laying on him isn't helping him right now."

"Oh." You said absently. "I'm sorry."

But as you started to move off of him. You heard him moan as he shifted under you. After looking at his face and seeing him slightly cringe. You carefully crawled off of him. Then you stood there for a few minutes as you watched him settle back down again.

"Can I say goodbye first?" You asked as you gave doc a side glance.

"Of course." Doc said as he stood still and nodded at you.

"In private?" You asked and watched doc slightly shift.

"Well I don't...." Doc started to argue.

"Please?" You pleaded as you turned to him. "I promise I'll leave once I'm done."

Doc dropped his head for a moment. "Of course."

"Thank you." You said to him as he turned and walked out of the room.

"Just don't take too long. He does need his rest." Doc called back as he stepped out of the door.

"I won't." You said back as doc smiled at you from the door. "And thank you."

Doc then nodded back at you and pulled the door closed behind him. You smiled after him before you turned your attention back to your dad. You took a deep breath as you tried to remember what Luna had showed you. You then closed your eyes as you started to draw all of you energy to your hands.

Then you slightly smiled as you looked down and saw that both of our hands had a warm glow to them. Then you leaned over your dad and placed your hand on his left shoulder and your forehead on his.

"I ask the grace of the gods to guide me and help me heal my dad." You said as you closed your eyes as you started to pour your energy through your hand and into your dad.

The whole room seemed to fill with a warm orange glow as you poured your energy through your hand and into your dad. You didn't move as you felt the energy flowing smoothly into him. But even as you kept still, you couldn't help it as a tear rolled down your cheek as you felt your brother and mother's hand on each of your shoulders. After a few moments the glow slowly disappeared and you opened your eyes and moved back from your dad.

"Rest dad. I'll see you in the morning." You said after you saw your dad slightly smile up at you, before he fell back to sleep again.

"Mom........Derek..........thank you for sending him back." You said as a tear rolled down your cheek.

"So, is that what it looks like after you become a Kingsglaive?" Bob asked from his chair as he looked at Bob who was sitting up in his hospital bed.

"What do you mean?" Paul asked as he gave Bob a slightly confused look.

"That machine gun." Bob said as he looked at Paul with almost wonder. "It came out of nowhere. And then the bazooka?"

Paul dropped his head as he slightly laughed. "More or less."

"Does every Kingsglaive have that capability? Can they all summon whatever weapon they want?" Bob asked as he watched Paul.

"We can only summons weapons that we are linked with." Paul said as he looked up at Bob. "Some can summon guns, while others can summon swords, shields, spears and even daggers. It just gets down to what weapon you are most comfortable and proficient with."

"Does it hurt?" Bob asked as he watched Paul.

"No." Paul said back with a smile. "But it can wear you out a bit. Which is why you have to careful of the weapons you choice. The bigger the weapon. The more strength it requires."

"Well you definitely got your weapon of choice right." Bob said with a slight smile. "I almost hate to admit it. But that was incredible. I've never seen anything like that before."

"Not even from Tracy?" Paul asked as he gave him a curious look.

"Can Tracy do it too?" Bob asked in shock.

"She can." Paul added as he slightly looked down before he meet his gaze again. "She is a Kingsglaive after all."

"What are her weapons?" Bob asked. "I'm just curious."

"She's more partial to smaller weapons like handguns and submachine guns." Paul answered.

"But if that's the case....?" Bob started to asked as he remembered him catching her after she fell from the ship after all of her clips were empty.

"Of course there is one down fall to not having a physical weapon in hand." Paul said as he looked down.

"And what's that?" Bob asked as he looked back at Paul again.

"If we're really hurt." Paul said as he looked back up at Bob. "We can't summon any weapons. That's why we always try to have a physical weapon with us at all times."

Bob's mouth fell open as he remembered seeing Tracy when he caught her after she fell from the ship. Her side was bleeding from her fight with the karlabros that had almost taken him out. She hadn't summoned any weapons. Because she couldn't after she got hurt.

"Sir?" They both heard from beside the curtain.

"What is it?" Bob asked in a slightly irritated tone as he turned his head and saw that one of the nurses was looking at him.

"Radio just stopped by for you. Apparently they were told to hand you this urgency message that needs your attention." The nurse said as she handed him the note from radio.

Bob took the note and looked at the message for a moment. Then he seemed to jump back as his eyes got bigger. Then he quickly stood up and grabbed his coat off the back of the chair. Paul watched him with only semi curious eyes. But he already had a feeling that he knew exactly what that was about.

"I'm sorry to cut it short old friend." Bob said as he put the chair back under the table. "But it looks like I have to take care of this before we return to Altissia."

"No worries." Paul returned as he watched him. "And let me know if you need any help with that."

Bob gave him a curious look as he looked at Paul. "I will."

"So I'm confused." Mike started to say as cut his chicken as he sat at lunch with Bob and the others.

"Aren't you always." Rick said with a smirk before he took a drink.

Mike gave him a stern look, but continued as if nothing had been said. "If he could summon weapons this whole time, why did he need the two handguns? He could have just brought out that machine gun and wiped out all of the goblins with that thing."

"Based on what he told me, they can't summon their weapons if they are really hurt." Bob said before he took a drink.

"But he wasn't hurt." Mike said. "Was he?"

Bob thought for a moment. Was he hurt?

Then his heart jumped as he remembered seeing Paul cringe when he put the backpack over his shoulder. But if he was hurt, then why did he go with us? And how did he summon his weapons? Didn't he just say that if they were hurt that they couldn't summon them?

"And he said that Tracy can do the same thing?" Jeff asked before he took a bite of bread.

"Yeah." Bob said as he looked down as his food as you stepped out of galley with a pitcher of ice tea.

"So your telling me that she could have summoned her guns at any given time?" Mike asked as he took a bite.

"Before the mission, yes." Bob asked as he gave Mike a quick glance before he looked off in the distance again.

"The more I learn about her, the more I realize that I have no idea who she really was." Bob said almost to himself before he took a drink.

"Who are you talking about?" You asked as you started refilling glasses.

"Just someone from our past." Bob said as he took a bite of potatoes.

"Why not ask someone who might know more about her?" Rick asked Bob before taking a bite.

"Like Paul?" Bob asked as he looked at Rick with a flat stare. "I get the impression from him that he is more than familiar with her."

"Well they do both work for the Intelligence Department after all." Mike said as he took a drink.

You froze in your tracks as you were filling Jeff's drink. Are they talking about Tracy?

"Whoa WHOA!" You heard Jeff yell as he quickly tipped your pitcher back up as his glass started to overflow.

You jumped back from the motion. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that."

"That's okay. It only spilled a little bit." Bob heard Mike say to you as he watched you carefully.

Perhaps Paul isn't the only one familiar with Ms. Tracy Sullivan. He though as watched you quickly clean up most of the spill on the table and head back into the kitchen.

Suddenly Bob stood up. The whole room went silent as everyone looked at him as he stared at the kitchen door after it closed behind you. Then Bob put his napkin down on his plate and headed for the kitchen. Everyone, except Rick gave Bob a curious look.

"I'll be right back." Bob said as he walked over, opened up the door and left the room.

"Hey! Can you have her bring out some more bread when she comes back?" Jeff asked as he put the last bit of bread in his mouth.

Everyone then went back to chatting as they ate. Well all of them except Rick. Who kept his eye on the door for a moment as he slowly chewed his food. He couldn't help but to be concerned for Bob after the last experience with Tracy. He had seen Bob practically disintegrate after she had taken off without so much as a word goodbye. Bob had been absolutely devastated and had taken it out on the everyone around him. That was until Rick had knocked him to the floor after they had had it out.

Rick dropped his gaze and looked at Bob's barely touched plate. He really didn't want to see Bob go through that all over again. The last time had almost destroyed him. And Rick knew that all to well since he had been the one who took the blunt end of most of it.

But that was only after Bob had punched Alex in the face and broken his nose. Rick had stepped in and returned the hit as he knocked Bob to the floor. He usually wouldn't have interfere with those two since their brothers. But he had to get him to snap out of it before someone got really hurt.

Rick dropped his gaze as he slowly ate. Bob just wasn't himself after she left. He had become cold and angry with everyone. Nothing seemed to snap him out of it until he knocked him on his ass and told him so.

He couldn't let Bob go through that again. He couldn't watch his best friend crash and burn again like that. No this time he was going to step in and stop it. He had to stop this before it began.

"(Y/n)?" You heard Bob call right before the door closed as you walked into the cooler to grab some more raw bread dough rolls that you had staged so that you could put in the oven.

"Just a moment." You called back just before the door closed.

Bob stopped in his tracks outside the cooler and waited. He couldn't help but notice the nervous looks he was getting from the mess cracks as they quickly made themselves busy. He slightly rolled his eyes as he already knew that they were just stalling until he had left the room so that they could goof off again. He was all too familiar with that game.

Suddenly they all jumped as the cooler door opened back up and you walked out with a tray full of dough rolls that were ready for the oven. Bob watched you as you walked over to the oven, put them in, and set the timer.

"There." You said as you turned to him and smile. "Sir, they should be done in about 8 minutes. You guys really love these rolls. I'll have to be sure to leave the receipt with Henry when I leave."

"Yes please. I know that Jeff will be thrilled." Bob said in a distracted tone. "But that's not what I wanted to ask you about."

"Oh, I'll wash the table cloth as soon as everyone is done eating." You said as you nervously rubbed the back of you head. "I have to wash the others anyway. So it all works out I suppose. I just wanted to wait to change it out since everyone was still enjoying their lunch."

"That's fine." Bob said as he slight shook his head. "But that's not it either."

"Did my dad call for me then?" You asked as you gave him a nervous look.

"No." Bob said as he was started to lose his patience.

"Then what?" You asked as you were getting frustrated.

"I want you to tell me everything you know about Tracy Sullivan." He blurted out.

You froze where you stood with your mouth slightly open. Why the hell is he asking about her? "Why?"

"I just need to know okay." Bob said in an almost short tone. "And I need to know if her and Paul are together."

"Why....why are you asking me?" You said as you stumbled over your words. "Shouldn't you be asking my dad about this?"

"I can tell he's not telling me the whole story." Bob said as he glanced off to the side.

"He probably has his reasons." You said as you walked away from Bob and grabbed some dirty dishes that were left on the counter. "He usually does."

I'm not sure why he is suddenly interested in Tracy. But I'm not getting involved with this mess. You thought as walked away from him.

"So you do know her?" Bob said as he followed you as you took the dishes to the scullery so that you could wash them later.

Okay. What can I tell him that won't make him flip out? You nervously thought for a moment.

"Of course." You said as you kept your eyes away from him. "She's Korn Secretary. It's kind of hard not to know her when you and your dad both see him almost every day. And my dad does work for him."

"She's.........?" Bob asked as he stopped in his tracks.

Well that explains a lot. Bob thought as he stood there. But wait a minute. She told me that she was a secret agent.

"I thought she was a secret agent?" Bob asked you as he followed you back to the counter as you grabbed a clean cloth out of the bleach bucket so that you could started to clean it.

"She is." You said as you started to wipe the counter down with a clean cloth. "Everyone is a secret agent that works for the Intelligence department. But they also have a specialty that they do within the department. Some do physical security, like my dad. While others to admin work like Tracy does. And so on."

"And what do you do?" He asked as he leaned up against the opposite counter as he watched you polish the counter top until it shined.

"Well, Korn is training me to be a Crownsguard and retainer for Prince Noctis." You said as you stood back up and looked at him.

"A female guarding a male?" Bob asked as he gave you a curious look. "Isn't that a bit backwards?"

You slightly laughed as you dropped your head for a moment before you looked back up at him. "It's not the norm. But he's only training me because I asked him to. And since Noctis is my best friend. And agreed to have me as one of his guards."

Bob stared at you for a moment as he tried to take in what you just said. But then he jumped as the timer went off for the bread. You quickly put the cloth back in the bucket and grabbed a hotpad. Then he stood there and watched you pull out the tray and put the rolls in a bread basket.

"How does your mom feel about that?" Bob asked as you went to walk away.

You froze in your tracks as you felt your heart stop. Doesn't he know?

"Surely Lynn had a few words to say about this." Bob said as he watched you.

"He didn't tell you?" You quietly asked as you dropped your head.

"Tell me what?" Bob asked as if he was bored.

"My mom was murdered sir." You said in a stone tone. "She was shot in the back of the head right in front of me. After I had just freed her, dad and the other hostages from their cells at the Nif Head Quarters. We were making our escape when she was shot."

"I had just taken down a operator robot." You said as you drop your head and tightly clasped your loose hand. "But it wasn't enough. The operator got out and shot her."

You closed your eyes as you tried to stay calm. "I have never forgiven them for that. And I never will. But far as my mother is concerned with my training. She was grateful that day that I was doing. At least until that moment. Now if you'll pardon me. I have to serve these before they get cold."

Bob then stayed there and watched you walk out. He couldn't seem to breath as he leaned up against the counter. That was news that he had heard a whisper of. But they had been at sea when that had apparently transpired. So he couldn't be sure until they got back into port.

Which was when he had tried to call Paul when they got back. But all he got was that the line had been disconnected. Bob gripped onto the edge of the counter with both hands as he tried to steady himself as he felt his frustration started to build. Because now everything was starting to make sense. Now he knew why Paul suddenly showed up in Altissia years ago.

"Why the fuck am I just now finding out about this?" Bob said to himself as he tightened up his grip on the counter. "Why the hell didn't he say something?"

"That would the same reason why you didn't talk to any of us about Tracy after she left." Bob heard coming from in front of him. "He simply couldn't. It hurt too much."

Bob then looked up and saw Henry watching him. Henry was leaning up against the wall as he looked at his XO. Bob could tell that he had heard most of the conversation just by his face. Plus his office was right by the galley. So it would be hard to miss the conversation.

"You two have more in common then just the training that the two of you shared during those two years that we all sailed together." Henry said in a calm tone as he scanned Bob's face.

"And perhaps you should be asking Paul directly about Tracy." Henry said as he stood back up. "Don't drag his daughter into this."

"She's already been through enough. Don't you think?" Henry said before he walked back into his office.

"Boss." Bob heard coming from the door to the wardroom.

"What is it?" He asked as he looked up and saw Rick.

"Did something happen? (Y/n) just walked out of the wardroom in tears." Rick said as he gave Bob a stern look.

Bob gave Rick a concerned look. "What did she do when she came out?"

"Well she as set the bread basket down, Jeff made a comment about her cooking reminded him of his mom's cooking. And she just broke down and flew out of the room." Rick said as he searched Bob's face. "Just what the fuck did you say to her?"

"We were just talking about Lynn." Bob said as he dropped his gaze.

"And what about her?" Rick asked as he closed the door behind him and leaned up against the counter on the other side of him.

"Apparently she's dead." Bob said in a soft tone before he looked back up at Rick. "And has been for a while if I'm guessing. And (Y/n) was standing right in front of her when it happened."

"And you just let her walk out of the kitchen after she told you that?" Rick asked as he gave Bob a stern look. "What the fuck is wrong with you?!"

"Well what would you have me do?!" Bob shouted back.

"For one gentleman." Henry said as he stepped back out of his office. "How about you take this discussion to your stateroom sir. You are causing a bit of a scene. And this isn't something to be shared with everyone. I don't think that they would appreciate it very much."

That was when Bob looked around and saw that the rest of the kitchen crew had stopped working and were all staring at them. He had completely forgotten where he was for a moment. He then looked back at Rick who was giving him a stern look. And he knew why. He was doing it again.

Bob dropped his head again. "Your right. This conversation shouldn't be here."

"It also shouldn't be just between you two either." Henry said as he walked over to them. "You should really be going to Paul with this."

Bob looked up and nodded. "Your right."

"After you apologize to a certain young lady." Rick said as he gave Bob a straight face.

"Indeed." Bob said in a soft tone as he nodded his head.

"I'm certain that he didn't mean to upset her." Bob heard Jen saying as he approached your stateroom. "I doubt he even realized what happened."

"It doesn't matter." Paul said in a stern voice. "He had no right to upset her like that. She has been nothing but courteous and more than willing to help around here. He had no right to corner her like that!"

"But..." Jen started to say.

"No! We've had enough. We have both done more then our share for this ship already. Our debt has been more than paid to you. We just want to be left alone for the rest of trip if you don't mind." Then suddenly Bob heard a door close loudly.

He paused for a moment as he closed his eyes. Seems that Paul is out of medical. And it looks like he already found out what happened. This is going to make this rather difficult.

"You just couldn't help yourself could you?" Bob heard Jen say.

He opened his eyes to see her standing in front of him with the same stern look that he had just gotten from Rick. He was surprised to see it coming from her. She had never been one to try and get in his face about anything. But it looked like this time would be different.

"You just had to go there again with her didn't you?" She asked as she crossed her arms.

"What are you talking about?" Bob asked her in a stern voice.

"Tracy." Jen said in a stern voice. "Your going on about her again. Wasn't once enough for you? Or aren't you done running your crew through the ringer?"

"It's not like that." Bob said back to her. "I was just asking...."

"Oh I know. You were just asking if (y/n) knew anything about her." Jen said in a nonchalant way. "Why are you asking (y/n) about Tracy anyway? Shouldn't you be asking Paul those questions?"

"I get it!" He shouted at her. "Alright! I get it. That's one of the reasons I'm here."

"Well I hope so." Jen said with a stern look. "Because we're going to need their help with the Captain Steel Situation. That message from Altissia was really specific. Provide them all of the information that we have collected about the Captain Steel and all known piracy activities upon returning to Altissia or them they will place you under arrest."

"Paul had already offered to help." Bob said as he looked at Jen.

"Was that before or after you upset his daughter?" She asked as she crossed her arms.

"Well..." Bob started to say as he dropped his head,

Jen dropped her head as she gave a deep sigh. "Tracy was right about one thing with you. Your impossible."

"What?" Bob asked as he gave Jen a curious look. "But how did...?"

"How do I know about that?" Jen asked as she gave Bob a slight smile. "You weren't the only person Tracy use to talk to you know. In fact you weren't the only one affected by her leaving either. Or did you forget who she had had contact with while she was onboard? And while your at it. Perhaps you should think about everyone around you before you start jumped down people's throat about her. Because she didn't just leave you. She left all of us."

Bob felt his heart stop for a moment as he stood there looking at Jen in shock. But Jen just simply smiled at him. Then she dropped her gaze as she turned from your door and started to walk past him as she started to head away from your room. Bob followed her with his eyes.

"I'm very much aware of who she had contact with while she was on board." Bob said as she walked by him. "And I never forgot how her leaving had affected the crew. Nothing was the same after she left. And that's why I have to know everything about her this time. But that doesn't mean that I'm going back to her."

"Say what you will. Just do us a favor this time though." She said as she continued to walk away. "Make amends with Paul and his daughter before you get yourself into anything with her again. Because if you really want to learn about her. They will be the ones who can answer your questions."

Bob didn't replied further as he watched Jen walk down the hallway and turned at the far corner. He knew that she was right. But it didn't make this any easier to him as he turned back to your door. He had never intended to upset you.

But how was he supposed to know what had happened to your mom. Paul had never mentioned it. But then again why would he. It couldn't possibly be a pleasant subject for him. And it's not like it was a subject that would come easily.

Bob bowed his head and let out a deep breath as he tried to steady himself for the altercation that he knew he was in for the minute that he knocked on your door. But he had to talk to both of you. He had to know who Tracy really was and see if he even had a chance with her anymore. But as he thought about that, he knew that he would have to wait and see what she reaction was going to be when they pulled in. But until then, he had to at least make amends with the two of you.

And with that he looked back up and walked over to your door. But right before he touch the door handle, the door opened on its own. He stopped in his tracks as he watched Paul walk out of the room. Then he was practically frozen in place as Paul turned and looked right at him. Bob went to say something as he looked at his old friend. But as he looked at him and saw the sling that his arm was in. He couldn't help but to dropped his gaze first.

"Your going to have to wait if you want to talk to her." Paul said in cold tone as he look at Bob. "She's talking to someone more important to her right now."

"Then perhaps the two of us might talk then." Bob said in straight tone before he looked back up at Paul. "I was hoping that you might be able to help me out with getting the reports ready for the courts in Altissia."

And.." Bob started as he dropped his gaze for a moment. "I was hoping that they might talk a bit more about Tracy."

"Reports first." Paul said in a cold. "The discussion on Tracy can wait until those are completed. I think your freedom is more important than your love life at the moment."

Bob slightly smiled as he dropped your head. "I couldn't agree with you more."

"Let's head up to your office so that we can get started." Paul said as he turned and started for Bob's stateroom.

"Right. But what about...?" Bob started to ask as he nodded towards your room.

"You can apologize to her later." Your dad said in firm tone. "Right now she needs to talk to Ignis more than she does you."
