23 - On Cloud Nine

Husband is sleeping, nestled against me as I type this. Perhaps I tired him out. We have not gone such a long distance in such a long time. We are still not completely used to getting tired.

But I wanted to know how well he could still move. We had just finished pizza at Joey's (which is still not as good as Guiseppe's in Sperry, but we continue to search), and were walking past stores. I said, "Perhaps it is good that you get out of the workshop, Husband. You spend so much time in there."

"Lots of projects to work on, my love. Yours, mine and ours."

"So much sitting on a stool. Do you only know how to sit now?"

"I'm...sure I can do other things..."

"Truly? What if we were hunting something that ran? Does your time on a stool make you ready to catch it?"

"I'm always ready, my love."

"Then catch me."

I turned and ran the way we had come. It was a couple seconds before I heard his footsteps behind me.

I got to the end of the shopping center and turned the corner. There was a trash dumpster. I leapt to the top of it, then to a window ledge, and on to where I could grasp the edge of the roof. I swung myself up and kept running.

Husband's footsteps were now farther behind me...perhaps he was surprised by the jump. I ran the length of the shopping center and heard him following.

A large truck was stopped near the end of the building. I jumped off the roof, onto the truck and then to the roof beyond. I was halfway along the new roof when I heard the thump of Husband bouncing off the truck.

I switched to Ninja; glancing back I saw Husband had too. The later roofs were not as close together, meaning I needed Shukuchi to get across. And Husband managed to pursue. We were playing an extreme game of Leap of Faith, and we did not know the course well.

In time I ran out of rooftops, on top of a building with a sign in front that read "Cloud 9 Spa". I considered jumping to the street, but I hesitated a moment too long and was pounced upon. Husband got an arm around me and rolled to his back, pulling me down on top of him. We lay there a moment, catching our breath.

"Gotcha."

"Perhaps I let you catch me."

"That suggests you wanted me."

We shifted to lay side by side on the black paper covering the roof of Cloud 9. The sky was clear, but there was too much light from the lamps along the road to see the stars well. It was chilly and hard, so we Returned and went home to our softer and warmer bed. Where Husband nestled against me and fell asleep.

As fun as that was, perhaps I need to plan our fun more carefully.
