It may be December

But it is not the time

For coldness to come

And winter to prime

There's no snow on the ground

The grasses are green

Flowers still bloom

And chickens still preen

Warm days are for tank tops

And jean shorts galore

And then a front blows in

And we pull sweaters from drawers

Light jackets in sunshine

And mittens in shade

Covering pipes

Only on freezing a day

The trees still have leaves

Like in summer and spring

Some still swim in pools

And feel no freezing zing

Cool  wind may blow

But no ice follows through

Just the lightest bit of chill

So that coco may brew

The winter in Texas

Varies around the state

It may be cold one day

But it warms if you wait
