The Lost Son (Book #2 in Ferry's Tale series)
Blurb:
"People in this town are more linked to fairies than they want to admit..."These words have been haunting Ferry for the past six years.
Ferry Donovan is a sixteen human-years-old fairy with an interesting life. During the day, he behaves like an ordinary youngster, spending time with his friends, doing his chores, and dreaming about a special girl. At night, he must train to become the Saviour of Akna, his fairy homeland. Everything changes when a boy comes to town, saying he is the lost son of Ferry's human-parents. Now, Ferry and his friends - both human and fae - must find out who this boy is and what are his intentions. Meanwhile, the town of Goodharts is preparing to enter the seventh year since the last vanishing into the Shepherd's Forest. But this is not the strangest of the things occurring. Over the years, Ferry has learned that the Pride Mansion hides many secrets, and they are all connected to an odd reunion of rich people called The Quest.
Yet all these become somehow less important compared to Ferry's biggest concern -- the girl he likes might not feel the same.
Themes: this second book deals with various themes, from the challenges of being a teenager, being told how you should feel or what you should do, to love and loss, and coping with losing a loved one. As subthemes, there was the coming out in the 1960s, as well as gender and social inequality.
CHARACTERS:
FERRY
MATILDA
BEN
Ben is biracial--his father is white and his mother is of gypsy descent. Ben's skin tone has been a large debate in this book, and it shouldn't. Ben doesn't have dark skin, but tan skin as one of the readers pointed out. Most readers saw Ben as Afro-American. But people of color were not allowed in Goodharts, and the reason for this decision will be revealed in the final book of the series.
So Ben's skin tone is closer to the one in the second picture.
MAY
May is three years older than her friends. That is why it looked like she was acting too maturely for her age, especially in the Moonlight Boy, when all her classmates were 9 and she was 12.
Fun fact: May's name is inspired by the Mayflower which is the same as the lily of the valley, my favorite flower.
ANDREW DONOVAN (KIAN of the Voids)
Kian of the Voids was a shapeshifter which means he didn't actually look as people in Goodharts saw him when he pretended he was the Donovans' lost son. His true appearance and the reasons behind his actions will be revealed in detail in the final book of this series.
BILLY
CELIA
DANNY
STEPHANIE "STEPH" MICHAELS
Fun fact: Did you know that Steph's hairstyle is the closest to the era this book is set in? Her photo is a 1960 real photo.
THYME
SAGE
PARSLEY
ROSEMARY
Fun fact: Ferry's guardians looked different than in the first book because they lived seven years among humans, so their animal features were not that visible anymore.
LILY JONES / ALWYN
ANNE JONES / OONA
ALBERT PRIDE SR.
