CH 5: Heroes
"Kadarith!!!" Galan yelled, hunting me down through the house as I leapt from furniture to furniture and laughed while in Cat Form. It had been a few weeks since Grom'Gol Base Camp and I was feeling much better, my arm wasn't completely healed yet, but my rib cage felt fine which allowed me to finally run around.
"I thought you'd be faster than that Galan!" I twisted around for a second, only to see the Worgen right in front of my face, next thing I knew I was on the ground and pinned.
Galan bared his teeth and let out a guttural growl, "And I thought you would be wise enough to not look back." He got off immediately and snorted, "I told you to stay in the room, you're still not entirely healed."
I exhaled in annoyance and hopped up onto one of the couches, "I've healed enough to move around, so that's what I'm going to do," I walked on my left arm to show that it was good enough, "See? It's fine, just can't smash it against stuff."
Grumbling, Galan stalked outside, his leg was fine now; it had actually healed just a few days after the incident. After a couple of minutes Galan returned and in his hand was a bundle of mail.
I tilted my head and perked up my ears in curiosity and slowly approached him, "Anything for me?" I asked, pawing at his shoulder.
"Hrm," Galan browsed through the mail and saw one that had my name written on it, "Yeah you do," He passed it to me and continued to scan through his mail, "Heey! Someone bought that Arctic Fur in the auction house, great, now I get more gold." He opened the next mail and grinned in approval before looking at me. "Open yours."
I tore the top off to see a folded piece of paper and took it out to view it.
"Dear Kadarith,
You have been accepted to join a Battleground, you must travel to Alterac Valley and sign off your name as soon as you arrive. We do not guarantee your safety, it is your choice to risk your life for the Alliance. If you happen to fall on the Battlefield we'll have a team recover your body and bring it back to your friends and family. If not, you'll be given gold and honor for your bravery and helping the Alliance advance against the Horde.
You're to stay at Alterac Valley for two days, if you wish to leave sooner you must contact a Battleground leader inside Stormpike Guard.
Wishing you the best,
King Varian Wrynn"
"Yes!!" I exclaimed in joy, "I got in! Did you?"
Galan nodded, "Alterac Valley?"
"Yeah" I grinned and walked toward the door, "Should we go kill some Horde now or head out later?"
"Why not head out now? Like you said, you're healed enough." The Worgen put the rest of his mail down onto a table before turning back towards the door. He gestured toward it and smiled down at me before saying, "Shall we go?"
"Yes we shall." As soon as I said it Galan left and I followed him while he walked toward The Mage Quarters. They had an area set up full of Portals that led to each of the Battleground areas, people could either fly to the area or choose the easier way, the Portals.
Normally Galan and I would fly there because we were usually in Dalaran when we got the mail, but today, we were going to have to take the portals, not that I minded, it'd be much quicker and we wouldn't risk running into any Horde on the way.
We got to the Portal area, stepped up the stairs and showed the Mages the letter. The Mages nodded, gesturing to the Alterac Valley Portal. Galan was the first to jump in and vanish. I eyed the portal for a moment then did the same, as soon as I stepped my paw in, the world around me turned a bright white colour and spun, making me dizzy, but soon the spinning subsided and next thing I knew I was standing in the middle of the Alliance Cave, where everyone started off before being let out for battle.
Galan was already at the huge gate at the front of the Cave, the bars were big but the spaces in between them were too small to be able to get out before we were allowed.
I swapped back into Night Elf form before turning to look at the guard to my left. The Guard shoved a booklet toward me, "Find your name and sign it off." I nodded to him and grabbed the stylus and signed it before running over to Galan.
We didn't have our mounts, so we'd have to hitch a ride with one of the other Alliance, or burrow one of Alterac Valley's Rams. Galan and I usually chose the Rams, because we never knew where a fellow Alliance might go and we wouldn't want to risk injury to our mounts.
Galan jumped up onto the gates and tugged on them, eager to get out like the rest of us. When I looked around there was at least 25 or 35 other Alliance members in the cave, pushing up against each other and giving out buffs and food to make us stronger.
I changed into Cat Form once more and sat near the front of the gates, waiting for the announcer to tell us when we could go. Normally, the Alliance would send waves of us, although it took a few days to organize it all, the people from the wave before who have survived should be coming back in a few minutes to rush inside the cave once they let us out.
"Galan!" I called out to him and he turned to look back at me, "Do you see the other wave coming back?"
Galan looked forward again and leaned up against the bars for a few seconds before nodding his head, "Got a few, when do you think they'll let us out?"
As if on cue the announcer called out,"The Battle for Alterac Valley will begin in two minutes!"
"There's your answer." My heart was racing already, even though we weren't even outside yet, it was like a race, a race you really wanted to win and your heart just pounds until it finally starts and you forget all the nervousness that you'd felt before.
I grumbled and paced as I waited for the gates to lift, everyone else around me was screaming and talking to one another, asking for buffs and yelling at the announcer to open the gates.
It was the longest two minutes I had ever waited in my life, the announcer called out again "Thirty seconds until the Battle begins."
Now everyone shoved up against the bars, squishing the people at the front against it in desperation to get out, I tucked down and stayed low so that I wouldn't be shoved, Galan was fine as he still clung to the gates and kicked anyone off that tried to get on.
"Ten seconds! Nine, Eight, Seven..."
A few Worgens began to howl as the gate in front of us opened and everyone trampled over each other and got on their mounts to race toward the Horde base. Galan hopped off of the gate and waited for me to get over. We both jumped onto the Alterac Valley Rams and followed the massive group, running side by side.
As we ran down the ice road we saw people from the other wave run past us, over toward the Cave. There were dozens of them that passed, but we saw so many of the Alliance and Horde bodies scattered across the snow that had not been picked up yet.
Although seeing dead bodies was normal for a battleground it was still able to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who passed by; knowing that they could die any second and their life would be over without being able to say goodbye to their loved ones.
It upset me to see as many as I did, the other wave had it hard, the Horde had pushed past rather far into the Alliance territory and judging from the amount of Horde bodies the Alliance was eventually able to push them back. I shook my head, not wanting to think of how many people had been lost to the last battle.
I looked ahead expecting the Alliance to be continuing its charge; but noticed most of the Alliance had stopped at the Iced over lake, that separated Alliance and Horde territory, and either ran back a bit or just stood there, staring at whatever was in front of us. Galan and I slowly arrived at the scene and saw why everyone was just standing there, in complete shock.
There was a lot more Horde than us, around fifty maybe even more, they were stopped on the other side of the lake as well, staring us down. Most of the Alliance took small steps back, they wanted to retreat. "Guys we have to push forward!" I yelled but no one listened and continued to stand there.
I grumbled and Galan growled as everyone refused to move. 'Typical Alliance cowards!' I hated admitting it but most of the time the Alliance seemed much more afraid than any of the Horde.
"Hail to the Night!!" A Female Night Elf cheered from somewhere in the group and I looked for the person who made the sound. Suddenly, a chopper flew out of the crowd and raced toward the Horde, a female Night Elf in the passenger seat sat wailing her arms in the air in delight while cheering.
"Siblings of the Alliance!!!" Galan roared as he noticed the Human Warrior sitting in the drivers seat.
Screams and cheers of joy erupted from the massive group of Alliance as they followed the Siblings, eager to join them into battle.
The Siblings of the Alliance were two very popular siblings that would constantly join battles with the Alliance and raid Orgrimmar as well as goof off in Stormwind and Dalaran, they had the best gear you could possibly get and they had both practiced for years to specialize their skills. Making them extremely deadly, as well as hated by the Horde.
I gasped, now was a chance to speak with them, as well as battle alongside them like Galan and I had always wished of doing.
I leapt off of the Ram, landing softly on all fours and prowled all within a few seconds, I followed behind the Alliance and searched for the Night Elf. Galan was already behind me, stealthed as well. From what I had heard, the sister would usually follow any Rogue or Druid she happened to find and form a small group with them for the entire battle, and I was sure I wanted to be with that group. Knowing that surviving with her would be the best and possibly safest thing to do.
The Horde had ran at us as soon as the Siblings had shown up but now they were being pushed back as the Alliance battled against them, wanting to prove they were stronger than them.
"Elune be praised!"
I turned toward the cheer and saw the sister, the brother was somewhere near the front of the crowd. If I remembered correctly, the sister went by the name 'Chesah' while the brother went by the name 'Tikil' both had a reason for their names but no one exactly knew what those reasons were.
I dashed toward Chesah, she was in her prowl, looking for the lowest geared Horde she could find. As soon as she saw me and Galan approach she stopped, allowing us to catch up before she continued to move.
Already she had a rogue by her side that would sap any Horde that happened to pass. The Rogue, Galan, and I followed behind her, waiting for her to strike.
I noticed her turn off toward the side and seeming to make a nod, I looked the way she nodded, noticing her brother nod back before charging off into battle and she turned back around again and attacked a nearby Horde.
Galan attacked right after she did, clamping onto the Horde's leg and watching it shriek as the rogue and I joined. It was dead within seconds. We turned back toward the massive group of Alliance and Horde, both pressing into each other in their fight for Alterac, the Horde slowly falling back one by one as their allies got killed off.
Our small group stayed behind the massive Alliance raid, making sure no Horde rogue or Druid had happened to slip past undetected and try to take out an unsuspecting Alliance that happened to fall behind.
Chesah paused, watching as the raid continued to push the Horde back, she smiled smugly and continued to follow, slowly. We followed behind her still, not wanting to go ahead just in case we ended up losing sight of her.
'We're going to win this battle, take back the Alterac Valley... I just hope the next wave after us can keep it...' I frowned, remembering the amount of successful Alterac Valleys we had had, only to have the next wave lose and therefore lost the Alterac Valley again.
It was usually the same thing within a Battle ground, same strategy, same approach, sometimes even the same people. There were the moments when you'd get a premade group that would use a whole new idea but those were rare, mainly because it is hard to find an actual group that would listen to the leaders.
Galan, before he had left, was in a guild that used to raid the Battle grounds proudly but he dropped out of it, not wanting to risk his life as much and to spend more time with me, hunting out in the woods.
The Alliance pushed up toward the Iceblood grave, claiming the towers nearby it. After awhile we noticed the Horde had fallen back quite a distance. Chesah noticed this as everyone began to mount up and chase on after them.
She waited a few seconds before getting a hold of her own Chopper. She waited and made the bike jump up two times, a signal for us to get on.
We did as 'told' and leapt up onto the Chopper, Galan got the sidecar as I jumped on the back of it, the rogue jumped onto the back of it behind Chesah
She drove on after the rest of the crowd, knowing we'd won this battle for sure.
