31. The Grey
Give your heart to a sailor,
Who fell for the storms
in your soul
.
Life was a rather exuberant thing, as was my pride-filled mate whose soft tone remained steady, with a torch of frustration kept tote in between his hands.
Alpha Alexander has lived a life consumed by grace, prayer and power yet with every flicker in his footsteps, I could tell he truly loathed it all the same.
Maybe he always have.
Lionel spoke things that were foreign to me in a tongue that spewed syllables in cursive, some I couldn't entirely understand. He was a very delicate, hard to read individual if he didn't reveal his serial intent threw pledged threats.
I bit my lip competitively as I observed the two males and even tried to compare their differences. One was fragile, with a galloping deceit bleeding threw the surface while the other held a axe in his heart, made of boisterous stone.
Alexander pulls Lionel to his feet by his torn fleshy throat while his other fisted his bloody hairline. I sucked my bottom lip in between my two front teeth, biting down harshly as my stomach turns at the mellowed sight, "What did you do to her Lionel? before I break every bone in your body!" A smirk on top of Lionel's lip only disperses slowly, gauging Alexander's anger.
My mate was a ticking time bomb, mercilessly ready to explode with zero mercy towards any and everyone who resided in his way.
My finger tips dance with electricity. "Oh I think you already know, brother. How about you figure it out, you tell her what you've been hiding." Lionel teasingly replies but each time he sniffles, blood clots collect around his open gash which devours his shoulder blade nicely. "You're lying."
"It can't be." Heidi wraps her arms around me and for the first time there's something hidden in between Alexander's words, a caressing hint of fear.
"Oh but brother, it can be and it is." Alexander slams Lionel back onto the ground and he kicks at his stomach repeatedly.
"Do it! Kill me," Lionel persuades, he doesn't even bother to fight back. He was a sickening vile creature but there's something about him that hung lose around the air, robbing my sensibility to determine what to do and who to do it to. Every relentless kick he received the more the fend inside of me whined and I couldn't decide for what reason did I feel like gagging.
It startled me more than I let on, every time a tendon inside of me stiffened, Alexander was reeling his head around in my direction.
How moments before Alexander evoked Lionel's fate in his hands and now we're all sat escorting him further into Alexander's privative lands.
We entered the manor with my mate's loud voice booming, 'throw him to the wolves' but I assumed it was his barbaric way of saying to discard Lionel away in the dungeon, to await his sentencing.
I scurried quietly behind my prince in case he dared to mumble a words of deliberation but up until my confusion, he hadn't. Why did the alpha insist on acting this way? when will I have the sound of his laughter memorized, and to know what happiness looks like on his charmed face?
Still with Alexander refusing to speak, almost simultaneously did I begin to invade the kitchen with so many pounding thoughts wanting to leap from my mouth, but instead I pushed them aside and focused on my rumbling stomach.
I distracted myself easily by shuffling threw whatever I could find out of the frozen goods stored in the freezer, biting back my lip nervously, I only sighed heavier when Alexander seemingly vanished out of thin air to occupy himself.
After finding something fulfilling to digest, though I knew it wouldn't satisfy my hunger, it was only one thing I knew would salvage my appetite. Or rather... someone.
I toss the strawberry toaster strudel onto the pan as the sweet aroma filtered my nose but the only thing I focused on solemnly, was my mate's rumbling chest against my back.
I could feel every inch of him as my shoulders slacked, and once they performed this action they came into contact with raw muscle smoothing beneath my long white tee.
Alexander skims the length of my shoulder and my eyes lull at the mere contact of skin pressed against skin, and if that wasn't enough —then it was the electricity jumping the gun, that awoken a symphony of adrenaline.
I flip the toaster strudel and pinch my eyebrows together in attempt to find my voice, "Whats to happen now?" With few ideas, maybe I already knew the answer to my question, I just needed to his confirmation.
I failed desperately to hide the worry laced in between my voice but maybe Alexander didn't mind it. He only gets closer and he thins his lips into a straight line. I could see closely now that I was turned against him, face to face.
We're literally centimeters apart and I could see adequately the detailing of his brutal yet enticing expression.
The hair disheveled on his forehead spilled over into loose curls, that were black in contrast to his grey eyes. And his eyes seemed to be frowning along with his pink lips that hovered over mine. I deadpanned when Alexander leaned into me, while also managing to trap me with his locked arms.
I scanned his muscles briefly debating at what force would I have to muster, to break away from him?
He deemed it suitable to step closer as if closer was even a thing when his body was already molding into my warmness.
Rolling my eyes I turn around facing the stove where I toss another toaster strudel, but that wasn't the only thing sizzling.
"I think you know what happens," Is all he says with his voice dropping octaves deeper, but that's when I realized it. His touch scorched my skin setting me up into flames at a constant and it never ceases. Though I hated it, I know he enjoys it.
My cheeks are a blazed inferno and I have to dead the butterflies in my stomach, shoving past my mate's shoulder.
I place the snacks onto a clean plate after I rinsed it and sat on the farthest stool away from my mate. I felt his hawk like eyes on me first, before a low growl sounded from his chest.
He takes the seat in front of me first but he disliked the distance so he sat again, only this time directly beside me.
He waited until I swallowed to begin his next sentence, "Hector escorted Lionel to the underground cells," Pursing his lips, Alexander looked to be forcing himself to explain, "following through with the rightful punishment anyone would be facing if they were to cross pack lands without my awareness first."
I raise my top lip out of uncertainty but I decided to believe him since I felt more appeased with his answer.
I push back the loose brown strands of hair behind my ear, relishing in the presence of my mate who peeked my curiosity. Stealing a glance at him, only to come into contact with greasy eyes that kind of reminded me of Heidi.
That's when I frowned and Alexander mirrors me. So I cock my eyebrow and he does the same. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Instantly I felt insecure at my mate's soft inspection and for the first time his lips tug upward until it disappears faster than I could take a picture.
He licks his lips, overlapping them with his tongue before he could find his words, "What? Is there something on my face?" I ask but Alexander chuckles more to himself. "No," he replies, "Not at all."
I shrug him off again to try and return back to my eating but I was sadly interrupted for a second time when I went peek threw my eyelashes only to find his keen gaze observing me as the grayness darkened. "Then what is it?" I sass. I've felt malnourished for days and finally when I have the chance to scarf something down Alexander is down my back mischievously.
This is nothing like him.
If it wasn't nothing more than pack business or simply ignoring me, he kept his distance with me as much as possible. "I said nothing." He says putting his hands up to gesture he was defenseless. A smile breaks away at my lips as I abruptly put down my fork. "It can't be nothing Bane if you're staring in my face like I'm some kind of delicate creature!" I all but shouted, with my appointed accusing finger.
He gives in with a sigh as he drags his thumb across my lip rubbing it harshly but slowly. "Fine! There, it's gone now." He assures.
Before I could respond my words were caught in the back of my throat once Alexander brings his thumb to his mouth to reveal to me the creamed strawberry and to my expectancy, he licks it with his tongue until it disappears.
The red substance is long gone as he maintains the level of eye contact with me, towering over my chair now that he's no longer sitting.
Oh if only he knew what he spurred inside with such little action.
My chest caves in, crumbling into all of my internal organs. He was the cutest, angriest specimen I have ever seen.
So beautifully perfect,
Yet evil and twisted, I'd kill to know what ran threw this male's mind. How in these short moments he was soft and enduring but quiet and witty.
He was warm and I could feel the heat emitting from his cold skin despite his tan. His lips were the shape of a crescent apple with a pink hook. It's weird I know, but it was truth.
He was real and that wasn't something I was used to.
He'd be the death of me if I allowed it. Surely and inevitably.
Something was awfully different about him and that's when I was able to place my finger on it. "Alpha," I began. He fiddled with his finger nails but his eyes flickered to me once I called his name for a second time.
He clenches his jaw staring wordlessly though I swear, my heart fumbled into my stomach and flutters at the brick when his jaw ticks. Alexander was milking me with ease and he did it filled with charisma, "Your eyes." I say. I blinked rapidly to be sure of myself. "Their different." I concluded.
For the first time my mate was odd and I scooted to the edge of my seat to get closer to this unfamiliar spark. Hell, I knew my mate was gorgeous but not like this.
He had layers of flesh that decorated his outside demeanor, yet it ran so deep within, that it made my heart bleed.
Awkward silence washed over us as we gazed at one another and the light that leaked from the open window gave my mate a luminous gleam that complimented him, he looked more than heaven sent but even god knew he was far from stellar.
My mate was a living sin and I bet he knows it.
"I am,"He mumbles more to himself but I wonder did he even believe that internally? I calculate the way he moves to sit on the edge of his seat, the true predator within my own bode stirred while I noted it only became unsettling whenever it was around him. "I mean, I am different." And there it was, that godlike amazonian warrior that stole lives and could take your breath away.
We're closer than we ever were before and so silent that anyone could hear a pin drop. "No, Alexander. What happened to your eyes?" I tap my lips before asking while squinting my own eyes but being positive I was sure, I still wasn't. "The redness. Its-" my mate stops me mid syllable with his hand grasping my cheek and then he palms it.
Where his hand laid electricity shot up and shocked my nose, "It's gone isn't it?" He asks like he already knows the answer and how could he not be worried like I was? Now he has my full attention. "Oh no... is something wrong?"
That's when he does it, He laughs.
Alexander Bane is laughing.. at me. He's doubled over like I am the most comical being in existence and I've seemed to have missed the joke. "No Vera, nothing's wrong," He states, while a blush creeps up my chin in confusion. "Then what is it?" My heart is pounding at this point and I didn't know whether it was because the alpha said my name or I felt lulled after hearing his genuine laugh for the first time.
"I seem to be going threw few minor changes," Alexander's smile widens but this time his teeth glisten as his lips stretch from ear to ear. "None fatal." My mate says again reassuringly up to my appeasement but I was still unsure.
That's when I decided to let it go but I could still feel his steady chastising gaze on me.
I stand to my full height wiping the rest of my mouth with a napkin and I turned to discard it into the trash.
"Where are you going?" While asking, His eyes follow my every movement as I wrap the other toaster strudel into a paper towel while also turning to exit the kitchen. "To see a friend." I state matter, of factly.
He doesn't demand me to stay or refuse me of my exit like I had thought, but instead he turns his back on me. "I wouldn't like that, Vera." He admits. He couldn't deliberately watch me leave without wanting to stop me so he has to pretend I'm no longer there already. As if I've already left him.
"You simply cannot help yourself," my mate's monotonous voice is growling and I know it's the wolf fighting his barriers of skin in order to protest, seeing his mate abandon him for someone else, whereas Alexander could probably care less. "Can you?"
I grab the door knob fiddling it in my palm to also turn my back to him once again, "I can't."
I tucked the toaster strudel deeper into the napkin, saving it for someone special.
Saving it for Lionel.
..
I raced to the library as fast as my short and stubby legs could take me. There I was suppose to meet Heidi, hence she was my escort to the dungeons where they were keeping her diabolical sibling.
After sneaking past the guards, I dropped the toaster strudel a couple of times and I hoped Lionel still would like it. He should accept anything I bring compared to the feeding down there though. It's the best I could do.
"Vera what took you so long,"I drop to a chair next to the tallest book shelf, watching Heidi as she walks in front of me eagerly to entangle our arms. "Dealing with my alpha of course, you understand." I joke but she didn't find it funny.
She shoves her blonde locks neatly into its ponytail and decides to sit in front of me with a book peaking outside of her satchel I noted, despite the changing setting and persona, Heidi had always been a lover of books. Quietly, I awaited the plan we were to go over.
"Goody, no time to waste. The guards will be coming threw those halls any minute now." She says this while taking my toaster strudel into her hand and examining it.
She looks to be going to take a big chunk out of the side and that's when I stop her, "Hey! Not for you, that's for Lionel." I state while smacking her hand out of the way. She growls an ouch, and instead of responding I only giggle more to myself.
Heidi rolls her eyes and wraps it neatly into its folded paper towel and pushes it into her pocket, gesturing me forward. We walk to the back doors of the library and that's when my nerves froze, justly before my eyes widened at the flash of a memory.
When I first arrived to the castle on the tour, this was the first place my class had stepped foot into, guided by my Teacher Heidi and Princess Clarity. Who would've known I would stay here, for damn near, Possibly forever.
I remember Clarity and Heidi before I knew her real identity. Then there was that daring Mavis, who is the main reason I'm stuck here to begin with. If it wasn't for Mavis— we probably wouldn't have discovered whom my the prince was actually my fate, or get to know the malignity behind the royal family.
"He can't have that, prisoners aren't allowed to eat." Heidi says, snapping me back into reality.
I hadn't even registered we were moving forward until after she tugged at my wrist, softly pulling me into the empty hall.
We are walking threw the long and dark corridor at this point as I reminisce at the few memories that flew by hastily, "Why's that?" I could probably assume but that would take entirely too long, and I was curious. Curiosity would alway gnaw at me like a pesky animal.
"The guards will smell it. It'll mingle within all the blood and cries of the captives."
