Welcome
Welcome to my comprehensive guide on cat genetics! As you might know, I am a HUGE cat lover, and I enjoy reading that one book series about the cats who murder each other, have terrible rules, and have an organized religion. I like to call this series "Religious Overpopulated Murderous Cats", but most people know it as "Warrior Cats".
As I was reading this DEFINITELY kid-friendly series, I eventually realized just how genetically inaccurate the series was. I mean, sure, it's a fantasy series where cats with superpowers can exist, but come on, surely authors who write about cats would know that blue eyes are actually super rare in cats! And that dark brown tabbies with amber eyes are insanely common, and shouldn't JUST be associated with evil cats.
Ok, maybe I'm just being nitpicky here, tbh it really doesn't matter what colored eyes you give your characters, whether it's genetically inaccurate or not. But please, for the love of StarClan, DON'T make all your villain OC's a dark brown tabby with amber eyes.
This is kind of what got me interested in learning about ACTUAL cat genetics, which is how I ended up making this stupid book.
If you're reading this guide, then you're probably trying to write a Warriors fanfiction with realistic genetics in mind. That, or you're like me, and you're just interested in cat genetics for some strange reason. Whatever the reason is, I'm still glad you took the time to look at this, and I hope you learn a thing or two about cat genetics!
NOTE: You do not have to read Warrior Cats in order to understand this guide, but there are some tips in this book here and there for writers who want to incorporate genetic accuracy into their books!
Please consider adding this book to your reading list/library as this book WILL continue to be updated!
