I sighed and tapped my finger against my leg.
"Percy. It's not much farther." Mom looked over at me.
"How do you know? You told me they gave you up when you were four."
"I do have a good memory Percy. If only you would have gotten that from me." She smiled shaking her head slightly.
Yeah...
Not like I don't remember every single thing I did wrong.
Every single thing that lead to the death of somebody.
There were some signs posted, but we passed them too quickly for me to be able to read.
Mom stopped the car. "Listen, my parents only gave me up because they thought they were too young for kids at that point."
"When you were four?"
She sighed. "Percy, they wanted me to be safe. And I have been. For the most part. So we are going to stay here for awhile so you can get to know them."
"As long as they don't try to kill me I'll be good."
I looked in the backseat at Paul who was asleep.
He kinda drove most if the way here, Mom took over not too long ago.
"Honestly how is he this sound asleep?"
She put the car back in drive. "He's a teacher Percy. I'm pretty sure he could fall asleep during his prep period."
Actually... that's happened.
We passed a low metal gate and kept going.
"How long is this?" I raised an eyebrow.
"We're almost there."
Mom focused on the driveway. There was another bend and we reached a tall wrought iron fence with those fleur-de-lis things on top.
The gate was open and we passed through it and then...more green stuff.
Man would Grover love it here or what?
We drove across a bridge over a creek, and there were some fish in it all right.
My Lady!
Lady Perseus crossed over our bridge!
I chuckled.
"Fish talking to you?" Mom questioned.
"Yep. Do you think they have a pond or something?"
"There's a pool."
"Good enough." I mean I'd prefer something natural cause then no chemicals.
But I'll take what I can get.
"Will you be okay staying here Percy? Last night it sounded like somebody was murdering you."
Schist.
"I'll be fine. If worst comes to worst I could stay at Dad's for a night. He probably wouldn't mind and it might help."
We pulled up in front of the house and as Mom shut off the engine the door opened.
Out stepped a few people. One was probably my grandfather, and I have no idea who the others were.
Immediately Mom got out of the car.
I followed, leaving Paul still asleep.
"Sally!"
"Hi Dad." Yep.
That's my grandfather.
"Wait. You're our aunt?" The boy said.
"You two must be Seth and Kendra. I'm Sally and that's my daughter Percy."
I waved, before narrowing my eyes at them. They have an aura or something.
"Uh. Why is she looking at us like that?"
"Perseus!" Mom glared at me.
I shrugged. "Excuse me for being paranoid. And Mom did you pack cookies?"
"They're in your suitcase."
"You are the best." I smiled before going to wake up Paul.
"She can sleep up in the attic with Kendra and Seth. We can probably find her a blow up mattress."
"Just don't blow it up!" I laughed.
Mom sighed. "How about you and your cousins get to know each other? I can get him."
"Sweet less work."
"Come on!" Seth jumped down the stairs and rushed over to me.
"One thing. There's a bunch of ticks this year. Have you heard of Lyme disease?"
I raised an eyebrow. "A disease that is transmitted by ticks and can potentially cause heart failure? Not really worried. Ticks seem to avoid me."
I don't think I've ever gotten bit by a tick.
And besides I can't really get sick. Godly blood protects us from illness. Unless it's from a curse or poison.
Or food poisoning or allergies.
Which is probably why Mom never believed I was sick when I tried to skip school.
"Still, don't go out into the woods."
Hm. Something seems a little fishy.
I'm sorry I had to.
"You know how well that worked with Seth Grandpa."
"Yes, but maybe this one will pay more attention to rules."
I broke down in a fit of laughter and Mom was struggling not to laugh.
"Me? Not break rules? Wow. I really have to tell that to Pinecone Face. And maybe Mr B. He would have a heart attack."
My grandpa stared at me. "Rules are in place for your safety."
Calming down, I shrugged. "I'll stay in the yard. For now. I mean I went to a summer camp that had woods with lots more dangerous things than ticks. Wild rabid wolves anybody?"
"Let's just go before Grandpa locks you in the attic. Grounding here is not fun."
"Okay."
The two of us walked around back, where there was a pool.
And uh...
Fairies.
A bunch of fairies.
And some satyrs.
"Those two goats are named Newel and Doren. They're kinda idiotic."
"Like you're one to talk!"
Um...Yeah. This is probably why they sent Mom away.
If I can see them and the Mist still affects me.
Mom could have seen them as a kid.
Which if they're anything like the gods...that would have been really bad.
"So this is the pool. And we set out milk for the butterflies over there. It's really sweet. You should try it."
"I'm good."
"Seth! You know that stuff can make people sick!" Kendra scolded her brother.
"It's really worth it though."
"Really Seth? Why not let the young lady decide for herself?"
Kendra's eyes brightened and we both turned to look at the source of the voice.
It was a guy around eighteen, with silvery hair reaching his shoulders.
As he looked at me his eyes widened.
"Who are you?" I questioned, trying to keep him from blowing my secret.
"My name is Bracken."
So...new book.
Might not get updated for a while.
And the character might be a bit OOC cause it's been a while since I read this series.
And the Sorenson's lived on the preserve when Sally was younger before giving her up when a lot of the magical creatures started bothering her.
And they then moved when their next kid was born.
Also in this version Greek and Roman gods are the only ones to exist cause Percy would probably suffer a mental breakdown with all of these different myths so...
I'm just gonna say all the creatures were Greek and Roman but I'm too lazy to explain right now...
So explain it how you want
Anyway...
See yah.
