[7] God

Emmy spends the next 24 hours in medical holding at the hospital while they examine her all over. She is checked mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

She first has her stomach pumped to remove the drugs and toxins the gang members took turns shoving down her throat before abandoning her in the middle of nowhere. She wasn't sure what the drugs were, but they made her hallucinate so she knew they were not good.

She is then thoroughly examined for broken bones, bruises, and cuts. Emmy has blood all over her from head to toe, though most of it is not hers. Most is that if her father. The scrapes on her palms and knees are treated with an ointment that stings when the doctors apply it to her skin.

She is tested by doctors for concussions and other physical ailments that could have come from her close encounter with a gang that is notorious for killing cops.

She is given a plethora of medications to ensure the drugs in her system do not harm her. She is also given several prescriptions to help her sleep at night and to help with the pain.

The police enter the room once she is cleared for questioning by the doctors.

She is  questioned by police about who did this, why they did this, where they may have taken her, when they kidnapped her and when they released her, what they wanted, and how she got away.

They also ask her where her father is.

She says she doesn't know. She isn't really lying, though she wishes she was. She doesn't know where he is now. Rather, where his body is. She just wants to block the whole memory out of her mind. She wants to forget all of it.

Chad sits down beside her when the last of the police and doctors leave the room. She sits on the edge of the bed, pulling at the tubes and wires that are connected to her body. "I prayed for you Emmy. I was so scared." He grabs her hand and squeezes it tightly. "Everyone at the station told me they were praying to God for you too."

Emmy stares at the plain white wall in front of her and blinks slowly.

"If God existed, this wouldn't have happened to us." She speaks slowly, staring with no emotion.
