Chapter 1. A new start
I could stay in Washington DC after Sunstreaker was executed. The pain was unbearable and I could nearly handle it. The sadness overwhelmed me even so much that I ended up in depression. Without even announcing I was going to leave, I left the base behind to start over in San Diego, but I couldn't.
I looked over the ocean, watching the sun slowly sink. Every single minute of my life, I had to miss Sunny. Somewhere deep down, I had hoped it wasn't true and they had only locked him up. I still tried to call him, but there was no response, there was just nothing. Sometimes when I saw a yellow Lamborghini, I hoped it would be him. That he came after me like he said I would.
Tears rolled down my face and my view of the ocean became blurry. Someone next to me cleared his throat. "Are you okay?" That voice sounded just like Sunstreaker. I brushed the tears off my face even they kept coming. "I feel fine, I am sorry." The young teen shrugged and sat beside me and handed me a napkin. "Thanks..." a watery smile appeared on my lips.
I looked at the stranger. He looked just like Sunstreaker. It was like, I was looking at him. The stranger seemed to be shocked at my reaction. "Am I upsetting you?" He asked. I shook my head. "You look like someone I lost. Sunstreaker was his name..." I wiped some more tears off my face. "Sunstreaker?" I looked at the stranger again. "He's gone..."
The stranger stared at me. "Gone? What do you mean gone?" He asked and sounded like he was panicking. "I am Sideswipe. Do you know who I am?" I sat up and took a deep shaky breath. "Sideswipe..." I mumbled mostly to myself. He grabbed my arm. "Talk to me! What happened to my brother. What do you mean gone!" I heard the distress and panic in his voice.
"Optimus executed him... about a year ago," I replied. Sideswipe looked at the ocean. I got up, "go to Washington DC. I don't even want to see an alien ever again." Sideswipe looked up. "Wait..." he sprinted after me. "What's your name?" He asked. "Skylar." I passed him and crossed the street, going back home. It was a coincidence, it had to be a coincidence. Maybe, I would have liked to meet him but I can't look at Sideswipe, knowing his brother, the one I loved was dead.
The next morning, I was walking down the street to go to get some groceries as a car pulled up next to me. A Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2009. Sideswipe. His holoform hopped out and blocked my way. He had cried, I saw it. "Can we talk?" He asked. For some reason, I can't just send him away. After all, he just learned his brother was dead. I gave a small nod and after some groceries, we caught up at my apartment.
Sideswipe looked around my room and watched me sit down. "What happened?" He asked and sat down in front of me. "I met Sunstreaker when I started to work at the base. He got the title 'serial killer.' He killed so many people, but he saved my life more than once. Both my parents were killed by Starscream and my uncle tried to murder me. He started to trust me and he helped me with my grief..." my voice broke and I quickly wiped some tears away.
"Sunstreaker was my best friend. He gave me a second chance, sacrificed so many things for me. He even made a deal with Barricade to save me. The Energon in my blood created a bond with him. He was my life, I loved him and then one day, Optimus and Ironhide showed up at my door... telling me got executed hours prior." I looked at Sideswipe again. He got up and hugged me. We sat like this for a very long time.
"Can I stay here?"
I shrugged. "Please." He hugged me again. I sighed softly and patted his back. After all, he was grieving too and I didn't want to upset him. "Sure, you can stay for a couple of nights." I pushed him aside and got up. His face saddened. "W
Sideswipe was different than his twin brother. He wasn't a psychopath and felt tons of emotions he didn't mind showing. Throughout the day, I just minded my own business but Sideswipe tried to help me where he could. It felt like I was looking at Sunstreaker every time I saw Sideswipe.
"Was this his?" Sideswipe pointed at a small shelf. On top, his knife, his perfume, sunglasses, and the drawing he made of me. "Yes." Sideswipe looked at it. "We bought a house together. He wanted to be with me and even wanted to pay the other half of the price. It was just psycho side that got him killed. It wasn't his fault, his past turned him into one. I never blamed him one second. He was just looking for affection. That was all he wanted. I found a way to calm him down and I am sure I could've helped him."
Sideswipe flashed me a weak smile and grabbed the perfume, sniffing. "He had a good taste," he murmured and placed it back on the shelf. I turned around and nodded sadly. "Yeah..." I walked over to the kitchen. "Don't you think we should stick together?" I glanced at the mech behind me. "Why?" I sulked. "Because... we came together by a coincidence," he stated. "Ah, so I can get attached to someone else?" I snapped. "Look..." Sideswipe blocked my way. "It's hard, I get that, but we can be a comfort for each other. Just give me a chance. I know... I am not my twin but I am fine too."
I sighed and crossed my arms. "Please give me a chance." He said and gave me these puppy eyes. "Could you?" He asked. I sucked in a breath, "I promise to behave and to keep you company. Maybe I can fill up some emptiness," he said and flashed me a weak smile. I brushed some hair from my face. "You need some company. You're lonely."
I shook my head. "I don't ever want to see an alien again. I am done with it. I lost my parents because of them and I lost the one who helped me with my grief and has been my support since we met. I loved him and now... he's just gone." Sideswipe sighed softly. "I am sorry, Sideswipe. You can stay here for a couple of days but after that, you need to leave... I am done with it!"
