The tournament

Felix woke up the next morning in a cold sweat, the memories would not let him be at peace. Not yet anyway. He replaces the power source in his armour, and made sure his equipment was functional. And his new abilities were giving him quite a buzz. He quickly got fully dressed, and went down for some breakfast, which was some purple coloured porridge, which was berry flavoured. And quite tasty. But as he finished up, the shadowy figure walked up to him and grasped his arm. "You were talking to Haiiro last night." He said his voice sounding muffled, and very gruff. "Who?" He asked, passing his bowl over the counter. The figure looked ready to punch him. "Don't play dumb kid, you were talking to her last night at that table." the figure said, pointing to the table he sat at last night.

Felix sighed. "First of all, her name is Sparky, and second, back off pal." Felix said, a steely edge to his voice. "Sparky, oh that's cute, but leave her alone boy, she's mine." He said, sounding extra irritated. "Look, I think you have a vendetta, and i have no idea why, but you're not going to do anything, because you won't get a chance." Felix said turning to walk away. The man reached into the folds of his robes. "Is that a threat?" He said, sounding a second away from jumping Felix. "No, just a promise, creep." Felix said confidently walking back up to his room.

Sparky hid behind a wall as she saw Felix walking back to his room. Her hair was down this time but her hood was up. She was wearing yesterday's leggings and boots but a different top. She tried calming herself down and before she knew it a memory popped into her head. She was in deep thought before she knew who the figure was. Feeling frightened, she sprinted to Felix's door and knocked furiously. She kept looking left and right checking for the figure. Eventually, Felix opened the door, but Sparky was leaning against and she fell inside on the floor. Before Felix could even say anything she quickly locked the door with a protection spell and then looked at him. "Are you here to murder me?" Felix joked.

Sparky slapped his arm as she stifled back a laugh. "Do you want me to?"

She gave Felix a quick hug and pulled away. "I think I know who the figure is." She bit her lip nervously. "Um ok, who, and why, because he seemed to know you, but called you by a different name."

Sparky questioned in her mind whether to tell him or not. Well, she was here now so no point in turning back. "Okay I'll tell you, but not the whole story." She took a deep breath. "Um ok, but first, seriously, I can take a sad story, and second i will always have more questions." Felix said, still listening intently.

"Damn. Okay, tech boy. I'll tell you a bit only and you can work out the rest soon, okay?" She said "Fine by me, deductive reasoning is my game." Felix replied intently.

"Good. Anyway, I think the cloaked figure is...my father." She took another deep breath. Felix took a step back. "I thought you were going to say jealous boyfriend, or ex-lover, not father, and if it is why is he going after you?" Felix said genuinely confused.

She sighed. "Actually, fiancé was my second guess. See, the thing is...argh it's too confusing. Here, let me show you."

She created a ball of blue light with her hand. "Whatever you see, and hear, stays between us, alright?"

Felix smiled. "Yes, I'm actually kind of looking forward to this." Felix said practically jumping on his toes.

Sparky laughed and rolled her eyes. "I'm going to show you a memory. I'm going to disappear and you're going to be seeing things through my mind. Is that okay? Are you sure about this, Sherlock?" She asked, a smile pulling at her lips. "Um, what part of yes don't you understand?" He said, waiting expectantly.

"Okay, okay," She said, "I'm gonna say a spell and you'll feel light headed for a moment then you'll see me, but I won't be this year me. I'll be the me of the past. This is only one memory I'm going to show you. Ready Felix?" She questioned, holding out her locket. "Um, yes, yes, and more yes." He said holding out his hands.

Sparky opened the locket, placed it around Felix's neck and placed a gem in each of his hands. "These will disappear soon. Okay, close your eyes. One, two," She counted, "and three!" With a flash of a light, she disappeared, leaving Felix alone.

Instead of a light headed feeling it was more like a cluster headache. Felix writhed for a second and then everything was gone. "Yeah, light headed, sure." He grumbled, wiping a tear from his cheek.

In front of him were two golden doors, both beautifully carved. "Nice ambiance in here." Felix noted. The entire space around him was like storm clouds, a mix of peace, and darkness, and whenever he walked, it created a nice echo. "I wonder if it's like this for everyone?" He asked himself, before placing a hand on the doors. and slowly opening them, was swallowed in a wave of light. But when his vision cleared, what lay in front of him made no sense.

Sparky lay on the floor, on her knees in front of what looked like a man. She looked younger here, maybe fifteen or sixteen. "What, this can't be right?" Felix said looking at the scene in front of him.

The man raised his hand at Sparky and she looked up, fear in her eyes. "Please. Why do you do this to me, Phillip?"

The man, Phillip, raised his hand and slapped her. Felix was outraged, and tried to step forward to help, but then remembered it was only a memory.

"Why is he doing this?" Felix asked, feeling sense of dread.

Sparky cried out and Phillip grabbed her arm and pulled her closer. "You're mine, Haiiro. I can do whatever I want to with you. Once we are wed, I'll have the power to the throne."

Felix felt sick, what? how could this guy be her fiancé? how had it gotten this bad? and why wasn't she fighting back? "Get away from her you monster." He yelled, the two paying him no attention.

Phillip grabbed her and threw her on the bed.

"No!" Sparky shouted, throwing a spell at him. He dodged it and pinned her down.

"You dare throw a spell at me?" He sneered, outraged. "You're mine." He told her once again. He cast an anti - sound spell and tied her down.

The doors closed and Felix was the only one who heard her painful screams. The scene changed as Felix's thoughts rummaged around his head. It was the sickest thing he'd ever witnessed in his life to date. The next scene showed Phillip next to the throne, with a gem in his hand. The King looked pale with dread and Sparky, well Haiiro, was rushing in, going right through Felix as she entered the room. "Ok surely something's going to be done about this now." Felix said feeling a sense of relief.

Phillip used the Green gem to cast a spell and suddenly, his spirit merged with the King and he laughed.

"Now I can Reign as the King and have his power!"

Haiiro fell to her knees as she watched in horror. Her mother was being lifted into the room by Phillip. She had been stabbed to death and she knew who was responsible. Her eyes turned blood red and she looked at Phillip who was now her father at the same time.

"You! Why all of this? Why?" She yelled. "fucking hell, come on." Felix said kicking the wall. Phillip laughed at her.

"Little peasant, how can I not want this? The throne was meant to be mine! Your mother and father stole it from me!"

Haiiro cried out in pain as someone stabbed her in the back. She saw the spirit of her father and she heard a faint "this is for your own good." before falling to the floor. "Jesus Christ, no." Felix yelled, running over to Haiiro, but the scene disappeared around him. As he returned back to the real world, he heard faint cries. And never in all his life had Felix ever felt so angry.

As soon as he was back, Felix had tears in his eyes. "I'm so sorry." He said silently, his head to the floor. Her story was only too familiar. Sparky was sitting down, head in her knees and crying. She had no words because she hated reliving the memory. Felix was instantly there wrapping his arms around her. "I'm sorry, so sorry." He said, tears falling down his face

"Fifteen. I was only fifteen. When he-" She couldn't say anymore as she was full out sobbing into his chest. Felix cradled her gently in his arms. "Its ok, hes not here now, but so help me, if it is him, then he's going to suffer." Felix said, feeling fire burn in his eyes.

She gulped and said "It is him. I can feel his power. His spirit is in my father's body, but some features have changed. What if he does it again? What if he comes for me again? What if he does what he did last time and tie me down and-" She stopped, needing to breath as more tears came out. "Then he'd better watch his back, because there will be no mercy from me." Felix replied, holding Sparky close to his chest until she stopped crying.

"Thank you." She breathed and after hearing his heartbeat she whispered "You've proved you're not my enemy, Felix. You're my ally." Felix rolled his eyes, smiling slightly. "I told you so." He said confidently.

She sniffed and then laughed feeling relieved that she had told someone. "A problem shared is a problem halved." Felix sighed, knowing exactly how she felt. "Are you ready to go?" He asked, looking into her eyes, which were a stunning blue. "Um, yeah, I'll meet you outside, I've just got to get some stuff from my room." Sparky said silently leaving.

She sprinted to her room and opened it, grabbing her satchel and some water. She hadn't eaten anything in the morning because of nerves. Her eyes returned to their normal colour and she breathed a sigh of relief. Quickly opening the door, she went outside and closed it again. As she started to walk, Sparky heard a voice stopping her.

"Haiiro," She turned around, her eyes turning green "You're mine." the cloaked figure growled. She ran as fast as she could to find Felix. She was sure it was Phillip and now she was frightened.

Felix waited in the inn, pub downstairs, a new found hatred for the silhouetted figure standing only a few feet away. He wanted so badly to go over there and kill the bastard for what he'd done to Sparky, but he couldn't. His life depended on winning the tournament, and if he attacked Phillip here, it would get him disqualified. Besides, he didn't know if it was him or not, Sparky could have been wrong. But if it was him, well fatalities were known to happen in arenas, this one in particular.

Felix saw Sparky fly down the stairs and trip while she was down half way. "Oh shit." Felix immediately activated his chest core, and shot forward with unnatural speed, catching sparky before she hit the floor. "Easy there, you look like you've seen a ghost." He said slowly getting sparky to her feet, she looked white as a sheet.

"Well if you count a spirit then yes I have seen a ghost. Thank you, by the way." She replied, feeling uneasy. "Um, what are you talking about, he's been down here the entire time." Felix said, pointing over the the cloaked figure over in the corner.

"Then who the heck..." She trailed off looking in the corner of the stairs, clearly seeing the figure. Why could she see two of them? She dropped her satchel and started thinking.

"Felix," She started "Why can I see two of them?" "Ok, don't freak out, maybe it's a spell, stress, or maybe he had a cloning ability." Felix said listing off the options on his fingers.

Sparky grabbed his arm, looking into the far corner. "Please tell me you see two of them too." She looked at him, frowning extremely confused. "Goddammit the tournament hasn't even started and I'm going insane." She said out loud. "Ok, just calm down, ok, I've got something that can fix this, but I can only use it once per day." He said his palm glowing blue.

She looked at his palm, raising her eyebrows. "What is it?" "You let me worry about that, but it's going to help, ok."

"Uhm okay, just don't kill me, tech boy." She grinned.

"Firstly, this isn't tech, and second, this is going to sting." Felix sighed placing the palm of his hand on sparky forehead.

"I can live with that. Go ahead." She said.

Felix then concentrated very hard, he'd only done this a couple of times before, and it was not easy. Sparky momentarily went rigid, and Felix felt like he was going to pass out. "How do you feel." He said weakly.

Sparky came back to reality and looked even more confused. "Felix..."

"Yeah?" he breathed heavily.

"That was more than a freaking sting." She whispered, glaring. Her face softened and she noticed he was weak.

"Here sit down, we need to go soon you know." She made him sit down in a chair away from the figure. "Thanks, summoning an emotion like that is super taxing." He said slowly. "Armour, auto adrenaline shot." He whispered, feeling his energy return. He saw sparky was still confused. "I summoned hope, it can cancel out any negative magic or pathological effects left by magic." He explained stretching his arms.

She sat down next to him. "Ohh okay. Yeah now that ya mention it I don't see two of them anymore. Haha thanks Felix!"

"No problem, you need to be in top form today, there's a tournament to win." Felix said jumping up, just as a messengerr ran into the Inn. "The king requests that all combatants, to make their way to the arena, where the first round will begin." He said in a squeaky voice.

Sparky jumped up too and put a hand through her hair, untangling it carefully. "Oh God. It's time." She said, looking at Felix. "Come on, let's have some fun, love." He said popping back on his British accent, and entwining their arms.

Sparky tensed but then relaxed. "Alright, dear. Let's have some fun! Can't wait to see you fight, lad." She winked and once again didn't care about her accent. She smiled.

Felix heard the roar of the crowd before he entered the arena. All the combatants had to list their name, age, and abilities, then each of them was place in a circular tube, and left to wait. The king of the town gave a speech, and with a final. "Let the tournament begin." All thirty platforms rose up into the arena, which, was built like the roman colosseum. Felix saw Sparky once they were on the surface. And the crowd was absolutely deafening.

Sparky's eyes kept changing colour and she was nervous. She gaped at the scenery and was fascinated by it. She looked around and saw Felix, looking confident. She tried to catch his attention by waving her arms around but realising she was in a tube thing, she bashed her head on the front. She hoped that no one saw that, but boy she was wrong. Indeed Felix had seen her and was now chuckling. She was debating what to say when it was her turn to say her statement. Death was calling her this time and she hoped that it wouldn't end.

Each contestant now had to give a small one liner, or statement before entering, just in case, anything happened to them. It was now Felix's turn, and he'd narrowed down his options to two lines. And when it was his turn he only had one. "Care full kiddies, Death walks among you." He said, content.

It was then Sparky's turn and she was way too nervous. Her heart thundered as she thought of what to say. Then it clicked.

"Death is but an adventure, waiting to be found." She breathed and walked off.

The rest of the combatants said their lines, just like she and Felix had. Now it was showtime, around them bit of the arena became unstable, buildings and cover formed out of the rock walls, and a small artificial nighttime atmosphere over head. And in giant neon letters there was a countdown, going down from thirty seconds. Sparky bit her lip, but was calm. She was, in fact, excited because she loved fighting. She couldn't wait to beat the crap out of her enemy. Her eyes burned red and she smiled with determination as the number turned fifteen.

Ten seconds, Felix took out his energy sword handle, and powered up his core. This was going to be fun. Five seconds, his chest unit was humming, letting him know it was ready for use. 'Propulsion system online' an artificial voice echoed in his ear. Felix then strapped on a pair of wide goggles, and waited for the countdown to expire. Zero, and they were out. Felix's first instinct was to teleport, using his armours built in teleported, he became a small blue bolt of energy, and landed inside one of the randomly generated structures. He slightly over shot it, but he wasn't complaining. So waiting for a few minutes, Felix then went up to the roof, and sure enough, there was someone there with a high powered rifle. Felix couldn't help himself, he jumped upwards ,and landing gracefully on the barrel of their gun, he tapped them on the shoulder. "Hey there, whatcha lookin at?" He chuckled, kicking the sniper square in the temple.

Now he resumed his search For sparky, or Phillip, whoever he found first.

Sparky was strolling around trying to find someone, anyone. She was pretty pumped up and needed to kick something, but on the other hand she was scared she'd bump into Phillip. Oh well, if she did, it'd be her fate. She saw some guy holding a sword and no armour. 'Pathetic' she thought, as she cast a spell with her hand and the sword instantly disappeared. She smirked as the guy came forward ready to fight. He threw a punch and she caught it with her hand and then twisted his arm back round and threw the guy to the floor. He sprinted away in fear. Sparky smiled and her eyes glowed gold as she pulled her dagger out checking it carefully. She finished and put it away. 'Time to find Felix' she thought and walked away.

Felix teleported around the arena, a blue blur, slashing stabbing, and shooting various energy blasts at his various opponents, who were a little disappointing truth be told. That was until he found a rather large bearded man with red hair, and a giant battle axe over his shoulder. "So boy, you think you the shit, well, looks who's in over his head now." He roared, swinging his axe towards Felix. He just simply teleported a foot backwards, and slicing his blade across the axe handle, breaking the weapon clean in two. "I'm not impressed." He said sighing. "You little shit bag." He roared, his fist slamming into Felix's chest, he let the blow land solidly and using the momentum from the hit, grabbed the fist as its hit him, and flipped himself into the air, and sent down a small bolt of lightning. Turning him extra crispy. As he fell, two words escaped his lips. "I concede." He whispered, and with that his body left the arena, he had been eliminated. Then off in the distance he saw Sparky, but she had a shadow on her. Not Philip fortunately, but someone was following her. "Sparky, on your six." Felix yelled.

Sparky whipped round and pulled out her dagger as she saw a sword coming her way. The guys face was covered so she couldn't see who it was. "Thanks Felix!" She yelled back to him. She murmured a spell on her dagger and it became a sword. She swiftly fought and she pushed the sword out of her opponent's hand and he fell. As she walked away, the guy grabbed the sword and aimed for her back. At the scar that she had from that night. Then a bright light shot past her shoulder, and imbedded itself in the Man's chest, forcing him to convulse on the floor. Sparky traced where the object had come from. But there was no one there. Shrugging she made her way towards Felix who was currently versing a woman wielding two very oversized hatchets. She stood there and watched him fight in awe, as he fought with determination. He was truly a friend to her now and she appreciated so much.
