Chapter 6

I stepped into the king's throne room, not sure what to expect. It had all happened so quick. Well, minus the fight with Sans. I had only been aimlessly walking for so long, until being guided towards the direction of the "gate." I had no idea what the gate actually had to do with me, but it was my only lead, so I went to it. Now though, I wasn't sure what I was doing.

A huge broad backed monster sat on the ground, tending to the yellow flowers that littered almost the entire floor. When he heard me he stopped moving and stood up to face me.

He was like a big fuzzy ram, with a golden beard that wrapped around most of his face. He had a patient and warm smile, but it also had hints of despair.

"I see you've come. Well... I guess you'll just have to follow me." He exited the throne room out a back door, and I followed him.

We walked down a bleakly gray hallway, with a large door off on one side.

"If we continue from here, we won't be able to go back. Come when you are ready." He walked on and through the door.

Something in me told me to press forward, and the other said to hold back. Not knowing which one was right, I decided to go forward. Through the door there was a long tunnel of vibrant whites fluctuating to grays. It was almost blinding.

He turned around and pulled out a trident. "Ready?"

I brought out one of my pokeballs, but he only held his trident. I was confused.

"Oh, I'm sorry. But we won't be fighting with pokemon. You see, I hate to say it, but I need to stop you from getting past me because if you got out and told other humans about us... Then well, we wouldn't be able to do much. It's been a long time since the humans that put us here have passed away, but it would only take one slip of tongue to rekindle that problem. We made pokemon here to defend ourselves, but if you humans have them too than frankly we stand no chance. The only way I can guarantee the safety of my people is killing you with my own hands."

I stepped back. This is like with Undyne... Except he won't hide behind pokemon! I didn't know what to do.

"I really am sorry," he said, then looking down at the ground.

"Kangaskhan! Uproar!"

A loud, ear piercing noise filled the chamber, and we both covered our ears.

After it stopped, the king looked up and tears started to form in his eyes. "Toriel? Is that you?"

"Yes, you big oaf," said Toriel, coming in with her pokemon. "What are you thinking?! He wouldn't tell anyone about this place! He hardly even talks! Though I guess you wouldn't know that with your head in the clouds, huh?" It looked like the two had a lot of background together.

"Ouch, that hurts." He looked back at the ground, then back up again. "Does this mean that you'll come back and live with me?!"

"No, Asgore, I will not. I just came to save a certain innocent human." She looked at me. "Are you hurt? Please tell me you aren't hurt!"

I shook my head that I was fine.

"Thank goodness! I am going to have to have a word with you, Asgore." She squinted angrily at him.

"Well... Okay I'll leave." He hung his head and left the ground.

Maybe he carpeted the floor of his throne room with flowers because he is always looking at the ground.

"Now that he's gone, what do you want to do, my child?"

I thought about it. It was fun here, but I also kind of wanted to go home. I had a certain newbie trainer that I need a rematch with after all. I pointed towards the end of the tunnel.

"Oh, I see." She was disappointed. "If that's your decision, then I won't stop you. Here, before you go though, let me go get something for you."

She left the room for a few minutes and then came back with a hot and fresh pie. This time she hadn't forgotten about leaving me.

"Take this. I was making one just like it for you before, but you ran out of the ruins before I could give it to you."

I gratefully accept the pie, and carried it with me as I walked down the tunnel.

"Oh wait! Before you go, what is your name?"

I looked back to her. I guess she has a right to know. "Red."

"Red, huh? That's a nice name. Don't forget us here in the underground! Bye Red!"

I tipped my hat and then continued down the path.

Eventually, the light was so blinding that I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer, so I closed them and walking blindly forward.

"You've made it to the end," said Jirachi's voice. "Are you ready to go back?"

I thought hard about this one. I didn't expect that I would have a second chance to reconsider. It was almost like an insult to my resolve, only more pleasant. "If I go back, will I ever be able to go back home?"

"Yes. When you are ready, you can come back to this place and I will send you back. Once I send you back, though, I won't send you to the realm of the monsters again, even if you wake me up."

I didn't say a word. I had things that I wanted to do in both worlds now, so as much as I wanted to go back to my home of Kanto, I also knew that I should take this advantage to finish things up here.

"I'll be back," I said.

"Alright. Next time you come here I won't be so patient, so you have been warned."

I felt my body picked up then dropped somewhere else. I opened my eyes. I was back at my starting point in the ruins.

I did everything that I had left undone.

I stayed with Toriel a little while to please her. Once I had gotten sick of the butterscotch and cinnamon pies, I said my last goodbye to her.

I went and "hung out" with Papyrus and his good friend Undyne for a while in Snowdin. We all learned how to not cook spaghetti, and after we burnt the house halfway down in the process I stayed around for a while to help fix it.

I thanked Alphys for all her help and told her a lot more about pokemon. She got curious about the rest of the aspects of the human world too, but I thought that I would just let her dream on that aspect.

And lastly, I hunted down a certain lazy skeleton.

"What is it?" he asked, looking at me with a curious grin on his face.

I pulled out a pokeball.

"You want to have another battle?"

I shook my head "yes." The previous battles had been painful and difficult, but they had been fun. I wanted to beat him once more before heading back to Kanto.

"Well alright," he said with a wink. "This time I'm going to win though. I can feel it in my BONES."
