Our story begins on home world, well in it I should say. We all remember the off colors, and where they lived. Living in the shadows for many millennia, was a small spinel, not the one we all know though, this one was different, this one always seemed to feel a little blue, this particular off color was forever alone, left to sulk and hide away. It was abandoned there with no real explanation, and convinced itself it was their fault. On this particular day, they just sat out in the open and broke down.

Tord's POV.

I was walking with my fellow rubies 'guarding' edd, my jade, he insisted on taking a stroll through home worlds kindergarten. Then I heard something, not like footsteps or anything like that, no, this was different, "my jade." I spoke, "yes, tord?" see whenever I address edd in 'public' I have to be formal, but for some reason he doesn't, "I heard something strange, permission to check for any possible threats?" I asked, not only was I curious, but it was also my job, "permission granted. But please be careful." he answered "yes, my jade." and with that I was off.

It took me a while to search the place, but what I found shocked me. There sitting in front of me was a gem I had never seen before, they were crying and I didn't know what to do, they were very small, and I couldn't see their gem, they were also a beautiful shade of blue. Me not being very good with comforting others, went up to them and hugged them, I must have scared or surprised them, because they jumped, and backed away. Definitely scared, when I looked at them they were shaking and still crying, but I barely noticed that, I was lost in their eyes, they were pure black, I could go on and on about them, but for the sake of the book (and the author) I won't. On their chest was their gem, a blue tear shaped spinel, i've never heard of one of those.

"Who are you, and why are you here!?" I asked. They just tilted their head in confusion, seemingly calming down. "Do you understand me?" I asked in pure curiosity, and making hand gestures in case they didn't, they seemed to just barely understand the hand movements, and shook their head. "Пԓμ oƨѻ σƨɸםσ ͼƨ ɂѻԓͼ ɪμ?" (Are you going to hurt me?) they said, it sounded like a question, and they seemed to get a little scared again. I was at a loss until I realized, they speak gemlish! I barely knew what to do, I'd have to bring them to edd.
