Chapter 3
Many days were spent with Thistle nursing her back to good health. Her purple eyes were always full of compassion and empathy.
Soon enough, Moon could walk without any pain. Her wings were still broken, but they were mending.
"It will take some time before you are able to fly. I've done all i can do, we just have to wait for them to heal."
Moon nuzzled her head against Thistles neck.
Thistle licked Moons ear and started to pad towards the forest.
"I'll be back soon, I'm gonna go catch us some breakfast."
Moon nodded and crawled into the den. She would wait here until Thistle returned.
Shortly after, Thistle came back dragging a baby deer.
"Wow! It looks delicious!" Moon has excited. She hadn't had a meal like this since the caribou.
"Dig in Moon!"
Moon bounded over and her mouth watered. She took a big bite happily. Having her fill, she waited for Thistle.
Thistle dragged the almost empty carcass across the clearing for the flies and birds.
Thistle trotted over to Moon. "Ok, try to slowly stretch your wings."
Moon winced as she moved her wing, but the pain eased up after stretching them.
Thistle licked Moon's ear. "I know it hurts, but if you don't stretch them, they are going to be very stiff when they heal. They aren't going to move right."
Moon stretched her wings again. The stiffness easing out of her wings.
"That should be enough for today, how about we patrol around our territory?"
Moon sprang up to her paws happily. "Yes! Yes! Let's go on a patrol!"
Moon gleefully bounded towards the trees, Thistle following.
Moon effortlessly jumped over logs, slightly using her wings to glide down. Pain made her wince, but didn't slow her down.
"Slow down Moon! Wait for me!" Thistle flapped her wings and flew after Moon.
"You'll never catch up! Ha ha ha! I'm faster than any rabbit!" Moon howled full of glee.
Thistle whizzed past with a smug look on her face.
Moon pouted and ran faster.
Thistle halted and landed swiftly, lifting her nose.
"Do you smell that?"
Fear rose in Moon. Her breath quickened and she took a step back.
"It's another wolf," Moon whispered.
A black paw stepped out from a hedge.
The fur rose on Moons neck, and she faced the wolf with how teeth bared and her body low.
Thistle took note and prepared for an attack.
With eyes locked on this wolf, the fear she once felt dissipated and was replaced with hate.
"Talon, what are you doing here!" Moon let out a low growl.
Thistle's eyes flashed with anger at the mention of his name, recalling what he had done.
The black wolfs head pushed its way through the bush, yellow eyes gleaming as he spotted Moon.
"Moon! I've been looking everywhere for you! Why did you run off?" Hurt flashed in Talon's eyes.
Moon growled angrily. "Why do you think?! You killed my parents! And now you're after me!"
Talon stepped forward. "What do you mean?! That's no reason to act so ridiculous!" His eyes flashed with anger.
Thistle stepped in, snarl on her face. "What you did was unacceptable! You put her through a world of pain! Do you not have a clue of the severity of your actions?!"
Talon reared back in retaliation. "I only wanted her to like me! She was always complaining about her parents! Of course i killed them!"
Moon jumped at him. "Why did you think i wanted them dead! Did you think this would've made me happy?!"
Thistle grabbed Moons scruff.
"Yes! Of course I did! That's why I did it! Why don't you appreciate anything I do for you?!" Talon leaped back.
Moon struggled under Thistles grasp. "Why in the world would I appreciate you killing my family?! Why do you expect me to love you after this?!" Tears flowed down Moons cheek.
Hurt flashed in Talons eyes. "I.. I thought.. I thought if I.."
"You what? What did you think? That I'd love you? That I'd bow down to you with my thanks?!" Moon tried to rip away from Thistles grasp, but Thistle was too strong.
"Yes! Thats exactly what I thought! Why are you treating it like some big deal?!"
"Because it is a big deal, Talon! You kill my parents, expect me to love you, and then try to kidnap me after i run away!"
Talon backed away.
"You are sick! You deserve to die! I hate you!" Moon ripped away from Thistles bite and raced after Talon. "Just die!"
Moon raked her claws down Talons side. Talon yelped in pain and swung at her in retaliation.
Tears pricked at Talons eyes.
Moon paid no mind and reached to bite his throat. He kicked with his hind leg, cutting open her side.
Moon, in pain, fell to the ground.
"It's clear you're not ready to come home to me yet, i'll come for you later then." A tear flowed down his face as he sprinted away.
