Chapter 2

The rain drizzled down and made Moon's fur heavy. Her paws felt like they would fall off. Under the cover of night, she wasn't afraid.

She was long gone from the forest of pine. She now walked a solitary road of grasses and oaks.

When Moon couldn't take another step, she found her way to an oak tree and dug a small hole underneath. As Moon drifted to sleep, her paw pads bled and her stomach growled. She will have to deal with those problems when the sun comes back out.

As the sun soaked through the small hole, Moon's brown eyes opened. Only now feeling all the pain she was in. She could wait another day, but would her stomach allow it? What if Talon found her? What if?

Moon struggled to her paws, wincing as pain shot through her paws. She slowly padded to a patch of bright green grass. It was soft on her paws and gave her a spot to tend to her wounds.

She gently licked the dirt and blood away from her paw pads. Wincing when she hit a tender spot.

Once her paw pads were clean, she headed off. Stretching her pathetic wings, she gasped out in pain.

Talon had broken them after he killed her parents. He had hoped Moon wouldn't run away, but Moon fled on foot.

The wind ruffled her dirty fur. She hadn't had a chance to wash it since Talon had killed her parents. Blood stained around her wings. She looked like a mess.

She stumbled around, the air not quite hot nor cold. A warmth a bit on the cooler side. The beginning of winter was approaching.

Moons stomach roared and she felt nauseous. She looked out desperately. Her heart soared as she spotted a dead caribou. She raced toward it, not minding the pain in her paws.

She opened her mouth to take a bite as she heard a growl from the underbrush. A brown and white wolf walked over to her, teeth bared.

"Go away! This is my food!" The other wolf looked ready to strike.

Moon scrambled away from the caribou, scared for her life. She whimpered.

The other wolf stared her down, and Moon laid low to the ground.

"Oh? You're no bigger than a pup!"

The other wolf approached her, and Moon cowered away.

"You poor thing, you're wounded. Here, come eat some of this. Then I can take you back to my den." The other wolfs eyes flashed with pity.

Moon cautiously took a step towards the caribou, shrinking back when the other wolf took a step towards the caribou.

"It's ok, I won't bite. Just eat a little bit." The other wolf crouched down and began tearing off pieces of meat. Moon did the same. The smell of the meat made her mouth water.

She quickly gulped down the food. She didn't realize how hungry she was until she took a bite.

"Woah, slow down a bit, you'll get a tummy ache!" The other wolfs kind eyes had a hint of amusement. Moon nodded and slowed down, letting the taste engulf her mouth.

When Moon was full she stepped back. The bigger wolf stepped back as well, taking a step towards the wooded area.

"Follow me, we can introduce ourselves when we get to my den. "

The other wolf gracefully jumped over logs, her brown and green wings flared out to soften the impact.

Moons own grey and blue wings were just about useless, but she kept pace with the older wolf. When she felt like she couldn't take another step, the other wolf announced they were close.

Moon and the brown wolf walked through the tall grasses. A cave came to Moons view. It reminded her of her old home. It might have looked similar, but the scent was completely off. Not a trace of anything but the other wolf.

Moon followed the brown wolf into the den.

"My name is Thistle." Thistle smiled gently at Moon, and reminded her of Moons mother.

"I- I am- I am Moon. My parents- my parents were- were killed by a former- a former friend of mine. He k-killed them! And t-then br-broke my- my wings"

Moon clenched her eyes closed. Tears streamed down her face as memories seized her.

Thistle leaned into Moon.

"Oh goodness, you have been through so much at such a young age. You poor thing"

Moon laid down in the den with Thistle comforting her. Moon cried until she couldn't cry anymore. It felt good to finally get all her emotions out. Thistle didn't belittle her. Thistle never made her feel weak for her injuries and emotions.

Thistle comforted her the entire time, and treated her injuries in between sobs.

Eventually, the two of them fell asleep. Thistle seemed to enjoy caring for Moon, and Moon was grateful for everything.

Thistle was the mother figure Moon no longer had.
