Chapter 1
Two years later...
Kanan's P.O.V
I was a little bit away from the base, meditating. I've been learning how to get places without hitting anything with no help ever since I was blinded. Two years, has come so fast that it doesn't even seem real. Then there was the upside to things that in a couple of days it's Ezra's birthday.
Last years his birthday, I heard he was hiding or avoiding everyone. The next day I tried to find and talk with him but he was avoiding me more than the others. Lately, he has been doing this since that horrible day of his.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard footsteps walk up behind me. "It's been a while since I've seen you," I heard Hera's voice from behind me. I turned my head and said, "I could say the same." It's true that I haven't seen a lot of them or at least heard or anything really of them. I wasn't able to go on missions anymore and the rebellion was growing so that meant more missions.
"Kanan, I think you need to go talk to that son of ours," Hera said. "Don't you think I tried," I said a bit annoyed, "He avoids or runs away every time I get close to him." Hera didn't like my response, "Well try harder cause he seems to be...." Hera trailed off making me worried. "He seems to be what?" I asked. ".....changing...." She said and the way she said it didn't sound to good.
I stood up and asked, "Where is he?" I could tell that Hera was smiling, "Try his room." I nodded thanks and held out my hand to guide me towards the Ghost. "Here, let me help," Hera said and grabbed me hand. "Thank you," I said and we walked towards the Ghost.
I heard the crunchy flat ground turn in clanking slanted metal. The ramp, I think then the ground goes straight again but it's still metal. Hera stopped making me stop in the process. "I put you in front of the latter and I think you can find your way to his room," Hera said. "Thank you again for helping," I said and climbed the ladder.
"No problem, love," I heard her say. Oh, how I missed my family, why couldn't things turn out right for us? I made it to the top and used the wall as my guide. If I remember correctly my room was the second on the left. That means his and Zeb's room is first on the right. I dragged my hand on the right wall until I felt it rest on a door. I opened the door to reveal the familiar smell of Zeb's. I walked into the room and the door closed behind me.
I sensed that there was only one person in there. It must be Ezra. "Ezra?" I asked but I wasn't expecting a reply from a gruff voice. "Chief?" I heard Zeb say surprised. "Hey Zeb," I said, "Long time, no see." "Longer than you think," Zeb said sadly. This was the first time that I've ever heard Zeb say something sad. "Is there something wrong?" I asked. "It's just been a while mate," Zeb confessed, "since we've seen ya on the ship."
I sighed and the next thing I say sort of slips out of my mouth. "Have you by any chance seen Ezra?" I asked. There was no reply. "Zeb," I said worried, "where's Ezra?" "To be honest," Zeb said, "He hasn't been....um." I didn't like where this was going. What's wrong with Ezra? Why couldn't, no why wasn't I be there for him? Why is he avoiding me?!
"Zeb," I warned with a worry like a father would be of their own child. Example, me for instance. "Ezra hasn't been like......Ezra." I gave the best confused look I could give and asked, "What does that mean?" "Ezra's been changing," Zeb said darkly, " and not in a good way." "I keep hearing this," I said, "Do you know why he's changing?"
"You mean ya don't know?" Zeb asked angrily. "Zeb, calm down," I said, "Getting mad at me won't solve anything for both of us and Ezra's state." He sighed knowing that I was right and muttered something. "What did you say?" I asked. "You, it was you," he said. I didn't say anything from shock. Zeb continued, "Think about it Kanan. He's been avoiding and running away from you, I hear him scream almost every night for his dad and do you think he shows up?"
I stayed silent and let Zeb continue, "No! So I have to either lay in bed awake and listen to his cries or go somewhere else feeling even worse cause I could do anything!" Zeb went silent and I could hear him breathing hard from yelling at me. He was right for yelling at me and saying that I was a bad parent. "Thank you Zeb," I said, "I want to fix what I broke and I just need to know where he is. I need a second chance to help him."
Zeb didn't reply. "Zeb?" I said confused on why he wasn't replying. Then I sensed something coming from behind me. "It's been a while.......master," I heard Ezra say and judging by his voice, it didn't sound like the spunky teen I knew. I turned around and crossed my arms saying, "We need to talk."
