Chapter 29....
Four days since I've talked or seen Landon. Four days of wanting to reach out but knowing I needed to give him time, as well as myself. It's taken everything in me not to call or text him. It has helped that I've spent the last two days helping with the wedding.
After talking with the girls I ended up sending all my workers texts telling them to take Thursday off. Aside from Josie's wedding being only two days away, I personally needed to take a few days off. I needed to get my head on straight and figure things out without being at work.
It's now Friday morning and I was in one of the rooms at Graydon Hall Manor as we helped Josie get ready to marry the love of her life. The venue the couple had chosen was absolute perfection.
The older victorian style manor was huge. The place alone had like 15 rooms and that didn't include a ballroom for all kinds of events. It had a stunning garden in the back of the place where the wedding was going to take place.
Staring out one of the floor to ceiling windows I could see workers from the venue getting the chairs all situated for the guests. There was four hours until it would start and there was still a lot to do. Ironically Josie was calm while Tasha was buzzing around trying to make sure everything was perfect.
"This place is stunning." Sydni said from beside me, taking the words right out of my mouth.
"Seriously." I looked over my shoulder at Josie, who was sitting there getting her makeup done. "You guys choose well."
"You've seen the tent where we are having the reception right?"
"Yes! The trees in the middle are beautiful." Sydni all but swooned. "This place is a dream."
"As soon as we saw it we both knew it was the place. And there's plenty of privacy."
In the last four days the coverage on Josie and Wyatt's wedding has increased ten-fold. Some paparazzi were set up outside their apartment yesterday to see if they could get a glimpse of the bride to be.
When her and Evelyn went to get her wedding dress yesterday they were followed and within minutes pictures of them were plastered all over social media.
It's crazy to think one of my best friends is having one of the most anticipated weddings of the year. I had no clue Wyatt was that popular or known but that's what you get for being the top athlete multiple years in a row and being named one of Toronto's hottest men. The fans were curious to see what his wedding was going to be like.
At first they wanted me and Fushion Weekly to cover their wedding. Take pictures, do an in-depth article about it but after Wyatt's manager got contacted by People's magazine to do a story it would have been stupid to turn it down. Especially for my little magazine that only reached Toronto. People's magazine was worldwide.
So aside from the photographers that Wyatt and Josie picked out, there were going to be additional ones from the magazine here to take pictures of everything. We've already had pictures taken of all of us in our matching robes. And they were set to comeback any moment and get more pictures of Josie as she got ready. They were probably busy taking pictures of Wyatt and the guys right now.
Despite all that Josie has been handling it all really well though. Better than I would if it was me in her shoes. I remember her first run in with the paparazzi. It was such a shock, to all of us, and I know from what Josie has told us that her and Wyatt almost broke up because of it. He didn't want to subject her to that but Josie wasn't about to let something like that stop her from being with him.
Now two years later here she is not even batting an eyelash at all the scrutiny. I think it helps that both Sydni and Tasha have to deal with it as well so they can all bond with it. I for one was thankful it wasn't me.
"Okay everything is on track." Tasha flew into the room, Evelyn on her heels. "The guys are all in Wyatt's room getting ready. Finishing touches on the seats and arch." She listed off as she slumped down in a chair. She was still wearing her white robe and slippers that all of us put on when we got here hours ago.
The mention of the guys had my heart contracted in my chest. Landon was here. I wanted nothing more than to go find him and talk but right now wasn't the time. My best friend was getting married. I'll focus on that later.
"I also have the cake in the fridge downstairs ready for you and Wyatt." Evelyn said with a soft smile as she went over to Josie, putting her hand on Jo's shoulder and looking at her though the mirror while the makeup artist continued. "How are you doing sweetie?"
"I'm good." Josie smiled at her soon to be mother in law. "Thank you for making our cake."
"I'm honored you wanted me to." Through the mirror I could see Evelyn's eyes getting misty. "Although you may have to fight the boys off from eating it first." Josie's laugh was watery.
"Thank you for everything Evelyn."
I know Josie and Wyatt's mom are close but I think the two are helping fill the hole they both have. Evelyn becoming the mom Josie never had, and Josie being the daughter Evelyn always wanted.
"You're family now."
I looked away from the pair as they murmured to each other. Seeing the two made my chest ache. Wyatt and his brothers had no clue how lucky they were to have a mom as great as Evelyn.
Feeling an ache in my hand I went over to take a pain pill to make it through the rest of the day. Over the last four days I've gotten pretty good at using only my left hand. It was still a bitch putting clothes on and typing with one hand but at least I was getting use to using only my fingertips of my right hand if I needed.
As I struggled to open the pill bottle someone came up beside me, extending their hand.
"Need some help?" Tasha asked. I handed over the bottle with a sigh.
"Why do they make pill bottles so hard to open with one hand." I muttered. I've been keeping the lid off at home so I could easily get them without needing help but today I didn't want them fall all over my purse.
"To make you feel inferior." Tasha joked. She opened the bottle and handed over one pill.
"Thanks." Swallowing the pill I glared at her hand. "Unfair you only slightly bruised your knuckles." Tasha laughed and held up her hand. The tops of her knuckles were only slightly bruised compared to my fractured ones.
"I took a defense class and they teach you how to throw a punch without hurting yourself."
"That would have been nice to know." I grumbled. "Who knew a guys face was so fucking hard when you hit it."
"For such babies they sure have hard bones." I laughed at that.
A soft smile played on my lips as I looked over at Josie. She was radiating. She looked the happiest I have ever seen her.
"Can you believe she's getting married today." I said softly. Beside me Tasha shook her head.
"It feels like yesterday we were at Uni together talking about getting married." Tasha all but whispered as she stared at her best friend. "Who would have thought getting stuck in an elevator would lead here."
"My luck I would have been stuck alone or with some old pervert."
"Just proves everything happens for a reason." I could feel Tasha's eyes on me then. "If it wasn't for that night they wouldn't have met. We wouldn't have met Sydni and Bryton. I wouldn't have met Trevor. You wouldn't have met Landon."
"Smooth." I commented glancing over at her.
"Don't know what you mean." Tasha said innocently. "You are going to talk to him right?"
"Yeah after the wedding." I nodded.
"Why not right now? The wedding doesn't start for another few hours."
"It's Josie day. I'm not going to let anything get in the way of that."
"Oh bullshit. The only thing Josie cares about right now is Wyatt being at the end of the aisle waiting for her. The rest is all background noise. Trust me, if it wasn't for everything else she'd already be down there marrying the guy."
Tasha gave me a look that would make most people feel like they are being scolded by a parent or the school principle.
"Go talk to him right now. He's downstairs." My heart picked up at the thought of going to find him. Tasha wasn't wrong. The wedding was set to start for another few hours. I could easily sneak out and go find him and talk to him.
"What if..." I paused, swallowing the sudden lump in my throat. "What if he doesn't accept my apology and things get weird and awkward."
"Then good thing we have an open bar." My grin mirrored hers before she turned serious again. "It's scary as hell putting your heart on the line but you'll never know unless you try."
I was tired of holding myself back because I was scared of getting hurt. I was going to be more hurt that I didn't at least try. I deserve that. Landon deserves that.
"You're right." I gave her a smile.
"Of course I am." She grinned. "Now go get your man."
I squeezed her arm before heading for the door. Just as I was about to open it the door flung open. I stepped back in time as multiple people walked through.
"Okay let's gets some pictures of you getting ready and then of the bridesmaids." The woman in charge of the People's magazine cover/article said with a clap of her hands. The other person beside her holding up a huge expensive camera.
I didn't even get a chance to protest before I was swept back into the center of the room. As everyone moved around to grab dresses I looked at the door. As soon as I can I'm going to go find Landon and no one was going to stop me.
* * * * * * * * * *
Two and a half hours later I was being positioned to get my picture taken with Josie. I had on my bridesmaid dress as well as my hair and makeup done. Standing around me, Tasha and Sydni wore the same dress as we all smiled for the camera.
"You guys look stunning."
The woman behind the camera said as she finally moved her camera away from her face.
"These are going to look great." When she flipped her camera around for us to see a picture I couldn't help but agree. We all looked amazing.
The gorgeous bridesmaid dresses matched each of us perfectly. The pretty mauve color matched each of our skin tones nicely. I forgot how much I loved the dress until I put it on for the first time since we picked them out.
The satin fabric was smooth to the touch, cinching at the bust and waist before falling down to the floor. There was a slit on the side for a little peek at a leg. The top had two thin straps followed by a bit of fabric falling off the shoulders. Everything about it was beautiful
(Obviously I have to add pictures :P Plus these are gorgeous!)
Josie made sure the color matched the theme of the wedding. The flowers were going to be a mix of pink, white, mauve. The place settings were also a mix of mauve and white. Perfect way to tie everything in.
I looked at myself in the picture noting how the dress color made me look tanner than I was. My hair was perfectly curled, a few pieces pinned back. My makeup light. I looked beautiful.
"Josie you look like a princess." Evelyn said, hands cradled to her chest as she looked at all of us.
Josie did look incredible. Her dress screamed her. A slightly off-white that had lacey straps that came down into a V. It cinched at the waist before falling out in the prettiest lace pattern. Even in heels it would drag behind her. The moment she found it we all knew that was the one.
Josie's brown hair was curled and left down, only a small bit pinned back on the side. The makeup artist making her look beautiful but not overly done. Wyatt was going to melt when he sees her.
As everyone 'oh and awed' at Josie's wedding dress I glanced at the door. I really wanted to go find Landon before the wedding started. I only had a little bit of time thanks to getting ready and all the pictures.
I looked over and found Tasha staring at me. Go! She mouthed, gesturing with her head. Knowing this was my only chance I turned on my heels and quickly made my way to the door, slipping out before anyone could stop me.
My heels clicked on the floor and my dress billowed around as I walked. According to Tasha, Landon was down a level in the room closest to the big window. I passed multiple people as I descended the stairs. The wedding was set to start in under an hour so I needed to find him quickly.
I didn't let myself hesitate as I headed down the hallway towards the guys's room. I needed to do this. It was time I confronted my past so I wouldn't ruin my future.
Coming to the door I took a deep breath. You got this Lydia. Everything inside of me was telling me to turn and run the other direction but I knew if I did that I'd lose the best thing that has ever happened to me.
So with that I raised my left hand and knocked on the door. I steeled myself for what I was about to do. Doesn't matter if I end up with my heart broken. At least I tried.
"L? What are you doing here?" Mateo's familiar face came into view. He opened the door and looked me up and down. "Damn." He whistled. "You here to whisk me away and marry me? I saw the minister earlier."
I took him in, noting how handsome he looked in his tux. Mateo's tall lean frame filling it out perfectly. His dirty blonde hair was done nicely, a few pieces falling on his forehead. God he looked just like his brothers.
"Sorry not today." I sent him an apologetic look.
"That wasn't a firm no though, so I'll take it."
"We'll see after you turn 21."
"Damn friend zoning me for another two years. That's cold." I shook my head at his antics.
"I was wondering if I could borrow Landon for a moment." I peered around him.
Trevor and Bryton stood off to the side, both sliding their ties on, matching shade to our bridesmaid dresses along with a little flower hooked to their suits. To the side of them was Wyatt who seemed to be impatiently messing with the sleeves of his tux. I smiled at the sight of him eager and impatient to marry Josie. When he caught sight of me he stepped forward.
"Is Josie okay?" I've never seen him so nervous. What he was like in Queensland when proposing was half of this. The dude plays in sold out areas and doesn't even bat an eyelash.
"She's fine." I quickly assured him. "She's upstairs finishing getting ready." At my words Wyatt let out a loud exhale.
"Okay good good."
Moving behind him Mateo pointed at his brother and made the 'crazy' motion near his head. I bit the inside of my cheek so I wouldn't smile at that.
Movement to my right instantly drew my attention. I turned my head to see Landon stepping out of the bathroom, fixing his tie. As soon as he caught sight of me he paused. I didn't care that the guys were watching us as I looked him over.
He looked good. His black and white tux fit him like a glove. Insinuating his wide shoulders and narrow waist. His blondish hair looked freshly cut as well as his beard. God I missed him. The force of it nearly knocked me off my feet. I missed seeing him everyday. Missed talking and hearing how his day has been and telling him about mine. I missed just being with him.
Staring at him I just hoped I didn't ruin what we had before it even began.
