Gita and Anand left the school building and came near Anand's car. Harish, Anand's driver straightened when he saw his boss walking towards him. He bowed to Anand and greeted Gita.
"Hello Harish ji, how are you?" Gita asked him.
"I am very well, madam. And congratulations to you." Harish said joyfully. He didn't expect Gita to ask his well being as they had just met once before.
Gita sat in the car beside Anand. This time, he was not working on the laptop or no work phone calls. Gita really had thought he would be working like the last time. This time it was a new car and although Gita was not a fan of this type of cars, the advantage was the long seats putting much required distance between them.
"So you can greet him but not me." Anand stated after seeing her wish Harish but not once she had asked Anand how he was.
Gita felt awkward at his blunt question. Harish was seating right in the front and could easily hear them. Why does he need to ask this right now?
"I saw you just yesterday so what is the need to ask?" She replied. She didn't want to say 'I don't wish to talk to you' and create a rift infront of Harish.
A song playing on the radio of the car, both not talking to another, Anand thought of breaking the silence.
"You don't wish to know where am I taking you?" Anand asked. Ofcourse, Gita wanted to ask this since the time they entered his car.
Gita just nodded. Anand didn't understand why is she not in the mood to talk to him at all. This was starting to get on his nerves.
"Harish, stop the car and get out." Anand ordered in his usual no-nonsense voice.
"Now, Gitanjali, either you will speak what the problem is or we are not going to move." Anand gave her an ultimatum, finally having enough of her silent treatment. He was looking at her with firm eyes, tired of this stupid cold war between them.
Gita didn't believe he was doing all this in the middle of the road, with his driver standing outside. She calmed down her fast breathing and said, "Anand, please, we can go somewhere and talk."
"No. You will talk and talk now." Anand said, his full concentration on her and anger clearly visible on his face.
"Anand please." Her voice almost pleading him to stop making a scene. "We can go- " she didn't get to finish her sentence when Anand spoke, "What did I say?"
Gita looked at him for few seconds and uttered something she has always heard or read about him.
"You are really ruthless." She said it in a soft whisper enough for him to hear.
"Okay. Established that? Now tell me what is going on in your head?" Anand said like those words didn't affect him at all. Well, he had heard far worse. But coming all this from Gitanjali, it did pierce his cold heart a bit.
"This. Exactly this. You don't want to hear me out. It is always this. What you say, will go.But Anand, business might work like that, relations don't."
"Okay." Anand slide his window down and called Harish in. Gita just looked at him strangely. Didn't he want to retort? Or solve this? Was okay his only reply?
"I am taking you home. I thought you should be familiar with the place you will live. Is it fine with you or should I take you somewhere else?" Anand asked.
"Somewhere else." She was really hungry after Anand made her so stress and it wouldn't look nice if she went to his place just to hog all the food. She didn't know what this guy had in his head. He said he wanted her to talk and when she said it, he acted like everything was normal. She was not surprised when they landed at the entrance of 'Sebastian'. The first time when she came here with him was their first date and she had butterflies in her stomach but ended up having such a good time. And today, months later on their second time here, they are having a cold war.
They took seats in their private chamber. Gita and Anand both went with prawns being the core in all the dishes they ordered.
"Anand."
"Gitanjali."
They both said each other's name at the same time. Anand asked Gita to go first.
"Anand, in the car, when I said all that. You just said okay. You didn't want to say something. "
"I did. But that moment, I asked you to talk and I just wanted to hear you out, which I did. So we moved." Gita wanted to roll her eyes. This guy is really so weird.
"So, tell me what did I do that has made you so much upset with me?" Anand asked in a soft tone but the way Gita's eyes flared with fire. He wondered did he ask the wrong question? Turns out, yes! Never should he have asked what has he done, he should already know what wrong he did.
"Anand!" Gita wanted to rip his hair from their roots. He always has no idea of what he did.
"Now I understand some of my friends and their anger. Boyfriends are infuriating." Gita huffed out.
"Hey! I am not you boyfriend. You put a ring on it." Anand said chuckling, showing his ring finger.
"Anand, when I called you, you don't pick my calls, answer my messages and when you finally did, you answered with sarcasm! What did you expect? I would laugh? And on the engagement day, when I asked you whether you really want to marry me or not, you again never answered straight and left with anger." Gita said.
"Gitanjali, why do you have such doubts like whether I want to marry you or not? I really don't understand." Anand sighed.
"Because of your acts. It doesn't look like you are excited for the marriage. I don't want you to marry me because someone else in the family said so."
Anand wanted to retort with some sarcasm, but after all that has happened, one thing he knew was the timing, your timing of saying things should be good otherwise, it would make her more angry, so he gulped down the sarcasm with his whisky.
"Okay, for the one time I will tell you this, I am happy to have you in my life. I have no problems with this marriage. I am not used to explicitly show off my affection and that may be the reason you feel like this, but we will work on our communication part, okay?"
Gita was always easy to please with good words and calm voice, so she smiled and said okay. Anand was just waiting for her to smile for him. It felt like his heart was finally at peace, knowing Gitanjali was no more upset with him.
"Okay. Now, we can finally relax and next time, don't cut the call on me, instead just talk."
The food came and while both enjoyed eating. Gita asked what she had in mind since long.
"How have you changed so much?"
"What?"
"I mean, the first few times we met, you used to be so reserved, would not talk to anyone and so cold but now, you were at ease the first time we met here, I never knew you can talk so much."
"Hmm. Gitanjali, I still don't talk to other people. But I like you and we are getting married. Yes, I used to very reserved earlier but that was because I had not been in the business and even today, I don't like to talk much but I have to do it while dealing with my clients, I have to on my charm." Anand said. In his early twenties, he hated to talk to people, probably because of his personal life but as the responsibilities of business and family took over, he had to relax and not be restricted in a box.
Gita just wanted to jump. He said he likes her. Ufff!! She is going to tell this to Ami. Her once-upon-a-
time-crush just said he likes her!
"Promise me, you will answer my messages and if you are busy, you write so." Gita knew it was childish to ask for a promise but she liked this Anand, not the one who ignores her.
"Yes, darling. I will."
"Eww, don't call me a darling." Gita cringed.
"What? Why?" Anand was confused. She had never reacted so strongly to a word before.
"Where I interned in the beginning, those irritating people used to call me darling, sweetie to mock me whenever I made a mistake. So since then, I assosciate those words with mistakes or those people."
"Okay, darling. I won't call you darling."
Anand teased her more.
"Anand!!" Gita exclaimed in almost irritation and fun. Together they had a hearty meal.
