It was two months later that Gita was able to walk on her own. She had been waiting for this day since a long time. Her happiness knew no bounds when the doctor said she could move like before and the very first thing she did the next morning was to go for a run, feeling the breeze against her face.
She was still on her maternity leave which meant she enjoyed most of her time with her baby. Veer kept her occupied most of the time. She feels he is growing every day and she looks forward to what she new thing he would do today. It was truly a blessing to get to spend so much time with her baby and see him grow. Anand was missing them terribly. She knew he felt guilty of missing some of Veer's moments. It's been a week since he was on a business trip and although he video calls them whenever he gets time but Veer is asleep most of the time.
Anand was arriving today and in some time, he would also reach home. She was super excited to see him. Even though, they have been married for sometime now, her excitement whenever she gets to see him after a long period of time has never faded.
She constantly looked at the clock. Another thing she realised is that whenever she waits for him, time passes really slow, almost testing her patience.
The help notified her of his arrival and she took Veer in her arms and almost ran to the door.
There he was!
Her husband, her crush and her love.
She went and stood infront of him, smiling widely as Veer wiggled in her arms.
He came closer to her, to take Veer in his arms and whispered in her ear, "missed you." They were still not comfortable with even slight PDA infront of their staff.
"Hi, my baby! Papa missed you, you missed Papa?" He kissed Veer's cheeks, who looked at him confused, probably thinking of seeing this man somewhere.
"I guess not!" Anand sighed.
"Baby, it's papa. Pa-pa." Gita said but it looked like Veer was still processing something. May be he didn't remember him or he is just shocked at his presence after so long. They could only guess!
Veer looked at Anand for few more seconds, gazing into his eyes and then they saw burst of emotions. First, it was the acknowledgement and then the crying face which transformed into full blown cries.
"Ohhh....okay okay okay, my baby. Papa is here and he is not going anywhere." Anand tried to soothe Veer who clutched onto him tightly.
Few moments later, when Veer stopped crying, Anand wanted to freshen up but Veer was not ready to leave him. Lots of efforts from Gita and Anand, Veer went to Gita but still followed his eyes on his father.
"Gitanjali, Gitanjali," Anand called her from their room. She went in and was confused to not see him in home clothes but he was dressed to go out.
"Come on, get dressed up. We are going out." Anand said.
She was surprised! Didn't this man just come from a long trip? Isn't he exhausted and want to sleep?
"Where are we going?" Gita asked.
"Surprise! Just get ready, please." He requested and went back to setting his hair.

She still couldn't figure out why he took her to the beach at this hour. It was close to 9 pm and there were only few people around here. They could see the lights shining like stars and it's reflection in the sea water. The waves were calmer and the wind was hitting their face.
"We could have brought Veer as well." She said while missing him. She had been with him constantly and it just weird to go anywhere without him.
"He was so sleepy, it would just disturb him here. Plus, I wanted to talk to you."
She held his bicep and leaned her head on his shoulder. This was probably one of her favourite things to do - to keep her head on his shoulder. It gave her a sense of protection and security, that she always has her own person to lean on for support. And he proved her right when the difficult times came, he was constantly with her, although upset with her, but he never left her on her own when she needed him.
As a florist boy was walking by, Anand stopped him and signed him to come near them. It looked like the boy was going home after a busy day. He hardly had 12 to 16 flowers left and to the boy's delight, Anand bought them all!
The boy was genuinely happy and thanked Anand for making his day end on a nicer note.
Anand presented her a messy bouquet of 16 flowers, some roses, some sunflowers, some orchids, some gerberas of different colours, but they all were pretty!
Gita accepted them with a sweet smile that she wasn't able to stop. She asked him why is he being so romantic?
"I had planned a grand proposal. I mea, not a proposal, kind of like my confession..." Anand looked down and had his hand on his neck. He was getting shy!
Gita had an unreadable expression on her face! "What?!" She asked. She wanted to know all the details. "When?"
"I had planned for it to be a few days after the baby shower but before that, all the mess happened." He answered.
Gita held his hand tighter.
"Everything was going on so well...I had finally accepted my feelings and wanted to tell it to you, but then life had to be a bitch! I am not going to deny that it made me angry. I had questions like why was it trying to snatch the only good thing in my life?" He sighed a bit, "but I think it gave me a time to realise a lot of things."
"Before, I was in denial that I was in love with you. Then, I had accepted it but I always wondered, 'is this overrated feeling called love?' But then I realised it's importance when you were not with me, when you were absent from my everyday life, when you were unconscious on that bed. I realised that my feelings for you, what is named as love, is not at all overrated once you were not with me."
He sighed remembering the days, "It was so difficult to function without you, I had no reason to laugh or smile. Noone to share my talks and rants with me. I valued even the moments we spent in silence. I...I don't ever want to go back to days where you are not there. I...I love you, Gitanjali. And, I don't feel it's an overrated feeling but the word 'love' definitely is because it can't come close to what I feel for you. I think the walls that I built around me have finally crumbled because of you."
He had a sweet look of defeat on his face. The mighty Anand was defeated infront of love. The light of love penetrating his dark life.
Even though both were not a fan of public display of affection, not at all, Gita hugged Anand for few minutes and pulled back.
"I love you, Anand. Today, tomorrow and always." She replied in short as she was not good at putting her feelings in words. "I was so so so skeptical of marriage. Thank you for not making me regret of giving you and this marriage a chance." She joked. He booped her nose as she stuck out her tongue.
He remembered how all these silly things would have irritated him before marriage. He always wanted a perfect partner who was also poised and not this silly and naive. He never cared if he found love or not with that person. But, he was happy things changed for good and life surprised him with this adorable goofball.
He realised she is perfect the way she is, atleast perfect for him. They were the right fit for each other with their personalities balancing each other.
"Would you fancy an ice cream?" She asked pointing towards the icecream stall. He asked why is she suddenly asking this. "You gave me flowers alongwith your confession. I should also give you something. I know you won't each at these places. But, let's have something sweet!" He reluctantly agreed and they shared a small pista icecream cone as a dessert to celebrate the beautiful moment they shared.
They both looked at the watch and realised it's been an hour and more that they had left Veer. They rushed back home to their little life.
Life was not perfect, but moments like these were. There was still a long way to go for Anand's relations with other family members to be on the right track but they were taking small baby steps. His mom visits Veer often in his home, Isha and him do small talks, Anand tried to let go off his grudges with his grandfather.
He wanted to be less aloof and more grateful for the life he has and especially his wife, Gitanjali. It was weird how life can surprise you when you least expect it to be. It engulfed Anand with one thing he feared the most : love.
