They Can't Hear

"SHE'S DEAD!"

Ice Cube frantically ran around the city, sliding by corners and dodging every building. Fear pounded harshly in her heart, as tears threatened to spill from her cold, timid eyes. The image of what she had seen haunted her in her mind, crawling up back as she continued to run. She didn't even know where she was running off to; she was in shock.

She continued to run, until she noticed the small, gleaming garden in the distance, standing proudly besides a few colored houses. She screamed once more, trying to grab the attention of anyone who could be in the area.
She...rarely visited here, ever since the 'incident.'
Oh well.

"SHE'S GONE, GONER THAN ANYTHING!"

"WHO?!" The door to one of the houses busted open, as Fries stepped out, quickly looking towards the garden, and the towards Ice Cube. His face dropped, as he saw Ice Cube's fearful expression, and before he could even ask...

"PUFFBALL IS DEAD!" Her voice broke out, as a tear slipped down her cheek. Fries shook his head;

No, no no no. She couldn't be dead. He literally sent her off to the garden! And here he was, standing by it himself. But no Puffball..

"SHE WAS JUST OUT HERE! SHE CAN'T..."

"Who can't, Fries?" Coiny walked over towards the two, raising an eyebrow at Fries's pale expression. "What's going on?"

"PUFFBALL!" Ice Cube And Fries screamed, as Ice Cube began to run back from where she came. Fries quickly followed, grabbing a trowel as a defense mechanism just...in case they stumbled across someone. Coiny jumped, before he began to follow, sprinting to catch up to the two.

"Hey, HEY WAIT UP! WHATS WRONG WITH HER?"

Soon, the three were sprinting out of the small area, leaving a weird silence to hang over the buildings.
Meanwhile, Gelatin stayed inside of Fries's house. He didn't even bother to go investigate the yelling about Puffball outside. He was tired, woozy, and a bit down from everything that had just went down; he didn't want to put any more weight onto him. He was eating; well, Fries was giving him some mashed growtatoes he had made for him. You know, to help some of the pain medication sit in. But after he had run out, he couldn't eat, the spoon taunting Gelatin from the bowl.

He decided to at least try. With his two..nubs, he reached out, and carefully squeezed the spoon between his arms. The sudden pain that rose from his stubs made him wince, but shakily raised the spoon towards his mouth. He was close; he could do it, he could do...

Clink.

The spoon suddenly collapsed onto the ground, the loud clink of the metal reverberating through the house. Bits of the mashed growtatoes had splattered around it, staining the floor and part of Gelatin's legs. He silently cursed himself, as he got down to pick it up.

He stared at his arms, and his eyes began to trace down towards his stubs. Tears began to fill in his eyes, as he wrapped his arms around his knees and began to cry. At first, it was just a few sniffles that danced through the silence of the house. But as time passed, ugly sobs and cries scratched through the air, causing some items to collapse from the sound. He had never felt this way in his lifetime; was there ever a time he would cry?

Hot tears streamed down his face as a migraine punched through his skull, making him wince. He simply hated it. He didn't want to be alive, knowing that he should've ended up like the rest of them...

Handless, and dead.

He wiped his eyes, as he glanced over at a small clock that hung highly against the wall. It took him a moment for his vision to adjust after the small-session he had, but he then read...

"5:13..." he muttered to himself. Has it been ten minutes? Fifteen? Maybe even twenty..
Ah, who cares.

Gelatin slowly sat up, taking a long, deep breath in. He exhaled, as he began to stand back up.

BANG.

Suddenly, a burst of pain exploded on the back of his head, spreading and numbing through his veins. He felt his vision darken, as his thoughts began to freeze inside of his mind. He felt himself collapse to the floor, as he felt his mind screaming a small 'no, no, no..'

And then everything turned black.

"Oh my god..."

Fries's voice broke, as his limbs suddenly froze. The thoughts and possibilities of outcomes that had swirled and geared through Fries's mind has suddenly broke down and collapsed, as he saw the lifeless corpse in front of him. Ice Cube looked up at him, tears already pouring down her cheeks.

"I..was heading to the LOL, a-and...I found her.." she whispered, her frail voice not daring to get even louder than it was. Fries stumbled forward, before he fell onto his knees onto the warm grains of sand. His fingers traced over the soft, pink fuzz, as he carefully scooped Puffball into his arms. He didn't even notice the tears that made their way down his cheeks, but...

"Did you..see anyone, around here, around ANYWHERE, that could've done that." Coiny mumbled, looking towards Ice Cube. She shook her head fearfully.

"N-No! That's the thing! There was no one here when I walked by; she must've been there for hours.."

Coiny looked towards the lifeless corpse, before glancing back towards Puffball, his heart aching at her pained expression that was frozen onto her face.

"With that good of an aim, It has to be Leafy." He muttered angrily. Ice Cube looked up at him, disbelief shining in his eyes.

"Do you really think-"

"Yes. I do." Coiny whispered, not wanting Fries to hear the conversation. "Look at how the knife's in her head; that couldn't be from behind. There's only one object who has a good aim like that, and the strength to lodge it into her head..."

"This is all my fault."

The sudden sentence made Coiny and Ice Cube turn towards Fries, as he shakily rocked the corpse in his arms. His face was filled with an explosion of expressions; pain, anger, sorrow...

"I shouldn't have let her do it herself." His voice cracked out, as more tears poured down his cheeks.  Coiny glanced down at Ice Cube, and gave her a worried look.

"Be...careful out there, ok? I'll stay here with him." He whispered. Ice Cube nodded, before she quickly ran off, her quick footsteps crunching the sand below her. Coiny walked over towards Fries, and shook his head.

"Fries, this isn't your fault...it's no one's fault.."

"It's my fault. I sent her out there alone. I sent her out there, knowing that there's a murderer out here. I sent her. I did." Fries sobbed out, holding Puffball close. "It should've been me. It should've been all me.."

Coiny felt tears sting at his eyes, as he watched Fries caress Puffball's face gently. Not only was it shocking to see her...but it was shocking to see Fries grieving, Hell, CRYING for the matter. He stood beside him, rubbing his back comfortingly as he let him cry.

"I-I didn't mean to-...I'm sorry, Puffball..." Fries cried out, a sob quickly following behind. He hugged the corpse; not giving a damn if any of that rainbow substance stained him. He sobbed silently, holding her soft, somehow warm body close to his. Coiny continued to rub his back, and after a few minutes of silent weeps and cries, he spoke.

"Fries, this wasn't your fault. I need you to understand that this..wasn't your fault." He whispered. Fries glared back at him, as more tears began to stream down his face.

"What do YOU know Coiny. You wouldn't understand ANY OF THIS." He snapped. Coiny sighed.

"You'd be shocked to know, but I do. I do know how it feels, Fries." He crossed his arms. "Don't you remember the first thing that took place in this coin-forsaken place? Don't you remember Firey's death? I know how you feel Fries because I'VE BEEN THERE TOO." Hot tears began to fill up at the back of his eyes, as he clenched his fists.

"DON'T you remember how we saw him?! DON'T you remember how distraught I was?! I blamed myself for his death for a ENTIRE WEEK. I had never liked him, I had never agreed with him, but there was something inside me that was telling me to go up there, get him out and apologize. There was SOMETHING that told me to go fix ties with him and enjoy what I could, but I IGNORED EVERY SIGN, EVERY WHISPER, AND DO YOU KNOW WHERE THAT FUCKING GOT ME?!" He gestured towards his surrounding, his arms standing out painfully. "THIS IS WHERE IT GOT ME FRIES. IT HAS BEEN MONTHS, AND I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER FORGIVE MYSELF FOR HIS DEATH. I COULDN'T EVEN SEND HIM A QUIET APOLOGY, NO, THE ONLY WAY I COULD GIVE HIM AN APOLOGY WAS TO FIND HIS DEAD BODY AND SOB BESIDE IT, AND HE COULD'NT EVEN HEAR IT! Y'KNOW WHY?! BECAUSE ITS TOO LATE FRIES. HE'S DEAD, SHE'S DEAD.." he pointed towards Puffball.

"AND NO MATTER HOW FUCKING LOUD YOU SCREAM, THEY CAN'T HEAR YOU. THEY WON'T HEAR YOU EVER AGAIN!"

A deathly silence hung over the two, as Coiny panted for air. Fries stared at him in disbelief; warm tears still slicking down his cheeks.

"No matter...how much you scream, or beg, or cry, nothing...can make them hear you." Coiny stared once more, before turning away. He didn't even notice the tears that were already coming down his face;

He missed him.

He still missed him.

Gelatin mumbled sleepily. His entire body felt unusually warm, feeling bits of his jello melt below him. Which was a bit..unusual.

Wasn't he inside?

As he opened his eyes, he flinched at the sudden sunlight that bursted through his vision. He squinted painfully, but quickly realized that..

That was the sun.

He was outside...

Then...where were the buildings..? The..

The roof.

As his eyes adjusted to the light, he heard a sudden voice that made his blood run cold.

"You're awake!"

Gelatin quickly tried to sit up, but suddenly felt the rope that squeezed his arms and legs together. His heart began to race, as he struggled to free himself from the tight- and rather itchy- ropes that held him down. As he did, Pin slowly paced by him, a wild grin plastered on her face. Gelatin froze.

It was her.

It was her all along.

"Oh, gosh, I forgot that you're just...4? 5? Ah, well, you see, these are called, 'ropes', little one, and they can be used for...pretty much anything!" Pin grinned. Gelatin gritted his teeth angrily, as he glared daggers towards her.

"You...you..."

"Murderer? Bitch? Dirty little liar..?" She leaned down towards his level. "I know, I know. You really want to shoot all of these colorful nicknames towards me, and, honestly, I wouldn't blame you. But, sometimes, you have to make even the largest sacrifices so that the end result will be...wonderful." She whispered. This sent chills down Gelatin's spine; what did she mean by that?

"Oh, but oh well, we can't leave the oddballs out. I was so surprised that you survived..." she frowned. "But then I realized that you were immune to BUG POISON, for starters."

"YOU MONSTER!" He screamed out. He began to thrash around frantically, no longer feeling anger, nor sadness..but fear. "YOU DISGUSTING MONSTER! HELP ME!"

Pin felt a laugh bubble up, as she watched the smaller figure struggling pathetically.

"You really think I'm gonna let you go? Do you even fathom how...RICH and VALUABLE your body could be for the garden? Or maybe.." she licked her lips. Gelatin's face suddenly lost its color, as he felt his heart pound harder and harder inside of his chest, to the point where it hurt him.

"Ah Well Gelatin. You had a good 5 years, right? Hopefully you can go tie your legs with Firey once again..."

"No..no NO NO! NO PIN, PLEASE!" Gelatin began to yell. Was this because he didn't want to live without his hands?!

"FRIES! FRIES, HELP ME!" The words suddenly escaped in a sob. Pin's eyes widened, as she nearly stumbled back from shock. Never, in her existence...has she seen Gelatin act this way.

"PLEASE FRIES! HELP ME! I WANT FRIES HERE!" He begged.

Pin shook her head, as she began to drag him towards the edge of the roof. The wind danced through the air, as Gelatin continued to scream. No longer five, no longer a mature, joyful object, he was only a baby; a baby, who was defenseless, and needed his...

"FRIES! PLEASE, HELP ME!" He wailed out. He curled his knees closer to his body, as he shivered from the icy breeze that stung him harshly.

"FRIES!"

"Oh, SHUT IT WILL YOU?!" Pin yanked his head upwards, and held his face close to hers. "NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU. NO ONE!"

A chuckle escaped her lips, as she slowly turned his heads downwards. The tall, pointy fence stood proudly below them, and suddenly...

"So, you want all of those, don't you?" She pointed towards the growtatoes that sprouted from the green, twirling plants. He shook his head.

"P-Please Pin, please, I-I Just..." he took a shaky breath in, tears pouring down his cheeks. "I-I just want Fries.."

"Fries?" She perked up.

"Oh! Okay! Well, you'll have all the fries you want down there!"

With one massive swing, she hurled Gelatin over the side of the roof, watching him shrink to the field below. His scream of terror began to fade away, as she gave him a dismissive wave.

"Bye, Gelatin!"

Suddenly, a loud, squish-like sound splattered through the air. A disgusting hack escaped from Gelatin's mouth, as he felt his limbs stiffen up. Pin peeked down, and quickly, she bursted into a giggling-fit.

The sticks of the fence plunged through Gelatin's chest, a green-like substance squirting down his face. Pained gasps and coughs erupted from his mouth, as he began to twitch. He gritted his teeth, as he opened his mouth..

"F...Fries...."

The twitching lasted for a moment, until....

Darkness.
