Chapter 3
[Fear's POV]
I nearly sighed in relief when Time said that she was okay with me sitting next to her, but I somehow managed to hold on to the calm disinterest I was projecting instead of my usual fear inducing pheromones. I casually slid into the empty chair next to her and fought to keep myself from cheering. Time looked at me with her sparkly emerald green eyes with those copper specks swirling in them and frowned at my perusal. She pulled out her Telepathy Book and proceeded to scrawl a note inside. A slight beep emitted from my schoolbag, the frequency too high for a human to hear, but perfectly heard by my super sensitive ears. I pulled out my own book and read her note.
What in oblivion are you doing here? she wrote.
Oddly enough, I wrote back. My birth father sent me to this school. I wasn't planning on searching for you here.
She looked at me sceptically, then nodded, still frowning. She continued.
There's no such thing as Coincidence, right? she wrote.
Nope, I wrote back. Never heard of an immortal by that name before.
Then you know that this was a setup, too, she continued.
I figured, I wrote back. But something doesn't add up, how-
"Mr Denoveli, Ms Mongruess," the teacher spoke from the front of the class." Would you two care to tell the class exactly what is more important in those books of yours than the work we're doing on the board?"
How about complications that might affect the future of humanity, but we can't tell you a word about it or it will cause a gap in the space-time continuum and remove all of the life in the universe in the blink of an eye, but you will no longer be alive to even contemplate those type of repercussions, so... I thought to myself.
Instead I replied," Ma'am, she offered to help me catch up with the work that I had missed."
The teacher looked surprised by that."Ms Claire, what was the need for such an offer?"
Time replied,"Ma'am, he looked lost, so I offered." She shrugged as if to say that the rest is history. The teacher accepted the explanation and continued.
"Today we will be discussing the famous works of The Bard himself, William Shakespeare."
I fought to keep the grin off my face while Time gave me the look that meant that I had to poker face it or I will be royally doomed. Historical literature? Me likey. Me really likey.
I turned to the board to see which of his famous works were we doing.
At the same moment, both Time and I groaned out loud. Out of all the many plays he had written, we were doing "Romeo & Juliet"! I slumped in my chair while Time ducked her face so no one saw her amusement at my blatant disregard for all things romantic.
Sure, it was one thing to be the subject of the office gossip by shipping me with my boss, Time, but I've avoided all things romantic since. I do like her, just not in that sense. Time travels alone. No companions, no best friends.
No relationships.
I was snapped back to the present by the teacher tapping the board with a raised eyebrow. I sunk further into my seat. School had just taken a turn for the worst.
"Mr Denoveli, would you be so kind as to tell the rest of the class what is the problem?"
I smiled weakly."Ma'am, I'm not a fan of romances. This one in particular, unfortunately."
I watched her face turn from bright-as-sunshine to stone-cold in an instant."Be that as it may, it is the set book for this term. Hence, reading it is crucial, and I will not have a student refuse to read it due to their hate of romance!"
"It's not so much hate as abhorrence..." I muttered under my breath, earning an exasperated eye roll from Time.
"Regardless, you will read the book, and I want an essay describing the storyline due tomorrow."
I smiled slightly and raised my hand innocently." Ma'am, and if I already know the storyline?"
Time glared at me from under her lashes and responded with a biting tone."Then write it, then reference to the book for correct facts." She smiled slightly to take away the bite from her tone and I understood her anger was just a cover. I nodded and proceeded to do as she instructed, with the teacher smiling at us both at how maturely we handled the situation. I noted down the whole storyline (spoiler: Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Romeo and Juliet die. In that exact order) along with my personal opinion on certain parts of the play and storyline. I finished with half an hour to spare, so I pulled out my copy and spent five minutes fact searching, as instructed. I then proceeded to translate it into my immortal tongue. Thirty pages in, the teacher got curious as to what I was doing. She walked up the aisle to stop directly in front of me. I quietly put the pages away and handed her my essay, nodding silently at Time so that she understood that the order had been followed. She nodded imperceptibly back. The teacher slowly read my essay, then looked me over with curiosity.
"I must admit, this is the most in-depth essay as I've seen them. You pointed out some major topics of interest as well. I have to say, I'm impressed."
She nodded and continued with the class. Time subtly sighed in relief, so softly only I heard her.
//A/N: New Chapter. Yes, my class did Romeo and Juliet. And yes, I felt like Fear and Time whenever we had to do it. Just so you know, Time felt the same way about R&J as Fear did, she just hides it better ;DD
Anyway, comment your character and what they look like, etc. and I'll see if I can add them.
I'll just be busy dying in school.
Denograde out ;)
