Chapter 16
Time
Time smiled slightly as she walked into their next class, before it starts to falter. She knows that the second phase of Fear's transitioning is mood swings, when he jumps through more emotions than he could express.
And she knew that he was well within that phase. It happened to be one of the two phases he didn't feel physically. Or notice, mainly. He was going to notice her mood, which would definitely lead to the realisation that the second phase has begun, which would send him spiralling into a depression before he tries to hide it.
Time walks up to her next class, each step feeling like a mile. She looked at the classroom before walking inside.
Today was going to be a long day.
Time smiled in relief the moment the bell rang. As she had predicted, Fear had noticed her reaction and, when he realised why, he had sunken into a depressive state.
She ran to catch up with Fear, who was speed walking away, trying to escape. Time smirked and ran, overenthusiastically tackling him from the back. He glared up at her "Cat ate the Canary" grin that she had just flashed at him, before groaning. He obviously knew what he needed to do to get her off of him, but he simply did not feel up to it. Instead, he just lay on the ground, sighing miserably. Time shifted on top of him until she was completely sitting upright on his back, looking over at him in undisguised worry. She proceeded to poke him in the sides, earning a groan and some half-hearted attempts to remove her from his back, which failed miserably on his part. He planted his face firmly in the ground in a bid attempt to ignore her, much to her amusement. She slowly got off of him and offered him a hand, using her other to dust them both off. They both chuckled silently, looking at each other with fondness. Time gave Fear a hug, nesting her head on his shoulder.
Fear sighed before returning the hug. "I'm still mad at you," Time fought against chuckling at his pout. He always did that when he tried to make a point. Key word being tried.
"Okay," Time smiled. "So what should I do to make it better?"
"Ice cream!" Fear shouted out, waving his arms around like a child, making them both crack up with laughter, until he suddenly stilled.
"Oh," Time realised. "You won't be able to eat it anymore, will you?"
Fear sighed, rubbing his forehead, before looking at Time with a smirk, strands of hair falling over his eyes in a way most would find alluring, but to Time, it was endearing.
"Imagine explaining to your parents that you can't eat anymore," Time smirked when he groaned.
"With her overprotective instincts, I'm probably going to be in so much trouble," Fear sighed, looking down.
Time motioned for him to be quiet, reaching into her pocket. She pulled out a carefully wrapped square, motioning for him to take it. Fear nodded, understanding the dangers of it being found, discreetly hiding it in his pocket. Fear's driver arrived as Time walked away.
None of them noticed the shadow slinking away, having seen the exchange.
