Chapter 16
September 17th
It had been a day since they had returned to the White House. Jackie lay in bed, before she felt this slight pain in her stomach. She rolled onto her back before the pain became worse. Jackie sat up, panting. The pain began to get stronger. Jack would either be asleep or downstairs. She cried out in pain. Before long, Tish who was just about to come and wake up the First Lady burst through the door.
"Mrs Kennedy?" Tish; for the first time ever climbed onto Jackie's bed to assist her. "Mrs Kennedy?". Tish kept on asking. It was pointless, Jackie wouldn't speak for the pain. "Tish, call the hospital" Jackie cried. Tish nodded before running to the phone to call George Washington Hospital.
"Hello? 911!" Tish shouted down the phone. "We need assistance at the White House. The First Lady is in great pain". After hanging up, Tish got on the phone to Marine One. Before long, Jackie was being carried out to the helicopter, which sat on the South Lawn. Screaming in pain, Jackie was flown to the hospital.
Her condition was unknown to her.
Down in the Oval, Jack was in business with Bobby and Lyndon. Bobby and Lyndon argued constantly about Vietnam, while Jack sat; ignored.
Mrs Lincoln knocked on the door before entering. "Mrs Lincoln?" Jack asked. "I'm sorry to interrupt Mr President. Mrs Kennedy's social secretary was on the phone. Mrs Kennedy has been flown to George Washington Hospital". Jack was shocked. "Why?" He rose from his seat, throwing his glasses in any random direction. Just missing Bobby.
"She didn't say. She said Mrs Kennedy was experiencing strong stomach pains and needed immediate hospitalization". Jack wondered what to do. He picked up his jacket. "I'm sorry gentlemen. This meeting will need to be postponed to another time". Before Lyndon could say "Get back here!", Jack was in a car heading straight to GW Hospital.
Upon arrival on the private floor, Jack was greeted by Dr Walsh. "Dr Walsh is my wife alright?" Jack asked. Dr Walsh nodded.
"We've done tests on Mrs Kennedy. We have some news for you" Dr Walsh, had a slight smile on his face. Jack became worried.
"Mrs Kennedy, is a month pregnant" Dr Walsh congratulated the stunned President.
"But, how did she not have morning sickness?" Jack asked. Dr Walsh explained everything. "It is a rare case when a woman doesn't experience such effective symptoms. We do suggest, she takes some time off in case sickness does come" Dr Walsh explained. Jack agreed. He headed into Jackie's room.
He found his wife, gazing out the window before she turned around to face him. "Oh Jack" Jackie embraced her husband. They passionately kissed. "Jack did you hear the news?" Jackie asked, grinning. Jack beamed. "Of course I did. Why else do you think I would be smiling?" Jack joked. Jackie giggled.
"We'll need to tell the kids there is a new baby Kennedy due" Jackie smiled. Jack nodded. He said he'd tell them tonight. "Can we go to Oak Springs for some time off?" Jackie asked. Jack agreed. The main question that pondered both of them was, when did Jackie get pregnant? And how could the baby be healthy if she'd drunk wine since then?
However, the main thing was that Jackie and the baby were fine.
