Chapter 5
Nikunj Kothari spoke out delightfully,” Our school has performed great in boards exams. But some students bought glory to the institution. We decided to not only facilitate the toppers of class 10 and class 12, but also they will get a 3-day free trip”.
Hearing Nikunj toppers jumped in happiness while other students looked at them with awe or sour faces ready to burst with Jealousy any moment.
“Management is sending me to the trip with students and I have your name to accompany me on the trip,” Sarita Devi spoke out to Sanyukta.
Sanyukta stuttered,” Ma'am… I, you want me to accompany you?”.
“Yes, I know that you are the most responsible person among the new generation of teachers. Secondly, you don't have family to look after, therefore you are the best choice for this job. Now don't make excuses we are leaving tomorrow for the trip” Sarita dictated all in one go.
“But ma'am, where are we going?” Sanyukta again spoke, regaining her lost voice.
“We are going to Ladakh” Sarita replied, making Sanyukta's heart tremble.
A total of 10 students including 5 student toppers from class 10 and 5 others class 12 toppers got the chance to make their way to Ladakh.
“Madam ji, Can I sit beside you?” A cheerful boy asked Sanyukta.
Sanyukta replied with a straight NO.
“Madam ji all the window seat got occupied, I need a window seat otherwise I will puke on someone” the boy reasoned sincerely.
“You have thought before making me fall in the school auditorium,” Sanyukta retorted.
“Sorry, Madam ji” Sheryas replied guiltily.
Sanyukta gave a seat to him next to her, these days, no matter how much she wanted to say NO to people, this new Sanyukta finds it difficult to deny anyone. Her hopes got shattered horrendously; therefore she finds it hard to break hopes of a needy person.
“Madam, see are these mountains the best thing that one can” Sheryas pointed out to the scenery outside the mini bus they were traveling in.
“Shreyas, be quiet I am not interested in watching these mountains” Sanyukta spoke irked by Sheryas constant blabbering, he seemed to excited to see the outskirts of Ladakh.
“Ma'am you are so boring, I pray for the man who will marry you” Shreyas spoke out blatantly.
“Behave yourself Shreyas!” Sanyukta exclaimed, losing her temper.
“Madam ji, you are so strange, I was making a joke, and you took it literally” Shreyas confessed his intention.
“You being the second topper of school is the biggest joke, I ever came across” Sanyukta responded.
“Ma'am, I took my inspiration from Vardhan sir. He changed my life in the best possible” an emotional Shreyas spoke out.
Hearing Vardhan's name a storm brewing inside Sanyukta calmed getting replaced by an instant smile.
She looked out of the window and then bile starting to rise in her throat. The memories of her honeymoon 3 years started rushing in her mind, making her nauseous.
“Madam ji what happened?” Shreyas spoke as he noticed Sanyukta going pale.
“I need to puke!” Sanyukta exclaimed.
She then emptied her stomach sitting at to the window berth as Shreyas quickly made her sit on his seat.
A head rush and an uneasiness occupied her. To her surprise, Shreyas gave her some candies to feel better.
Sanyukta noticed Shreyas was similar to another man she has met before. The man who stole her heart, Randhir's mini copy stood next to her in form of Sheryas who seemed arrogant and a total jerk at first but then his gentle and caring side showed another side of his personality.
Thoughts of Randhir made again a way to Sanyukta's subconscious. She looked out to distract herself, but then the outside view of Ladakh made her remember her Randhir.
She closed her eyes to ease off herself from his memory but, again to her dismay his image got projected in her mind. No matter how she tried to escape him, his memories Fathomly made ways to occupy her mind.
Tears started dropping out of Sanyukta's eyes, as now she couldn't bear his thoughts in her mind.
“Madam ji stop crying we are almost there” Sheryas assured unaware of his Teacher's silent suffering.
Sanyukta opened her eyes and Shreyas spoke out,” Madamji eat these fennel seeds, you will feel good”.
Overwhelmed with emotions, Sanyukta patted Shreyas's hair in appreciation.” Be like this always, be kind to others, I am feeling really proud of the man you are turning into "Sanyukta spoke out just like Vardhan used to praise and encourage Sanyukta during her college days.
The bus stopped in front of a Lodge, everyone evacuated the suffocating bus to feel the fresh air of mountains, Sanyukta is the last person exiting the metal vehicle, her face is blank, her stomach is still twisting in knots.
It is said Journey is more beautiful than the destination itself. Shreyas has changed drastically, do people really change from a devil to angel? Do you believe love and kind can do so? What's waiting next for Sanyukta? Will memories keep ruining Sanyukta's peace of mind, or will she find some closure to the daunting past? Stay tuned to the story.
