Prologue
Bottle after bottle, tick after tick as the clock counts the seconds till midnight. No, it's not beer, I wish, it's actually apple cider since I'm not of age yet. Not like anyone cared until I got all this money, and neither did I. The clock showed 2 hours were remaining. The new year would come, and so would a new me.
*Pop* Air fizzled out of the next bottle. No, I'm not diabetic either, I'm actually pretty fit but, I had a rough night and needed something to get the mind off of it. I dont want to think about it, so having a sugar crash would be amazing.
*bottle shatters* The only reason people even know about me is because of my money. And that's all they see. I only see a child cursed with the burdens of an adult. A multibillion dollar company left in the hands of a 14 year old child.
*heavy sigh* I hate it. Yeah, sure I could live my life comfortably, but money doesnt buy everything. I wanted a quaint and quiet life in the suburbs or a cabin in a secluded forest. But now I have a small mansion in the luxurious hills of the 1%.
*TV blaring* I know it sounds bratty, but I didnt want any association with my parents.
*scoff* If you can call them that. When I was able to walk, I was able to be an adult. I wasn't taught, I was conditioned. If I did something bad, I wasn't told why it was bad. No, I was hit. It told me that if I did it again, the same thing would happen.
TV: 5! 4! 3! 2! 1! HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!
*loud fireworks and gun shots* There go the entitled brats. With the guns and payed for licenses. I cheered softly but didnt care. I got up and walked towards my shower. I had barely noticed the blood caking the ground and my clothes. Didnt change how much I cared.
*turns on shower* When school goes back everyone and their mother is gonna try to get me in their friend group. The almighty Ronin O' Brian. From nobody to wealthy. Guess I could hire a body guard.
*Finishes shower and puts new clothes on* Guess I could play some video games or browse Reddit. Maybe get those last achievements in Horizon: Zero Dawn.
*knock knock knock* Great, probably the brats from the next door. They think just cause they live here they can get away with everything.
*knock knock knock* "Coming!" I yelled and trudge towards the door. I opened the door and hated what I saw next.
Neko Woman: Please, do me a favor and take my children?
She was bleeding. Gun shot wounds dotted her body. The idiots shot a human and didnt even care enough to call and ambulance or even put an anonymous tip to the police. I hate these people, racist whites who just think they're better than everybody, even when they are worse than most poor neighorhoods.
Me: Get inside.
I tried to helped her by picking her up but she refused.
Neko Woman: No, go back for them. They're underneath the old train station. Please, save them.
She pleaded. She didnt care for herself, only her children. A true mother.
Me: Stay here, try to breath. I will.
I started running towards the old train station, making a 911 call on the way over there.
*faint whimpers*
I knew where they were and how to get in. I used to play here all the time when I was little. That's why I have some of those scars on my back. Rusted nails stuck out like knives down under those floor boards. I crawled under there and turned on my phones flashlight.
Neko child: GET AWAY!
She hissed at me a few times while cradling her presumably younger sister. From the very minimal light from my phone she seemed to have a rust coloured hair whilst the younger one had a faded midnight blue hair colour
Me: Please, come with me. Your mother sent me to get you. I dont want you to get hurt more than you do.
Neko Child: No! Youre just going to trick us like the others!
They are 6 at the max. Already having their childhoods ripped away from them.
Me: Please, if I hurt you or make you uncomfortable, you can hurt me all you want. I'm not like the others.
I gave her an option. Come with me and trust my word. Or risk being found here, which is a popular place for the children after I had found it.
Neko child: Ok.
She crawled out telling her sister to come out as well. I started leading them back to my house, gently holding their hands, where an ambulance was speeding off. And a police car was close to leaving.
Me: Wait!
The officer stepped out and walked towards me.
Officer: Do you know about what happened here or who lives here?
Me: I live here, and I know something about the woman who was here.
Officer: Oh, that animal. Well I guess I hear it.
Me: *fake smiling and gritting my teeth* Well, a little past midnight I heard gunshots from somewhere in the neighborhood. The woman-
Officer: Animal. They are not woman.
Me: Yeah whatever. That's all.
Officer: You know, I could arrest you for accessory to murder as she was dead on your porch.
Me: Not really, I have security cameras taping everything that happens around my home. So I know that would prove me innocent, although your bias isn't proving anything to your side.
Officer: . . . Have a good day sir.
He walked off.
Me: I hate this race. We're worse than the animals we hunt.
I looked down to the girls that were still there.
Me: Cmon girls, let's go inside. I'll get you guys ready for bed.
I took them inside. They wanted to take a shower and so I let them. I didnt care that they took an hour. I could foot the bill for their needs. They came out with the over sized shirts I had given them. I assumed they wanted to eat and they very much did. I had made Lentils with Sausage earlier that day but never ate it, so I reheated it and gave them some. Man, they actually liked it? I never did.
Me: Alright, it's late, and I think you should go to bed.
I took them up stairs and showed them their room. It had a bed big enough for three adults.
Neko child 1: Can we sleep with you?
Me: What? Why?
Neko Child 2: Our mom always let us.
She said it so faintly and a tear rolled down her now clean face. I wiped it away.
Me: Its ok. I'll let you guys tonight.
We went to my room and I pulled the sheets so that they could get in as well. They slept on either side of me, purring as they fell asleep.
I will help you no matter what.
