Chapter 8: There lived a boy in a castle
The front door was unlocked so I walked in and prepared my weapons for the war zone I was inevitably walking in to.
Right away, I saw a mess. There were feathers strewn all across the entryway, along with some sticky red substance and a stray hot-dog.
I followed the trail of feathers into the living room, which is where everything was going down. I saw 5 little kids jumping up and down on a figure curled up in a ball on the couch. None of them had noticed my presence yet.
I took this opportunity to survey the mess. There was even more feathers and what I know realized was ketchup in the living room. One of the end tables was lying on the floor. Pillows and blankets were everywhere, and there was a movie playing on the TV that I guarantee none of them were watching anymore.
I cleared a path and walked over to the kids. I brought my fingers to my lips and whistled as loud as I could. "Hey! Get off him!"
Almost immediately, all the kids scrambled off the person and faced me. "Who are you?" a little girl with her front teeth missing asked me. "I'm your babysitter for the evening. Now, whoever cleans up this mess the fastest gets ice cream for dinner. Go!"
The kids ran around me to go get cleaning supplies. Ha! That works every time. Kids are so simple. I looked over at the couch and saw the figure getting up. Turns out it was Parker. "Thank god you're here. They almost killed me when I tried to give them hot dogs."
"Yeah I know. I heard that girly scream you let out." I laughed at his appearance. His hair and clothes were disheveled from the kids. "That was not me! " he exclaimed, but I could see the hint of blush that was creeping up his cheeks.
"Anyways, how did you do that? They never listen to me when I tell them to clean up."
"Kids are simple. Bribe them with the thought of something sugary and they will do anything you tell them to. You also have to appear confident and like you won't let them bull doze all over you, which from the looks of it, is what you do."
"Whatever," he mumbled. Running his fingers through his hair, he quickly fixed it and then grabbed his keys. "I'll be back around 10. Just keep them occupied while I'm gone. Also, don't let Haru have any sugar. You don't want to know what happens when he has some."
He practically sprinted out of the house when he finished talking to me. There's no way his siblings could actually be that bad. They were already cleaning up their mess. I grabbed some of the supplies they got out and started helping them clean up the mess they made.
After an hour, we finally got everything cleaned up and put away. "So, what do you guys want for dinner?"
"Burgers!" They all shouted in unison. Thank god none of them said ice cream. I wasn't actually going to give it to them. I just said that so they would clean up.
"Alright I'll make you guys some, but before we do that I need to know all your names and ages. Let's start with you." I pointed the little boy on the far left.
"I'm Akira and I'm 8."
And it went like that for the rest of the kids. After Akira, there was the twins. Jason and Ami (5), Jackson (4), and the youngest was Haru, 2.
They were all adorable in there own ways. Akira had really light skin, a lot lighter than his siblings, and you could tell he inherited more of the Japanese genes than the rest of his siblings. Everyone else had some form of chocolate/ tan skin.
They did, however, all have the same ember eyes and dark, curly hair. You could tell they were all siblings.
Anyways, I got to work with some help from the kids. Since it was my first time in the kitchen, they helped me get all the supplies out that I needed. The older kids were more eager to help me than the younger ones.
Since Jackson and Haru were too young to help me, I took them out in the living room and turned on the movie Cars for them to keep them occupied while the food cooked.
Since I didn't want the kitchen to become a mess, I gave each of the kids certain jobs. Since he was the oldest, I let Akira help me cook the burgers. Jason was in charge of washing the dishes, and Ami was in charge of putting all the ingredients away after we used them.
With this system, it didn't take that long for all the food to cook. I put the last burger on a plate and turned off the stove. The kids had done a good job helping me, and they hadn't acted up yet. Parker was wrong.
Kids could actually be very responsible, as long as you kept an eye on them.
These kids aren't horrible, he just doesn't know how to handle them. "Jackson! Haru! The foods ready!" I yelled out to the living room. I heard footsteps come running in. Jackson had Haru on his back and set him down at the entrance of the kitchen.
Since Haru was still young, I had to help him into his high chair. I just gave him a plain burger, no buns, cheese, or other condiments. It was mashed up and sitting in a bowl waiting for him to eat. The other kids dug in while I helped Haru eat his food.
Parker never told me if his littlest brother could eat solid foods or if he could even eat by himself yet, so I was paying extra close attention to him to make sure nothing bad happened.
After Haru ate, I wolfed down my burger and helped the kids wash the rest of the dishes. I was slightly amazed that they've actually been listening to me. Normally kids only listen for a little bit before they get distracted by something.
"Alright, now who wants to go play a game?" I exclaimed. All the kids started shouting in excitement. I had brought Monopoly because I wasn't sure what they liked, and everyone liked Monopoly.
We all gathered in the living room and I got the game out. They were all fascinated by it. Apparently, they don't play board games around here. Once I explained the rules and we started playing, the kids had fun.
Haru sat in my lap while we played so I could keep an eye on him. The game only lasted for half an hour before the kids got bored. "Can we watch a movie now?" Jackson asked. "Sure, I actually brought 2 with me for you guys to watch."
I reached over and dug the DVD's out of my backpack. "I have Moana or Coco. Which one?"
"Moana."
"Moana."
"Coco."
"Why can't we just watch something on Netflix? DVD's are so ten years ago?" Akira said.
I looked at him in mock hurt. "DVD's are funner to use. Plus, it's an experience. Movies are better on DVDs. With that being said, we are going to watch Moana since it got the most votes."
I popped in the DVD and left Akira in charge if his siblings while I went to get snacks. I made some popcorn and got the Sour Patch Kids I found stashed in the back of a cupboard.
When I got back to the living room. the kids were all fighting over where to sit. "I want to sit in the middle! I'm the oldest!"
"I want to sit there. I'm the only girl. Plus, I'm not an idiot."
"Guys!" I shouted. They paused for a moment to look up at me. "I will sit in the middle and the twins can sit on my left and Jackson and Akira can sit on my right. Haru will be sitting in my lap. Do you got that?"
"Yes," they all mumbled. After a couple minutes, we all got settled down and I pressed play.

The credits came across the screen and I carefully got up, trying not to wake Haru. He was asleep in my arms while I searched for a bedroom. Parker should've given me a tour before he left.
I found one that happened to have baby stuff and a crib in it, so I put Haru in there and walked back out to get the rest of the kids.
I wonder if Scottie has any siblings. He must since his house has a room meant for a baby.
Everyone else was either awake or half asleep, so it wasn't that hard to get the older kids to go to sleep. Jackson, however, refused to go to bed.
"Jackson buddy, it's time to go to bed."
"But I don't want to," he pouted. He crossed his arms and sat down, refusing to move.
"I know you don't. Going to bed means you can't have anymore fun right?"
"Yeah, and I wanna keep playing." Well shit. What was I supposed to do with a kid who didn't want to go to bed? Normally in situations like these, the kids is already tired and falling asleep.
But Jackson is wide awake.
"How about I tell you a story while you play games on my phone?" He slowly nodded his head and walked over and sat down next to me. Hopefully doing something calming will help him fall asleep.
"Once upon a time, there lived a little boy in a castle. He loved to have fun, it was his favorite thing to do in the entire world. But one day all his toys disappeared."
"He started to cry. The little boy's mother heard his cries and came rushing to him asking 'what's wrong honey?' The little boy explained to her what happened. He told her that he hadn't done anything wrong and he didn't know why that happened."
I glanced down to see that Jackson's head was now resting on my lap, his eyes half open. "What happened next?" he mumbled and snuggled closer. "Well, the little boy was heartbroken. He walked around for weeks crying about his lost toys. Then one day while out in the village, he saw a poor little girl playing with a doll that looked a lot like his."
"He ran up and took the toy from her, and she started crying. Her mother came out and yelled at him for taking something from someone less fortunate then him. It was then that he realized there is more important things in the world than having fun."
"So, he returned to the castle and told his mother what had happened. They both started making toys and handed them out to the little kids in the village."
A soft snore came from my lap. Yes, it worked!
As quietly as I could manage, I slid out from Jackson and put a pillow in my place.
"That was a nice story," a voice whispered from somewhere in the house.
"SHIT!" I placed a hand over my heart to try and calm it down. "Who's there?" I whisper-yelled. There was nothing around me I could use as a weapon. "It's Parker dumbass."
"Oh thank god," I mumbled. If somebody had broken in, I probably would've pissed myself out of fear and then grabbed the kids and run. There's no way I could beat a criminal in a fight.
"You almost gave me a heart attack. You're lucky that your brother is sleeping right behind me or else I would so be beating your ass right now."
"Oohh so scary! You can leave now, I can take my brother up to his room."
"I'm confused. I thought this was Scottie's house. Why would your brother have his own room here? Also, if this is his house, were are him and his parents?"
I saw him rub the back of his neck. "Scottie's parent's are on vacation and Scottie is out late working, he'll be home soon. And I meant one of the guest rooms." Makes sense to me. I'm also too tired to figure out if he's lying or not.
After Parker came back down from putting his brother to sleep, he grabbed his wallet and handed me the money for babysitting. "So how much of the story did you hear?" I asked. I never heard his car pull in the driveway or the front door opening.
"I got here around the little boy losing his toys part," he stated.
"So, since the beginning then?"
"Yup!" he smirked. "Why didn't you interrupt me then?" He seemed like a real creep right now. Just standing in the dark listening to me tell a story to his brother. "Because I wanted to know what happened, I'm a very curious person. Where do you hear that story anyways?"
"Not that it's any of your business, but my mother used to tell it to me when I was little and couldn't fall asleep."
"My mother used to give me warm milk," he replied. That's something else my mother did. She heated up some milk and let me drink it while she told me the story.
Who knew we would actually have something in common with one another besides the fact that we hate each other.
"Well, I have to go. My parents want me home by 10:30."
"Bye."
I left the house and got in my car. I sigh escaped my mouth. Today had been full of twists and turns, some good, some not the best, but at the end of the day I was happy. I was able to hang around Scottie, I got a 97 on a surprise math quiz, and I got to babysit some very nice kids.
All in all, it was a good day.
And a very, very, very small part of me buried deep within my body was slightly happy that Parker wasn't a complete asshole for once. He was semi-nice to me, although I suspect it's because he wanted something from me.
Either way I still hate him, but he's gotten 1% more bearable to be around.
After a couple more minutes of resting in my car, I finally left the house and drove home. My parents were getting ready for bed when I came home. I told them good night and headed upstairs to take a shower and go to bed.
That night, I dreamt of my birthday party and how awesome it was going to be.

AHHH!! This is honestly one of my favorite chapters I've written so far. I know nothing major happened, but it's more of a feel good chapter to show everyone's different sides.
It might not seem like it right now, but Blaze and Parker do still hate each other. They are just being civil because they need something from the other. Their love story will go slower than my other books, but I'm not going to drag it out to 100 chapters.
