Chapter 28: You wouldn't understand

As soon as I walked in, I was bombarded with questions from Andrew. "Blaze, you're my friend. Tell me that I don't suck at playing soccer," he whined.

I thought for a moment before answering. "Well, I'm not really sure. I mean you do tend to look like a newborn giraffe walking for the first time when you play, but sometimes you make it in the goal, so I guess there's that."

Andrew looked surprised. "Ugh! How could you do this to me? I thought we were friends! And here I was ready to take a bullet for you if I ever need to." I just rolled my eyes and sat down next to Scottie.

Andrew is being way too over dramatic right now, which isn't unusual. Everyone was laughing at how dramatic he was being. Scottie wrapped his arm around my shoulders and placed a quick kiss on my cheek, smiling at me.

The way we were sitting I didn't have to look up at him for once, which was a relief to my neck. "I love your costume," he whispered in my ear. A small smile crept onto my face. "I'm glad, it took me a while to think of one."

Suddenly, we were rudely interrupted by Arabella's loud shouting.

"So was it just a coincidence both of you dressed like pirates or was that on purpose or something?" she asked. My eyes shot up and I searched the room to see who else was dressed like a pirate. I already knew it wasn't Sophia, Andrew, or Scottie, so I quickly scanned everyone else.

Sure enough, sitting 2 spots to my right, was Parker, dressed in an almost identical pirate costume to me, only a male version.

"No!" we both shouted at the same time. I sent him a glare. Now people would be suspicious. "I just liked this costume, I have no idea why that idiot is wearing one too," I said, motioning over to Parker.

He frowned at the ground, trying to come up with a response. I swear to god I don't know why we're wearing the same costume. It was purely a coincidence.

Parker never ended up saying anything, instead, he drank from the beer bottle he was holding. Since everyone was here now, they decided to play some games. I wasn't in the mood for another truth or dare game, especially after what happened last time, so I opted to sit this one out.

They were using an empty beer bottle and spinning it to decide who would go. So far, Arabella, Andrew, and Maddison have all gone. Since she was the last one to go, Maddie spun the bottle, landing on Parker.

"Truth or dare Knight," she said, smirking at him. I could've sworn I saw her briefly glance at me, but I think that sip of spiked fruit punch I had earlier was messing with my mind.

"Truth," he mumbled.

"Do you have someone you like?" she asked him. Oh no, I wonder if he'll answer. I mean, I know the truth, but I don't know if any of his other friends do. He probably isn't going to admit it to them.

"Yes," he said, shocking everyone in the room, including me. "Well who is she?" she asked eagerly.

Parker suddenly sat up straighter, a smirk coming on his face. "Nope, that is top secret information. Like I would ever tell you guys. Andrew over here would probably start planning our wedding right that second. Besides, it's not that serious. It's just a little crush."

Oh, poor Parker. Don't you know it's not just 'a little crush?' The way you talk about her makes her seem like a gift sent from God himself. And there's no denying the way his eyes glaze over whenever he talks about how pretty he thinks she is.

"He's not wrong," Andrew said with a chuckle. And so, the game went on. Everybody forgot about Parker's little confession, but it seemed like Parker never relaxed again. His shoulders were always rigid, and he stopped drinking his beer. Maybe he wasn't in the mood to play anymore.

After a few more spins, someone skinny dipping in the pool, and a couple of weird confessions, they all grew tired of truth or dare and moved on to Never Have I Ever. This game didn't seem too bad, so I decided to join in.

Scottie scooted over a little so I could join there little circle again.

"The rules are: everyone gets 1 pass and you drink whenever you have done something. No cheating, cheaters have to drink 3 shots of tequila, no passing it up."

We all nodded our heads, eager to start the game. Scottie handed me a cup filled with some more of the spiked punch, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He wrapped his arm around me, which was nice.

It left me feeling warm, but there was something off about it. I don't know what, and I don't know why, but it just was. This has happened a couple times in the last week, which is how long we've been dating.

It's weird, because I never got this feeling when he was close to me before, so I don't know why I'm getting it now. It must be because his arm is gripping my shoulder a little too tight as he laughs with his friends. Yeah, that's it.

And so the game of Never Have I Ever commenced.

We were taking turns going, going counter clockwise around our circle.

"Never have I ever gotten naked and streaked through the school," Sophia started the game. Andrew was the only one who took a drink.

"Seriously?" I questioned him with an eyebrow raised.

"What?" he said, shrugging his shoulders. "Someone dared me to for a $10 McDonalds gift card." I shook my head, laughing. I've learned to never question any of Andrew's actions, because 95% of the time they make no sense whatsoever.

"Next person," Sophia shouted.

Scottie happened to be sitting next to her, which meant it was his turn. "Never have I ever had a crush on someone I wasn't supposed to."

This time Arabella, Alex, Emma, and Parker all took a sip. The other three didn't surprise me, but Parker did. Is he drinking for a past crush or his current crush? I was curious, maybe I can ask him later, I thought.

It was now my turn. I wasn't really sure what to ask, so I went with something simple. "Never have I ever smoked weed." Everyone in the room took a drink, except for Sophia and I.

"Really? All of you?" I questioned. I had expected some of them to drink, but not all of them. Scottie just smiled at me and told me it was because when they were freshmen, they were hanging out at his house and found his dad's stash and decided to smoke it together.

Let's just say, that wasn't the best idea. 9 teenagers high as kites in an empty house was never a good idea.

At the rate everyone was going, they were going to be drunker than my Uncle Sam at a family Christmas party within the next 10 minutes.

Allan and Emma went before it was finally Parker's turn. I was looking forward to what he was going to ask. I'm sure there's not a lot he hasn't done, this should be interesting.

"Never have I ever kissed someone of the same sex," he said.

I saw Andrew fidgeting in his spot. I wonder if he'll lie to everyone or not. After a few seconds of hesitation, he took a drink, earning him a few surprised looks from his friends. He wasn't the only one to drink, though. Arabella took a sip too.

I looked at her in surprise. She must've noticed my look, because she smirked at me. "What? It was a dare. Plus, I don't care about things like gender anyways," she whispered to  me across the room.

The game went on like that for a couple more turns, before people grew tired of it too. Half the people in this room were drunk, and the other half were tipsy, me being one of them.

There wasn't too much I had done, and majority of the stuff they said I had always been too chicken to try, but there were a few that I had done before. One of them being cheated on a test. I know, not the most exciting thing.

What can I say, I was a good girl.

Since everyone was worn out and didn't want to play games anymore, we all split up and migrated to different parts of the house.

I'm not sure where Sophia went, but Scottie took me to the dance floor. They were playing some fast-paced, base-booming pop song. The ground and walls were shaking from the speakers being cranked all the way up.

The crowd had thinned out some, but there was still a lot of people here, jumping up and down to the beat. Right as we got onto the floor, the song changed to a little slower one, and all the girls grabbed the nearest guy to them and began dancing on them.

Scottie smiled at me as he placed my arms around his neck and we began to sway to the beat. The song wasn't a slow song, but I didn't want to get too wild. That thought went out the window the longer we danced.

The alcohol was definitely kicking in now, because something possessed my body and I began to move my hips to the beat, against Scottie's hips.

I heard him groan a little and pull me closer to him. Since he clearly liked it, I kept doing it. I leaned forward a little bit so I could press into him a little more, causing him to flip me around and crash his lips onto mine.

This kiss was more aggressive than our first, but I didn't mind it. Our breaths mingled together, the taste of generic beer and a hint of vodka entering my mouth. I could feel him tugging on my bottom lip trying to gain access to my mouth, which I granted.

This was getting pretty heated.

I gripped his hair with my hands, tugging slightly. That earned a low moan from him. I smirked against his mouth. Scottie then made his way down to my neck, sucking on the sweet spot where my neck and collar bone met.

I held in a moan, not wanting to draw more attention to us. We were already making out in a crowded dance floor, and I didn't want any more attention on me. I opened my eyes as Scottie trailed kisses from my collarbone to just below my ear, when my eyes connected with Parker's.

He was staring at me with venom in his eyes. The poor beer bottle in his hand was being gripped so hard it looked like it was going to shatter. When I made eye contact with Parker, I noticed that his eyes changed just a little. I was too far away to tell what it was, but I did see the anger that replaced it.

For some reason, he slammed his bottle onto a nearby table and stormed out of the room.

I closed my eyes again, trying to get back in the kiss, but the moment had been ruined. Slowly, I pushed Scottie away. I gave him a kiss on his cheek before turning to leave. "Where are you going?" he asked.

"I just have to go check on a friend. Don't worry, I'll be back soon."

I left the room and began searching the house for Parker. He did not look to be in a good state when he stormed out, and I didn't want anything to happen. He was drunk and angry (for a reason I have yet to find out) and if something happened, it would be on my hands.

The first place I checked was the kitchen, but he wasn't there. I searched everywhere on the first floor, but there was no sight of him, so I made my way up to the second floor.

I checked every single bedroom bathroom and office up there, and still nothing. Now I was starting to get worried. Where could he have gone?

A last ditch effort, I stormed outside, hoping to find him lounging near the pool somewhere. Luckily, I was right. Parker was sitting at the edge of the pool, dangling his feet in the water with a bottle of vodka in one hand.

"There you are!" I exclaimed. "I've been looking everywhere for you. I saw you storm out and wanted to make sure you were okay."

"Go away Anders," he mumbled, taking a long swig from the bottle. I could sense that he had gotten more drunk in the time I had spent looking for him.

"Not until you tell me what's wrong," I said, sitting down next to him.

I took off the shoes I was wearing and dipped my feet into the pool. The water was still pretty warm considering it was end of October.

"You wouldn't understand," he said.

"Try me, I'm sure I will." I wanted to know what was wrong, he looked really pained right now.

"Trust me, you won't."

"But what if I do?" I pressed further.

Suddenly, he stood up, wobbling a little. "You won't understand!" he shouted at me.

Woah, that's the first time he's ever gotten this angry at me. I know we used to argue a lot and make each other angry, but this anger was different. This anger was masking a broken boy.

"Why won't I understand?" I yelled back.

"You really don't get it do you?" he laughed, no hints of humor in his voice, finishing off the last of the bottle. I took it from him and threw it in a nearby trash can, just in case he tried to damage something with it.

"Get what Parker? Will you please just tell me what's going on?" I pleaded with him. It was really scary to seem him like this. He looked like he was at his breaking point. His eyes were shining with pain.

"You don't get how much pain I'm in every single day. Everyday, I'm forced to watch my best friend and the girl I love acting all lovey-dovey with each other, while I'm forced to sit back and watch." His voice broke, and he finally dropped the angry façade.

The girl he loves and his best friend? But, Scottie's his best friend. Then, that must mean the girl he's talking about is me.

"What?" I whispered, still confused, and scared for his answer.

"It pains me every time I see you smile at him, every time you look at him like he's the most precious thing in this world to you, every time you laugh at some dumb joke he made, it hurts me. It hurts so bad, and it hurts even more knowing you'll never be mine, knowing you'll never look at me the way you look at him." I could see the tears in his eyes and the desperate look on his face.

"Parker..." I trailed. It hurt to see him this messed up. I truly did care about him and seeing him on the verge of tears broke my heart.

"Do you even realize all the things he said and did with you were all my doing? I was the one who dropped off your jacket at your house all those weeks ago, I was the one who carried you to your bed at your birthday party. For God's sake, I was the one who was helping Scottie text you all those sweet messages."

"I was the one telling him what you like, what you dislike, how to make you happy. Every single time I did that, it was like another stab to my heart, but I couldn't say anything. I didn't want to be that guy that came between his best friend and his girlfriend."

I had no idea what to say. What are you supposed to say when someone just poured their heart out to you? I wanted to help him feel better, but I don't think there's anything I can do.

"How come you never told me any of this? When did this even start? I thought you hated me." Parker scoffed at me and let out an exasperated laugh.

"I don't even know," he continued to laugh, the pain clear on his face. "All I know is that one day I hated you, and the next I was falling harder than I ever imagined possible. It took me by complete surprise. Once I realized I loved you, I wanted to tell you, I wanted to shout it out to the entire world. I actually ran to you the second I realized, but then I saw Scottie asking you to be his girlfriend and you guys kissing, and knew at that moment I had lost; I had lost you."

"It would've been wrong if I had told you, you had just gotten together with my best friend, the one who's had a crush on you for over 3 years. You just looked so happy with him, I knew I couldn't ruin it by telling you how I felt."

"Were you ever planning on telling me?" I asked.

"Not really. Not unless you somehow fell in love with me and broke up with Scottie, but that'll never happen," he sighed.

"When did this start?"

Parker shook his head. "I'm not sure, I think it was when we were dared to kiss each other all those months ago, but I'm not sure. All I know is that when I saw Scottie asking you to be his girlfriend, it shattered my heart."

"You've been holding in your feelings that long?" I asked, surprised by that. I never would've guessed he's liked me that long.

Parker only nodded his head.

"I'm so sorry Parker, I don't know what to say."

He shook his head again, stumbling towards the door to go back inside. "Don't be, you don't have to say anything. It was my fault for falling for someone who'll never love me the way I love them," he mumbled, stumbling inside the house.

I tried to stop him, but he disappeared in the crowd too quickly.

I ran inside after him, hoping to stop him. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to disappear, again.

I was in the middle of looking for him again when Scottie came running up to me. "Hey, where were you? I just saw Parker running out of the house with his keys in his hand, and he looked like he was about to cry."

"Shit, shit, shit," I exclaimed. I grabbed his hand and we ran out of the house together. "Blaze, what's wrong? What's going on?" Scottie asked me worriedly.

"Parker is drunk out of his mind and if we don't stop him something really bad could happen," I explained, running down to the end of the driveway to see if I could spot his car anywhere.

"Dammit," I mumbled.

"We're too late," I told Scottie, "his car is gone."

Parker, if you're hearing this, I hope where ever you are, you're safe.

-----

AHHH!!!! Parker finally confessed!

I'll admit, I've had this chapter written for months, because it was one of the first things I wrote for this story, I was just waiting for the right time to use it. I feel bad for Parker, but maybe things will turn around for him soon.

This chapter is almost a thousand words longer than my normal chapters, but I don't think you guys will mind since this is the chapter where secrets get revealed.

Do you guys think anything will happen to Parker?

Don't forget to vote and comment!
