Chapter 17: Boyfriend

Xander POV:

All the bridesmaids except the one I actually wanted to see came over to me right after the rehearsal. They introduced themselves and I responded politely but I kept watching the door for Addie. I barely listened to what they said, especially once the guy that escorted Addie down the aisle walked in with another groomsmen. I reminded myself it was nothing. He was just doing his groomsmen duty. Probably. Except the dress she was wearing would make anyone fall to their knees so how could I possibly believe that? She failed to mention the dress she was wearing was completely open in the back.

My eyes followed him until I smelled Addie approaching. There was a look of annoyance on her face and she came over quickly. I frowned, wondering who upset her. She surprised me when she got to me, wrapped an arm around my waist, then stood on her toes to press a kiss to my cheek.

"Hi girls, I see you've met my boyfriend," she said with a stiff smile.

Oh. Oh. I smirked. Apparently I wasn't the only one getting jealous.

"Boyfriend?" One repeated, looking over at me.

"Wholly and completely hers," I responded, taking her free hand and bringing it up to my lips. "You look absolutely stunning, my love," I said, pressing a kiss to the inside of her palm. She flushed and cleared her throat. I smirked and looked back at the girls. "Nice to meet you, ladies."

They smiled and walked away with dejected looks on their faces. She released her hold on me and stepped back, looking embarrassed and adorable in every possible way. I couldn't help it. I had to fuck with her.

"Xander is it?" Someone said before I could speak.

I turned my head to see the bride, holding out her hand. Now that I could see her face I remembered her from the club. Her hair color threw me off. I smiled and took her hand, bringing her knuckles to my lips.

"You must be Tasha," I said, kissing her hand. "I hear I have you to thank for this striking dress Addie has."

A smile and blush came across her face. "Yes you do and you're welcome," she said proudly. "Did I hear the girls right? Boyfriend?" Tasha asked, turning her gaze to Addie.

Addie seemed frozen in place as Tasha frowned at her. I snaked my arm around her waist and smiled.

"It's fairly new but I'm already crazy about her," I answered, dipping my head down to press a kiss to her head.

"Well, I can't blame you," Tasha said, grinning. "You've got a lot of explaining to do," she said to Addie with a frown before addressing me. "I guess I'll see you at the wedding tomorrow then."

"No," Addie said quickly. Tasha looked at her with a frown and Addie took a minute to compose herself. "I just mean, I didn't tell you soon enough so you don't have a place for him."

"Oh please, it's not that kind of wedding," Tasha said, waving her hand dismissively. "There will be plenty of room. Now let's head to the restaurant. I'm starving. You're riding with Xander I assume?"

Addie nodded and Tasha grinned again, giving me a wave before walking out the door. Addie barely gave me a glance before pulling away and heading out the door. I caught up to her easily, taking stride next to her.

"Boyfriend, huh?" I teased.

"It's nothing, I just thought about what you said and it made sense," she clipped. "Get that smug smile off your face."

"Oh, Adira," I chuckled, grabbing hold of her hand to stop her.

She turned towards me and I lifted my hand to her hair, running my fingers through it.

"Feeling possessive are we?" I said, smirking.

Her face turned bright red and she crossed her arms. "No. Of course not. That's ridiculous. I barely know you," she said, shaking her head but looking confused.

"Don't worry," I said, stepping closer and wrapped my hand around her back, running my finger along the edge of her open-back dress. "I like it. I like it a lot. And I'm very possessive of you, too. Now that I'm your boyfriend I guess we'll have to sell it," I said, bringing my hand up to her chin, tilting her head up towards me. "Won't we?"

I pressed a kiss to the corner of her mouth and she breathed out unevenly, her hands landing on my arms. I kept my arm around her waist and stepped back enough to lead her towards my car. I couldn't keep the smile off my face because she just gave me a good excuse to touch her for the rest of the night.

The drive there was quiet. Her hands were balled into fists and I could smell her arousal again. I had to focus on driving while smelling that and it wasn't easy. I moved my hand over to hers and opened up her fist.

"You're going to make your wrist hurt if you tense your hand like that all night," I said.

She relaxed her hand, nodding in agreement but not saying anything. We arrived downtown and parked in a structure. I got out of the car before Addie even had her seatbelt off and circled around to open her door. I offered my hand and she seemed surprised but took it. I kept hold of her hand and she looked at me curiously.

"Boyfriend, remember?" I said, grinning.

She rolled her eyes but kept her hand in mine as we joined the group and walked over to the restaurant. I discovered by listening in on the others that we were headed to the restaurant at the top of the space needle.

We made our way downtown and I was content having Addie's hand in mine until I smelled them. Vamps. I sent out a link, my hand tightening on hers.

Tell me someone has eyes on them

Addie looked up at me curiously and I smiled down at her, moving to wrap my hand around her waist, pulling her closer to me.

We do. They're out in the open though. We can't do much except watch, Beth answered.

"Is something wrong?" Addie asked.

She looked at me, eyes full of concern and I just couldn't tell her. She'd been through so much shit the last few days, way too much to keep piling it on. I was amazed she was holding up as well as she was, I wasn't about to add to all of that.

I smiled and tightened my hold on her waist as I leaned down close to her ear. "No," I whispered. "But we just told everyone we're in a new relationship and every new relationship has a honeymoon phase where the couple just can't keep their hands to themselves. It'll never be believable if we don't touch."

"Not every relationship has the honeymoon phase," she scoffed, rolling her eyes.

"Then you've been in the wrong kind of relationships."

She glared at me but didn't pull away so I kept her close as we approached the building. I kept her closer in the elevator, for once thankful that I was stuck in a crowded elevator because I had her back pulled flush against my chest and my hands on her hips. I almost wished the ride was longer.

We reached the top and were led to a long table. I pulled a chair out for Addie near the end, in case we needed to leave quickly. She sat down and I pulled the seat next to her, moving my chair closer and draping my arm over the back of her chair.

She instantly fell into conversation with the woman next to her who I learned was Tasha's mom. The familiarity was obvious, Tasha's mother talked to Addie in a very motherly tone. It made me wonder how long they'd been friends. At a lull in the conversation I leaned in close to her.

"How long have you been friends?" I asked.

My proximity startled her and I was happy to see, made her flustered. She turned her head just slightly towards me, her eyes darting down to my lips. "About ten years. We met in high school."

I nodded and couldn't help the smile as she quickly took a drink of the margarita she'd ordered before stabbing into her food. I wanted to tease her more but the elevator dinged and I smelled them. My head jerked towards the elevator. Two female vamps entered the room, moving behind a wall in a different section of the restaurant.

Where are you? I linked

It was insane they were up here and my Deltas weren't.

We're right behind them, Katie answered.

Just then, the second elevator dinged and Beth and Katie stepped in. They made eye contact with me briefly before they split up. Beth went behind the wall and Katie made her way over to the bathroom. Good.

Nick, you have access to the security here? I asked.

Yes, Alpha. Just watched Katie walk into the bathroom.

I exhaled slowly because we had it handled as much as we could. There was no need to panic. The vampires could only do so much with humans around.

"I have to use the restroom," Addie said, scooting her chair back.

Both of you to the bathroom, now. Addie's coming in, I ordered Beth and Katie.

I at least didn't need to worry about giving Addie a fake smile because she hurried away from me. Normally it would've been cute. Right now, I was just worried. Addie disappeared around the corner with Beth coming in behind her. Behind Beth, the two vamps followed. I rose from the table.

"Excuse me," I said to the table, following after them.

Nick, kill any cameras showing the hallway by the bathrooms, I linked.

I rounded the corner before they made it into the bathroom. One had a grip on the handle but they both paused when I approached, extracting their fangs the closer I got and heading towards me, away from the bathroom. Beth stepped out of the bathroom and lunged forward, stabbing a stake through the back of one. It distracted the other and I used that to snap the arm off a bench and lunge it into the other's chest.

She fell to the ground and I glanced around to make sure no one was there. I stepped back and checked myself to make sure there was no blood. There wasn't. I was used to killing cleanly.

There's a supply closet in that hallway. No cameras in it, Nick linked us.

Beth and I looked up and down the hallway but saw nothing. There were decorative curtains lining the hallway so I went down pulling them back until I found a door. I opened the door and glanced inside but there was no one. I stepped out and nodded to Beth who dragged the first body in quickly.

Luna's about to come out, Katie warned.

Beth quickly grabbed the second body and dragged it in the room. I pulled the door closed right as Addie stepped out. She looked over at me suspiciously.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"Just checking on you," I answered, striding over to her and offering my arm.

"You don't need to follow me around. What's going to happen up here?" She asked, accepting my arm.

Oh, if only she knew.

"Possessive, remember? Don't tell me you already forgot what it feels like," I teased.

She tensed and huffed, opting out of responding to me as we walked back out into the restaurant. I glanced back down the hallway and saw Katie rolling up the rug that now had blood on it. We rounded the corner as she went into the supply closet with it.

Kick the cameras back on, I said to Nick but letting Katie and Beth in as well so they'd know. Leaving the cameras off too long would make security guards suspicious. This should just seem like a glitch to them.

Yes, Alpha.

We returned to the table and sat down, continuing our meal. Addie started conversation with another bridesmaid and I used her distractedness as an opportunity to link Felipe.

We're going to need help with a cleanup. Probably more than just you.

Yes, Alpha.

I sat back in my seat and closed my eyes briefly. It was going to be a long night.
