Chapter 21b - Caleb's POV

As soon as my beautiful blonde mate had entered the little cottage she lived in - for now, added my annoying wolf -, I started pacing around the small clearing in front of her house. I was so nervous about meeting her son, because I had no idea how I was going to react. When I found out she had a son, I got so upset, nearly losing control of my wolf. I had been so afraid to hurt her, but thankfully, I'd only hit a tree. But if I'd nearly hurt her, wouldn't her son be in more danger? The thought of her pup, growing in her belly, fathered by a man other than me. I was jealous. Jealous of an innocent kid. How pathetic was that.

I needed to get over it, for her.. I'd been waiting for her for so long and now she was finally here, I wasn't going to mess that up. To be honest, I could barely contain my happiness around her. Going full blown with my emotions would only scare her off. Meeting her had been so divine, but it was hard to understand how she didn't recognize me for who I was.

I thought back to seeing her for the first time. How her eyes were brimmed with unshed tears as I approached her, those beautiful blue eyes, and such an innocent face. A lot younger than I was, but that didn't matter, I already loved her. I just wanted to hurt whoever made her cry, until I remembered how she had been hugging my beta and his brother and put two and two together. This was their niece, Cassiopeia. I remembered Keith telling me about her a few times. How she was the daughter of his brother and how he had failed to protect her. I couldn't remember how he had failed her though.

Her defying me, denying our mate bond, that had been hard. Waiting for my mate for fifteen years and then have her deny me, it had been a lot. But of course, now I understood why.

Touching her for the first time and feeling the burst of sparks run through my fingertips as they brushed against her cheek, like electric currents coursing through my veins instead of blood. Divine. But she couldn't feel them. I had never heard of a case like this before, but I was determined to find out what caused it. Even if I died trying to fix it for her, I knew that my life had a purpose now.

Convincing her to give me a chance to win her heart was hard. I had little to no experience with women and how they liked to be treated, even if my Mom tried so hard to prepare me for my mate. I'd hurt her, said the wrong things, all when I was trying to make her feel better. I felt like such a disappointment. Especially when I told her I'd been with girls too. Goddess that had been a really stupid thing of me to say.

Especially since it wasn't true. I hadn't been with girls. I had been with one woman. One mistake of not waiting for my mate and I had been battering myself up over it ever since that night. It had been at one of the parties in the pack house. I'd let my friends convince me to get wasted and let go of the reins for once until I bumped into her. I couldn't even remember her face after all those years, but the feel of her body on mine was still something that haunted me in my sleep. It had felt too good. It hadn't been worth my first time though, that was something I had wanted to save for my mate, for Cassie, but I'd failed her. So when she was feeling so down about not being a virgin, I'd tried to make it better, by telling her that I wasn't either, but instead, I had made it worse, by giving off the impression that I was a player.

I was interrupted from my heavy pacing around the clearing when I heard the front door open again. Immediately I stopped walking and looked towards the porch, bracing myself for what was going to happen. I waited for the unfamiliar smell to invade my nose, but it didn't come. Had she changed her mind? I waited for Luke and Will to open he space between them so I could look at her to see why she had, until it all came crashing down.

A fourth smell joined the mix after all, but it wasn't the unfamiliar smell I had been trying to warn my wolf about. Processing what was happening went a little slower for my human mind, until my wolf began howling, making things clear for my clouded mind.

'Pup, pup, pup, pup, pup. Mine!'

I was so confused that I felt the control slipping and a roar escaped my throat, although my voice didn't sound like mine at all.

"MINEEEEEE."

I felt this chapter was needed, as I couldn't give up certain information that was needed to understand Caleb & Cassie better.

I won't make a habit out of it. You can request certain chapters if you feel like you want to read them out of Caleb's POV, but I won't switch pov's for the storyline.

Well, I hope you like it, and please comment or vote if you do <3
