Chapter 3

A week and a half flew by just in time for Ginny's Eleventh birthday. He felt a little guilty at not having anything to give her even if Mrs. Weasley reassured him he couldn't have possibly known.

Truth is, he didn't only feel guilty about that birthday. He felt guilty because of the other birthdays in her second, third and fourth year. Not only that but it seems that, whatever the occasion, Ginny always seemed to have something for him. His birthdays, during Christmas, Valentines, occasionally Easter and even when he was confined to the hospital wing. Right after breakfast, she even gave him chocolates and candies for his birthday and it was only hours after they appeared in this time!

His stomach churned, and not in the good way. She always appeared to support him while he hasn't given her any gifts the past three years. He vowed to do better than Christmas cards that winter.

But right now, he knew what he'd do for her. Scribbling furiously on a peice of parchment, he asked Hedwig to come over to him so he would be able to tie the note to her leg to bring to Flourish and Blots. Ginny is no Hermione, she isnt even a book worm, but he knew she was a sucker of romance novels. How he knew that, he didn't know. He supposed Hermione must have let it slip some point.

Grinning proudly, he desended the stairs and walked into the kitchen. Scents of blueberry pancakes luring him in.

Mr. and Mrs. Weasley spotted him and bade him a good morning, greeting him as warmly as always.

He sat down next to a rapidly blinking Fred and smiled when he heard light footsteps.

Ginny popped in the kitchen. Rather than having her usual bed-hair, she combed it and braided it to cascade down her right shoulder. She looked more awake than anyone at the house. Everyone stood to greet her and give her a hug with Harry's being the longest. Harry still held her in his arms when the back door burst open.

They made no move to split until someone cleared their throat rather loudly, startling both of them out of their reveries. They both looked at ground and drew their hands at their sides, blushing furiously. Only then did she notice their guests.

Her eyes blazed and with still pink cheeks, she ran over to the trio at the door. There stood Bill, Charlie and Tonks.

Harry was still a little gobsmacked to see Tonks there. He knew that she and Charlie dated at some point, but he didn't know she was this close with the Weasleys.

"Hey there Firefly! Happy Birthday!" greeted Bill as he passed her over to Charlie.

"Yeah Spitfire, how old are you now? Eight?" teased Charlie who in turn got slapped by Tonks before stealing a hug from Ginny.

"Happy Birthday Ginerva!"

Ginny laughed merrily, "Thanks guys. Thank you Nymphadora."

Tonks growled jokingly and snuck a glance at Harry. She waved at him. Confused, he waved back.

"Not that I'm unhappy with the three of you being here but what are you doing here?" she asked the three of them, as they greeted her other brothers and parents.

"Gringotts business, they detected some rather powerful magic somewhere near Devon and brought me on the case seeing I used to live here. Charlie's gotten a job in the new british dragon reserve to stay closer to home. Tonks say she 'misses you all' but I feel like she only missed Ginny."

Tonks glared at Bill over Ron's shoulder, whom she was still hugging. "I do not! I missed all of you! Even Percy!"

Percy shook his head and mumbled something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like 'I suppose I missed you too'.

Charlie shook his head at his family and glanced at the only head with a black top seeing as Tonks morphed her head red for today. "So Gin, you going to introduce us to your new friend?"

Ginny squeaked and grabbed Harry's shoulders from behind, dragging him closer to the trio.

"Okay guys this is Ron's best friend and my friend Harry, Harry Potter." she introduced, trying not to laugh at their faces. "I don't appreciate your innuendo Charlie."

"Harry, the one with the dragon tooth earing is Bill, he works in Egypt. The plain boring one is Charlie and he works with dragons in Romania. That normal girl over there is Nymphadora Tonks."

Tonks glowered, "Don't call me by my first name if you don't want to die a painful death."

Harry snuck a glance at Ron. They both snorted at the reference.

"I guess I'd be offended with you calling me normal if you didn't use air quotes but anyways i'm an metamorphagus." Tonks continued. She demonstrated her skills by changing her hair color, body shape and height in rapid succession.

Charlie and Ginny both pretended to be amazed and clapped wildly while Tonks bowed.

Remembering what the oldest Weasley son said a few minutes earlier, his eyes went wide.

He snuck over to where Ginny stood, chatting animatedly with Bill. "Um..'scuse me Gin? Can I talk to you for a second in private?"

Ginny looked at her eldest brother who gave a slight nod. He grinned cheekily, "Hands where I can see them, Potter, and don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

Horrified, Harry felt his cheeks warm and Ginny was no better.

Mrs. Weasley most likely heard the last comment and bustled over. "William! Stop terrorizing your sister and the poor lad! It's alright Harry, dear, go ahead."

Reaching a secluded corner of the living room, Harry discretely casted a silencing charm and colapsed on the ground.

"Gin? Do you have any what your brother said could mean? He said they detected magic somewhere in Devon. Seeing as he arived today, that was probably when I passed out in the car when your brothers broke me out."

Ginny thought for a moment. "I suppose your right Harry," she said but then with optimism, "but remember what I said? They only detect the location not the person. So they have no way of tracing anything back to you."

Harry sighed. "If you say so, right now, I trust your judgement more than my own." He brightened after, "That reminds me, your present should be on your bed before 7 tonight."

She looked at him exasperatedly but with adoration all the same, "Harry, you didn't need to get me anything for my birthday!" she then shook her head, "I barely even gave you anything for yours!"

He looked back at her with an expression that of someone who grew five more heads. "'Barely?!' Ginny are you barmy?! You gave me chocolates and candies for mine an it was barely hours after we 'arrived' here!"

Ginny looked at the floor, suddenly finding the details on the wooden boards a lot more interesting while she feels her cheeks warm. "It's just sweets.." she muttered under her breath but Harry heard it all the same.

Harry looked at her oddly but his gaze softened. "It's not 'just' sweets. It's the thought that counts. In 'the other time' for my twelfth birthday you gave me chocolates too and you barely knew me! Then, there was Christmas when you gave me the scarf and I didn't give you anything at all then, there was Valentines day with the poem I actually found flattering then, when I was hit by the rogue bludger you sent me chocolates, then, Easter." He paused to breath, "PLUS! All the other events until those chocolate eggs you and your mum made for me in fifth year. Oh, don't you deny that you helped make my egg. I've long known how your desserts taste like!"

Ginny looked down a bit embarrassed, she didn't know he remembered all that much less how her desserts taste like.

Harry looked mildy embarrassed as well, mostly because of the last statement but his expression stayed firm. "And I never thanked you for any of them." he whispered.

Ginny shook her head and took his face in her hands even infront of her family. "You don't need to thank me Harry," she silenced him with a glare when she sensed he was about to interupt. "seeing you happy is the best thank you I could ask for."

Harry cocked his head to the right, even if it's still in her hands, and stared questioningly at her. "Why?"

She patted his cheeks one last time and withdrew them to her sides. "Because, Harry, everyone deserves to be happy. Merlin knows how much you deserve happiness, it's the least I could do."

He smiled a her adoringly, unknowingly. Watching her march over to her brother, whilst taking down the silencing charms, he has realized how much light she brings to his, dark, depressing self that is quickly diminishing.
