(OLD) Chapter 6 - Thicket
Hello again everyone! Blizzard IceDragon back here!
I told you this story is not discontinued!
I want to address that in the last chapter I said I didn't want to reveal my Scratch account, but I'm over that. If you don't know already my Scratch account is IceStorm_Animations, password is nothing.
Ha! I'm never giving any of you goons my password! HA!
AHEM.
As I was saying, I've come off from my animating break a little to tell you some news.
If you haven't read my new story Fallen Star: An Undertale AU and you are interested, go check it out! Just go to my profile and search for it, it shouldn't be too far from the top! Be careful though, it does contain spoilers for Undertale and all of its routes.
And since I don't have much else to say for now, here's the chapter!
Glacier asked me a lot of questions about my father and mother, to which I answered... most of them. My father's old friend was very accepting however, and told me it was okay if I didn't answer all his questions, as long as I answered enough. For which he never gave me an exact number for "enough."
But that was fine. I finally got to help out at the East Rock, which was what these animals apparently called the huge rock jutting out outwards toward the east. Although most of the animals stared at me whenever I walked by or even just got within their range of sight. Which I was used to, of course.
I learned more about Starflake and Clover from those animals who were willing to talk to me, mostly from Shade, Jay, Shock, and Owlet.
"Oh, Clover?" Shock told me. "He's cool."
"He's kinda annoying sometimes," Owlet continued. "But he's fun to play with!"
"He mostly spends time with Shock and I, but when he does hang out with Jay and Owlet, Clover always finds some way to make them laugh," Shade replied calmly. Then he snickered. "And it works on me and Shock too, somehow. His humor rubs off on us easily."
When I asked Starflake about her brother, she said, "Clover's annoying when he's alone and around me. And especially around Shade and Shock." Then she had paused, looking thoughtful. "But when he's not annoying, he just seems like a different person. Like he cares." She looked back at me and blinked. "It's like he's got two different personalities." A black-tipped ear twitched as her gaze shifted back to the ground. "He's weird."
"Like you!" Clover had yelled from across the clearing, prompting the white-furred molly to turn in her brother's direction and stick out her tongue, squinting her eyes shut.
They were all interesting in some way. I went to ask Clover's friends about Starflake next, and all they said was that she was weird. And that she was sort of the leader of the group.
"She's our 'Leader of the Forest,'" Shock exclaimed, sitting up straight with his ears perked up, as if he was the leader.
"If something goes wrong between us, she's the one to fix it up," Shade added, flicking a gray striped ear.
"She's awesome!" Jay chirped, bouncing up and down.
"Hey, that was what I was going to say," Owlet whined. But she still turned and stared at me with her small, bright amber eyes, a spark of defiance glinting in them. "If anyone can help us get out of here, it's Starflake."
Out of the corner of my eye I saw the subject in question turn towards us, and I averted my gaze from Owlet to look in that direction. Starflake turned away and headed in a different direction the second our gazes locked. I awkwardly turned back to Clover's friends and pretended not to notice.
As they babbled on about their side of the forest and stuff like that, with Clover finding some way to bring up funny moments they collectively remembered, I zoned out of the conversation. Wow. Starflake's a leader. Then I remembered her reaction to me turning around to look at her.
"How good is Starflake's hearing, exactly?" I asked Clover. "Sorry if I'm asking so much."
Clover shrugged. "Her hearing's better than mine, for one thing."
"That's because you can't listen, dummy," Shock remarked.
"And neither can you, Shock." Shade cracked a grin and earned himself a paw swipe from the yellow tom.
"Her ears are rather perceptive," a voice added. I turned around and saw a fire-orange molly padding towards us. She had an interesting pattern of yellowish spots under her eyes. A bright mark that resembled a flame was emblazoned on her left cheek. I recognized this cat as Fiery, Starflake's best friend. "It's impressive. She can hear - and sense, in general - things that none of us can."
Her green eyes studied me with an expression between concern and suspicion that I didn't recognize. "She's aware of a lot of things. She just doesn't outwardly show that she does often." Kinda sounds like me, I thought to myself. But everyone likes her. No one likes me.
I swallowed my inner thoughts down my throat and nodded. The orange molly swiftly padded away in Starflake's direction, her tail smoothly flicking past me.
I turned back to Shade, who blinked at me and started talking. "You know, it's actually rather funny that I knew Fiery before Starflake did. But once those two figured out that the other existed, they just clicked together. I dunno what it is, but I think it's the same force that brought me, Clover, and Shock together." The soot-colored tom shrugged. "They haven't been far from each other since. And they've grown more like one another, too, since they were total opposites before. The forest calls them 'fire and ice.'"
"I don't really get what that means," I replied.
"Well, me neither," Shade answered. "If anything I bet that Starflake knows. Maybe you can ask her."
"I'm sure she's as dumb as a rock," Clover declared, squashing Shade's face with one white paw. "She's weird."
"Just because she's weird doesn't mean she's dumb," I replied, blinking in confusion. There was something to be said about Clover's logic of how the world worked.
After some more small talk with Shade's friends, I headed to where Glacier was discussing with Dark, Stella, and Marble. At their paws was a small pile of prey.
"Alright. I'll see what we can do. Torrent should hopefully come back with more prey," he was saying as Thicket walked up. Glacier nodded. "Thank you. And go tell Starflake about this while you're at it." The three nodded back and walked in my direction.
"You're lucky Starflake actually tolerates you," Dark murmured in my ear, making me a little uncomfortable. Marble gave me a concerned look before nudging Dark with her paw. Stella didn't seem to notice.
