Chapter 4
The brown haired man wondered alone on the half desolated area, as his eyes stared around profusely to find what he was looking for. The wind messed his curly brown hair up, and he somehow kept trying to fix it with his hand as he walked . His senses were tingling. He knew there was something strange around here somewhere, he felt it, and that was what he was looking for right now. The source of this weird feeling.
The curly hair was a total mess now. With his all perfect nose and brown curly hair, it would be almost impossible for anyone to recognize him as a Korean. But that was not the problem for him. If he had actually cared about what others would think about him, he would not be here now. He left everything because of that reason, he didn't want to care about others opinion.
But he was annoyed and What annoyed him was, he had been rounding the same area for the past three hours, yet let alone noticing something strange, he had not even seen a single human being around here. He was starting to doubt his instinct now. It was tiring for him.
He leaned against a half broken wall of an old house, to give his tired legs a bit of rest. And before he realized, the legs were not in standing position anymore, he was already sitting while leaning his back on the wall. And maybe if he waited a bit more, his back won't be leaning on the wall either, he would most probably be lying on the road by then. His eyes were already closed, ready to give up .
The entrance door of a studio type house, opened slightly. The squeaky weird sound that the door made when someone pushed it from behind, would manage to urk anyone around it.
But thanks to the squeaky sound of opening door from a bit far away, his sense again started to tingle. And this time the feelings were stronger than ever.
He jumped off at the sight of a tanned man coming out from behind the door. And without any doubt, the man that came out was the very very reason that had made him wonder around in that area for the past three hours. A smile appeared on his face as he ran to that man.
He stopped 4steps away from the man, on an attempt to block his way, who was walking while looking behind his back, talking with..... Nothing.
The man thought that the tanned man would stop on his way after seeing him. But he was wrong, the man did not stop, in fact he did not even see him and as a result, they bumped into each other.
The curly haired man stabled his position first. The tanned man open his mouth a crack to utter something but not giving him the opportunity, the curly haired guy raised his hand, pointing at Hakyeon, with fire burning in his eyes, for no reason at all, took a deep breath before finally speaking out what he wanted to say to him, for the last three hours, for what he had been searching for him.
"You are possessed."
Hakyeon and Leo both looked at the grinning face of the man before them.
"What?!" Hakyeon spoke out, as he pointed at his own face with his left index.
Well that proves that he AIN'T a foreigner.
"Me? Possessed?"
The curly haired man nodded hard.
"By what?"
"A strong ghost"
Hakyeon made a squeal, or so to say a sound that you can hear when someone tries to hold his laugh in. And it was the word "Strong" that made him make that sound.
Leo's eyebrows twitched as he figured out the reason for Hakyeon's laugh, and he just narrowed his eyes at Hakyeon's back.
"I can help you to get rid of that ghost! It would be expensive though," the man said as he crossed his arms.
"Wow, another of your friends?" Leo said in a mocking tone.
Hakyeon just shook his head a bit,
"sorry, I think you are mistaken, "
He just shoulder past him.
The curly haired man stood there as the man he had been searching for so long, walked past him. He started to gather words in his head to say something to the leaving man, so he would be convinced.
He whirled around and started running quickly to face Hakyeon. And soon enough, he was again standing before Hakyeon, again, face to face.
" okay, it's not a strong ghost! I lied so it won't be expensive. Just Let me help! "
Leo felt his eyebrows twitching again, and this time it was not because of Hakyeon. He really wanted to punch someone this time.
N just grabbed the curly haired man's shoulder and shoved him aside as he again started to walk.
The curly haired man stood there frozen as his only one chance of having a proper meal today, left him behind, rejected. He lost all the energy in his legs, and he just sat down on the road, knees upto his chest, and before he himself knew it, he was already sobbing loudly.
"Why does nobody believes me!" He shouted.
Hakyeon stopped on his track.
"My parents didn't believe me, my friends didn't believe me, my school didn't believe me. And now that I have none, I am trying to help others but they don't believe me either. Why is the world like this?"
Hakyeon sighed heavily. Leo stared at the sobbing figure behind them, trying to figure out if that was real or not.
"Isn't he just pulling up an..... Hey!" Before Leo could even finish his sentence, he saw Hakyeon, already walking at his direction. He stopped before the crying figure.
"Get up!", Hakyeon demanded. But there was no sign of the other man to make any movement, rather he started to sob even harder.
Hakyeon patted on the curly haired man's head lightly.
"It's okay, don't cry, " Hakyeon said in a comforting tone. The sobbing stopped a bit.
The man looked up a little, still sobbing. His face was red and his eyes were puffy. He slowly stood up,wiping his tears with the back of his hands.
"So... do.. you believe me?" his words could hardly be understood amongst the cries and sniffles by him.
Hakyeon didn't reply to him. Rather he just wrapped his hands around him, pressing him tightly against his own body. Shocked by the sudden approach, the curly haired man just instantly stopped his sobbing and fixed his gaze on Hakyeon.
"You are so cute! Look at that red nose of yours, you look like a Rudolph!" Hakyeon said as he pressed him a little, sending him an ear to ear smile.
"What's your name?"
Ken shocked at his changed behavior, just decided to reply him anyway.
"They call me Ken. "
"They? Who?"
Ken didn't reply. Rather he just started at the ground.
Leo stared at the two men standing afar, talking to each other. Leo could hear all of their words. And he agreed with Hakyeon's word. Saying that the crying man didn't look adorable to him, would be a lie. He really did look adorable enough to pull his cheeks right now.
He is adorable... but not as you.......
.
.
Wait! Why did I even...
He didn't know why he had just compared those two. It wasn't as if they were competing for cuteness or anything, neither the man called Ken was showing him his cuteness on purpose, the man just looked adorable but yet he did it,he just compared those two and he dunno why he did that . He shook his head a little. Trying to get back to the main topic, to him which was this guy called Ken's proposal.
Ken let out a sigh before speaking again , eyes still fixed on the ground.
"So.... Do you accept my offer?"
Leo held his breath on this last question. Well it was not like he needed oxygen to breathe and live, but yet he did it. He was so curious to know Hakyeon's thought, though he rejected the man first time, but yet for some reason this time the question managed to made him curious.
I could never get that close to him.. Can I now?
Maybe because he didn't like the fact that Hakyeon was already so close to hom or maybe he was scared....
Scared that, Hakyeon might put the other man before him, scared that Hakyeon might accept the offer, scared that the other latter could actually not be bluffing and make him dissappear.....
Scared that his time on Earth was again over, scared that he will again vanish...
Scared for all the unnecessary thoughts that crossed his mind, the thoughts that he didn't know if they were real or just fear.
Hakyeon just tilted his head to that question, not really have a will to reply him. Ken looked up at him as he sobbed once more.
***
"Why are you buying grocery suddenly?"
Leo asked furiously as he followed Hakyeon around in the aisles of the grocery store for the last fifty eight minutes.
"I thought we talked about it before," Hakyeon said as he sorted down a few pieces of potatoes in his shopping cart.
when?
Leo glared at him. Hakyeon could feel that angry red aura around him. But he really didn't care about that, well he didn't want to care about it to be more precise.
Hakyeon pushed the cart.
"Next is chicken..." he mumbled.
His eyes wondered around, in order to find the meat section.
"Found it!"
Hakyeon pushed his cart through the aisles, passing through the raging Leo.
"He is a stranger!"
Leo stood before the cart, in an attempt to stop Hakyeon. Hakyeon wanted to pass right through the transparent figure of his , but he didn't, since Leo seemed really angry to him, and he might feel bad. So He stopped on his track.
"He isn't a stranger, his name is Ken." Hakyeon said as he clicked his nails against the handle of the cart.
"Plus he is my friend!"
Then again he is a ghost... do ghosts mind when someone pass through them?
Hakyeon said (and thought) as he pushed that cart, to pass right through him, .
He is even your friend now that you are letting him live with you? What about me then? Does my opinion mean anything? That's also my house.... Well since I am stuck with you so yeah, that house is also mine.... Not that there's anything good about that.. Just..
Waves of thoughts passed Leo's mind as he looked at Hakyeon slowly picking up the groceries and putting them down in the cart. Leo wanted to scold him, but then again he was in no place to do that either. He was no different from Ken. Both stranger, living with him.
"Hakyeon-ah... you're here?"
A female voice called out from across the aisle.
Hakyeon turned his face around a bit, to face the owner of the voice.
"Eunji... what are you doing here?"
Eunji walked up to Hakyeon after putting a package of pork ribs back into the meat section.
"I'm here to play football,"
she said as she raised her hand in a motion to hit Hakyeon. Hakyeon ducked a little, laughing at her answer.
"Its rare to see you buying meet! Earned some extra money this month or something?"
Eunji said as she took another package of pork belly in hand, eyes fixed on the price tag.
"Nah.... I'm not sure if I could even get my previous jobs back anymore or not.....It's for a guest.."
Hakyeon stared blankly at the meet packages, sorted out before him.
Eunji looked at Hakyeon's face. It was clear that he was tensed.
Eunji realized that she should not have talked about it, he just quit all his part time jobs to participate in a competition to gain a bit recognition, 2 of his previous bosses told him that he was making a mistake, and there would be no way they will take him back if he loses the competition without even going to Seoul for the main rounds and begs to return him the job, but he was determined that he would make it, he would go to Seoul no matter what. But....
Eunji let out a sigh.
Hakyeon took a package containing boneless chicken breast in his hand. He checked it in all possible way as he could, before leaving it where it was before.
"The price is really high, isn't it?"
It costs frigging 9 dollars ?! That's expensive?
Leo was really shocked at what seemed soo expensive to Hakyeon. As a celebrity he was, it was not that much of a problem for him to get anything he wanted to eat, unless it was a single Sunday containing gold that costed 1000USD, to him that seemed nothing but a waste of money. But yet, 9USD was a bit too impossible.
"Eunji-ah, can you lend me some money? Its for a guest! "
What guest? You just offered him to live with you..... forever.
Eunji offered him a smile, as she took a package containing pork belly and another one containing chicken breast in a hand, and other hand reached out to grab Hakyeon.
The increasement in Hakyeon's heart beat, when Eunji grabbed onto his hand, may not have been enough for Eunji to realize, but it was enough for Leo to feel or hear. And for his surprise, Leo was not happy about it, neither was he mad. He wanted to mock Hakyeon for it, but words won't come out of his mouth. His brain's word and his heart's word were not synchronizing.... ?
Maybe... maybe not. Who knows?
What's wrong with me? Is it really the after effect of being dead?
.........
"You like that girl?"
Leo finally let it out as he followed Hakyeon who was humming a song on the way back home, the sun was already setting, he wanted to hold the question in but... he couldn't.
Hakyeon could feel his face getting hot. He answered quickly to Leo's question,
"No way. Why would you sa... "
"heart beat.... I felt it"
Hakyeon became quiet. His silence was the answer to the other man's question.
They both walked quietly. Leo did not understand the reason of this silence. Neither did he know what to say next.
It was Hakyeon who decided to break the silence.
"It's not that I like her.... It sometimes happens that you feel something but you are not certain of what it is...and it is temporary....but you dunno if it really is or not......"
Hakyeon looked up at the sky... the clouds were all a bit reddish in color already.
"its like a dilemma... And I am not sure of what it is either right now... But I dont think I like her that way.." Hakyeon said these words in a cheerful tone.
Leo was surprised at how Hakyeon could say all those words so easily and freely but, how those words actually made sense to him. Maybe to others the words would mean nothing but to him it meant a lot. And after that......
.
.
.
After that, Hakyeon again just talked about cakes and Leo listened to him. This time, his brain managed to register every single words, and Leo... he just kept smiling slightly at each of Hakyeon's words. Not too sure if Hakyeon saw that or not.
